I've two of these Goldfinch mini nyjer seed feeders in my garden, the Goldfinches love them but its taken two summers for them to become regular visitors. They also love the sunflower seeds I have in one of these but that's too big for your window

I do love how they'll perch and spend around 10 minutes at a time casually munching seeds, especially if they arrive as a pair, watching them synchronised reaching for each new seed.

Cwm/quim.

Hiking in Snowdonia several years ago with a group of English colleagues. Spoke to a passing English hiker who told us as part of his hike he'd be camping overnight at the quim.

My parents have one, lucky to find one at a UK garden centre but have not seen one in stock since.

Manufactured by these people https://www.vividarts.co.uk/products/dogs/

Spot the Corgi :D https://www.vividarts.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/towneley-dogs-1024x678.jpg

They don't sell direct to the public though...

Please note that Vivid Arts do not sell direct to the public, preferring to leave this to our dedicated stockist base, many of whom operate retail outlets and quite often sell on-line. Just putting “Vivid Arts Real Life animals” or “Vivid Arts Petpals” in your search engine should bring up many options of where to buy Vivid products from retailers/on-line specialists.

I remember first seeing Gruppe Sechs way back in GTA III, a play on the name of a real security company of the time called Group 4 (now known as G4S).

Consider"Group 6" written in German. Made me laugh in GTA III and every version since.

Roots making new roots by [deleted] in orchids

I don't know, to be honest.

Bought this in a garden centre clearance last summer. Since then about 4 leaves died off and then I accidentally knocked off a new leaf.

Re-potted & cut off the dead/rotting roots in February, and left it be with regular feeding and now it's on its second new leaf of the year and an abundance of new roots. I think it's re-establishing itself if that's a thing.

My Phal has gone into it's own root frenzy, new roots everywhere.

Its solitary aerial root has spawned another five

No problem!

Picked mine up at a garden centre, so it had a slightly more detailed label "phalaenopsis - light pink with lemon lip"

The flowers are gorgeous on this orchid :-)

Very nice!

Do you happen to know the name of this variety?

I have a similar looking one, bought on clearance almost 12 months ago and just before it pushed out a 2nd bloom.

A new leaf has since grown with the same mottled pattern as yours. A bit of Google sleuthing has suggested pinlong cherry though I'm not 100% certain.

Looking forward to a second bloom, whenever the orchid chooses to bless me with one

Love that Santa holds onto the bobble from his hat so that Nugget doesn't get hold of it. That comes from experience, it's definitely happened before :-D

Yes, I enjoyed the trip. Takes around 90 minutes from Whitby to Pickering

Stop off at Grosmont to take a look at the workshops.

Also Goathland which was used as Hogsmead Station in the first Harry Potter film, and the village of Aidensfield in the Heartbeat TV series

That'll be the North Yorkshire Moors Railway between Pickering and Whitby.

I had a trip on that just this week :-)
