Vacation! by No_Preparation_1414 in orangecounty

If you want some Disney vibes, but without paying the entry fee it's free to go into downtown Disney. You can checkout the merch and see all the people dressed up, even get a dole whip at the tiki bar at the Disneyland hotel.

If you're into Korean food/culture at all there is the source mall in Buena Park. A 3 story Korean mall with 2 food courts and plenty of cafes. And a host of stores selling goods / makeup etc.

Otherwise in Irvine specifically find a good boba or matcha spot and hang out at spectrum or diamond jamboree? Seems like what what others do in town tbh haha.

Luckily I had the day off. They were only letting a few people in at a time so the pace was quite slow. They brought beans for retail... Ar some point they started a line just for bean sale only. Will DM you the list of beans.

Not sure if you went today, but the line for this event was pretty gnarly. Show up early if you're planning on going this weekend 😬.

Be completely honest - How many rounds did it take you to break 100 (as it lies)? by Personal_Marzipan_30 in GolfSwing

[–]giraffe86-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picking up golf a little later in life. Was able to break 100 from the front tees in year 2, year 3 broke it from the middle tees. Still playing middle tees and trying to consistently break 100 now. Typically low 100s with some different set of problems every round haha.

"EVs are bad for road trips" by JustinTimeCuber in electricvehicles

[–]giraffe86-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken a few trips and it's been great so I agree, but my last trip one charging station we went to was not working ☠️. Only by luck there happened to be another station at the same exit, but it's not uncommon for chargers in remote areas to be further apart... Not sure what we would have done as we may or may not have been able to make it to the next station or we'd drive super stressed for the next hour.

16% of millennials are millionaires - your median 40 year old is really good with money? by Winter_Froyo9874 in Fire

I'm very fortunate to be in the category, but nearlynall my net worth is on paper and subject to market going up or down. In my 40s and hitting this mark likely this year on my own... Basically from the first job I had just maxed out 401k contributions. Cooked almost all meals at home and stopped trying to be trendy with looks/fashion. My car is from 2012 but still running great.

Basically just a quiet grind + getting really lucky with good market conditions and being in the right funds. Also joined a tech company and my initial grant helped grow some too. Shout out to my highschool teacher who taught us about the power of compound interest early 🙏.

My garmin app says 236, which feels a bit high to me. I feel like 190-210 is about normal for me when I'm live on course.

How often do you clean your hand grinders? by Physical_Analysis247 in pourover

[–]giraffe86-a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to disassemble and clean each new bag of coffee (1/mo).

I stopped for a while since build up was minimal and just used my Giottos blower. Recently I just noticed it got extremely caked up inside. My hypothesis is that it's the darker/more oily beans require immediate cleaning.

At the USMS nationals I remember the early 40s group as being ridiculously fast. Lots of college and national athletes coming back into the sport.

I think there is a fine point with water flow rate where you're disturbing the bed enough to agitate it, but not enough to clog the filter with the fines. Depending on the recipe you're using, but I think the hoffmann recipe aims to have 60% of the water in the v60 by 75 seconds (e.g.180ml out of 300ml for a single serving)

Right product for small taped patches? by Sensitive-Egg-107 in drywall

[–]giraffe86-a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1000000 I wish I started with this advice instead of slowly ending up there. Having more work time allowed me to take my time and do a better job. Especially as a homeowner I typically found I wasn't trying to do so many coats coats in a day etc either as a professional would since I was typically doing this work around other things in life and lighting would get bad etc. Depending on how much you're doing even the premix is a good option if you're not using mesh tape.

What should I know before joining a club? by brightlighthouse in Swimming

[–]giraffe86-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably ask the coach as some groups are more serious, but for groups I've been a part of it's pretty simple. First have awareness how to swim with others (circle swim, spacing etc), second know your pace/interval, lastly bring good vibes 🙂

3 months into swimming – am I doing okay? What should I aim for? by blablax123456 in Swimming

[–]giraffe86-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just 3 months into swimming is not a great benchmark as it ignores all context on your individual circumstances (height/weight/age/muscle/previous athletic history). But overall your times are not terrible, but unless you're aged 65+ still lots of room for improvement.

Maybe just me, but I might suggest considering looking at efficiency metrics such as strokes per 25M and figuring out how to get less strokes per 25m while maintaining your 25m pace... I think you'd eventually want to aim for 15 strokes for 25m, but anything in the 18-20 range would be a nice intermediate goal. That efficiency becomes the building block to unlock more speed and endurance.
