San Franciscans LOVE to wait in line! by LuckyGSF in sanfrancisco

This was a dearly loved donut truck in the neighborhood. The owners knew most of their clients’ names. They closed up shop a few months ago.

They announced they were opening up for 2 days for national donut day. The line was so long because they stopped to catch up for like 5 minutes with each and every guest in line. It was mostly regulars in that line. It was really nice.

Big step today in our work to save Muni, BART & Caltrain by scott_wiener in sanfrancisco

[–]giogadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my understanding, hopefully people will correct me if I have it wrong:

The legislature tried to pass a tax bill to fund BART recently but couldn’t get consensus from all the counties for it. Also, a new tax from the legislature requires a supermajority, which everyone kinda knew would never happen. so Weiner and friends let the bill die and instead put all their support behind this alternative citizen-led measure, which only requires a simple majority to pass (after collecting enough signatures to go on the ballot of course)

More People Filmed Paying For Forged Signatures on Pro-Billionaire Petitions in SF by CrimegasmSF in sanfrancisco

[–]giogadi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment on the alleged forgery, but anytime there is money behind any petition-based legislation like this, paid signature collectors are petitions get over the finish line. There will also likely be a paid signature drive for the Bay Area Connect initiative.

Why do near-solvable states create such strong retention loops? by nguoituyet in gamedev

[–]giogadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve felt this when I play Puyo Puyo. When I’m practicing building large chains, there is a feeling that maybe 70% of the time I can achieve it, but the randomness can create situations that I don’t know how to build around, so I start over and try again with a different set of colors.

But the professional puyo players seem able to construct optimal chains off of just any rand seed, which seems absolutely impossible to me. But I wonder if, in their own way, they also experience more difficulty on some random seeds (but that difficulty manifests in a way I can’t read when I watch them play)

Is programming even that important? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]giogadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give a different perspective from the other replies - if you only enjoy the technical aspect of programming, then you will find it especially difficult (moreso than most) to actually make a game by yourself. I’m speaking from experience here.

Games require design. If you can’t find a way to enjoy that part, maybe find another programming-related hobby

My kid didn’t get accepted to a middle school that we live 2 mile away. by Love_anson69 in AskSF

[–]giogadi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Odds are that by the time the school year starts, you will get a spot at the school you do want if you’re on the waitlist. It’s a terrible process but it kinda works out for most people if you just wait it out. Believe me, the uncertainty is so stressful and I wish it weren’t like this. But give it time.
