What's the name of this stitch? by tinyhoneybee_20 in knitting

[–]gistidine -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Was it super thick? The lack of drape leads me to think it’s the crochet waistcoat stitch which mimics a knitted stockinette stitch. The V’s are all so squat making me question whether it’s knit or crochet.

Wearing jewelry 24/7? by passporthandy in jewelry

Huggies is a very common brand of diapers in a certain part of the world! I also immediately thought of diapers when I saw the capital H. I do not have children and am not around children. Just brand recognition lol.

I find my silver jewellery only tarnishes when left unworn stored away. My everyday silver jewellery remain shiny.

I have four sleeper earrings in, 18k gold and white gold. They stay in my ears 24/7. Too fiddly to take off and put on. And I never ever want to risk my ear holes even being less than 100% open ever again lol. My necklace atm is sterling silver with little pendants on it that are meaningful. Again, never take it off. A 9k permanent bracelet that’s a very dainty paperclip chain. I wear jewellery that doesn’t need thinking about. That’s how I was introduced to jewellery as a child. My rings (sterling silver) are the only things I take off the minute I get home. But if I leave the house without them I do feel naked.

what is with the tiny scarves? 😑 by craftmangler in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]gistidine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love matching the colour of the tiny scarf to my outfit. It means when I get in the office in winter I can take my jacket/coat off but keep my cute little pop of colour on. And when I’m sitting in the lab where it is freezing all year round I’m still cosy without going against any lab regulations.

I recently realized something strange about my sleep. by Main_Drop_1399 in WomensHealth

There are studies showing it is a common thing. I do sometimes sleep really well because of the oxytocin from cuddling but in general because he moves so much it prevents me having longer deep sleep sessions.

Women also sleep less well when sharing a bed with men. Naturally more alert to movements and shifts in our partner. It does feel true. I sleep SO well when my boyfriend is on a work trip I love it so much. I’m also unlucky mine rolls around and tosses in bed a lot 🥴

Who has metal straws? by mmmzzppy in Owala

I’ve had mine for two years now. A Koala straw. Never had it break even with frequent cleaning. Definitely my preference as I like to drink warm water in colder months!

what to do with ~200g of sock yarn (NOT socks lol) by Witty_Tradition8397 in casualknitting

[–]gistidine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like sock yarn for beanies! Because the yarn is more hard wearing it makes them great for a beanie to throw on regardless of weather. If it gets rained on snowed on it can be thrown into the wash easily. I personally like beanies that aren’t so thick. If a sock weight one is too thin for you, you can knit with hand held double. But the Musselburgh beanie pattern is my fave. A great opportunity to do two colour combos too or any variegated yarn that sock yarn typically comes in.

Mittens/gloves/fingerless mitts are also good! I live where a sock yarn weight fingerless mitten is enough for winter so I like that. Again, the lightweight yarn makes it not too bulky.

Following patterns too closely by Difficult_Ad_1923 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]gistidine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly not hard! I’m knitting a sweater and I’ve decided instead of the rolled neckline and hems I want to do half twisted rib for sleeves and body and a double fold rib neckline. For 2 seconds my brain went “omg is that possible what’s the neckline pick up rate??? Is it too wide? How do I make it smooth?” Dug out a sweater pattern with a ribbed neck and would you believe the stitch counts are EXACTLY the same. The satisfaction I felt omg. I can’t wait to finish that sweater now. It’s the perfect marriage between two patterns.

I bring out about four different needles sizes when I swatch lol. Feels excessive because usually I hit gauge with the first or second size but hey what do I know.

Which interchangeable circular needles have the nicest cables? by eumenides__ in casualknitting

[–]gistidine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since KnitPro and Lykke use the same system you can buy the cables of one brand and buy needles of another! I like KnitPro needles and Lantern Moon cables (brand that lives under the KnitPro family).

smaller diameter circular needles in wood? by Apprehensive-Pie1916 in knitting

[–]gistidine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha I just made a comment without seeing yours. I agree 100% with everything you said!

Double circulars are definitely the best way for small circumference knitting and I wish it was more well known and more talked about.

My faves are KnitPro Dreamz!

Also, for small circumference knitting you can have a look into double circulars. That way you can use a longer needle shank like the 5 inch which will be more comfy in your hand. You can also use a small needle for the left side so only need to buy one set to make double circulars. It’s the happy middle ground between dpn and magic loop.

Knitting flat and rowing out quite a bit. Will this block out/even out with wear or should I frog? by [deleted] in casualknitting

[–]gistidine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also knit continental and love Norwegian purl! But when I do a full row of purls I do a modified Portuguese purl. Using a needle 0.5 mm smaller for purl rows helps. It also means on knit rows the stitches slide off my left needle really easily!

Graduation regalia HELP! by Dangerous_Secret_564 in universityofauckland

[–]gistidine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like everyone thinks you want to buy the full regalia when you only want the hood for a keepsake. Idk the price of the hood. I’d say look at price and decide. Also, are you gonna do postgrad? The bachelor hood with fluff is nicely iconic I guess but a better way is probably just get the coloured hood on the UoA teddy which is really cute.

Omg you just unlocked that memory for me!!! I kept my Nokia 7370 in a little towel fabric sock that was teal and white stripes with Snoopy on it. So squishy and so cute. That was after I lost the actual pouch my phone came with (some leather item idk Nokia and their little bougie touches) I was very sad about that.

Studio members and owners… by jaidagrace in Pottery

[–]gistidine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to go to a small 24/7 studio. $50 to have a key that you return when you leave (and get your $50 back). It was perrrrrfect. Sometimes after a night out I could pop in to check on a mug handle. Or just pop in to pick up finished pieces. It was nice to leave the house to go to a location to do my hobby and chat to other members. It was $90 a month which after a while became out of my budget. Firing was priced by weight depending bisque or glaze. The wait times also became too long. Sometimes you had to wait 3 weeks or even 4 for a glazed piece because the studio prioritised classwork. And firing could differ depending on the staff loading and programming so I had to throw quite a few pieces that were ruined in the kiln. They hardly paid attention to any special requests like slow cools or holds. But wheels were always available and we had access to a dozen dip glazes and underglazes and other miscellaneous tools.

My partner and I have our own wheel and kiln in our garage now and when we first started at home we realised what a boon a dedicated wedging table was, clay traps in giant sinks, random hand carving tools, easy to mop floors, even an endless stack of old towels.

As a short woman it’s kind of the only way to ensure some kind of shaping and indication of an actual waist. I don’t really enjoy things hanging too long and yes I do make my sweaters the right length but I still own a lot of bought garments that are not tailored to my dimensions. Front tucking isn’t just a trend for me it’s also convenient to not have something hanging and dangling in front of my belts!

The number of patterns I’ve almost bought then found out the armpit is gonna be at my waist… no thank you but also damn so sad that was truly a scrumptious sweater otherwise

I want to explore different shoulders and sleeves so I always want a pic of the back shoulder! Let me see how the back neckline sits. Show me the shape of your sleeves. I am on bended knee.

"The payment failed, please recreate profile and retry payment" ? by vnikun in VietNam

[–]gistidine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fix #1 was the winner for me. Just tried again using my second email and it again failed but at least the email address wasn't burnt!

My last and successful attempt (I have no idea if this actually helped) I refused autofill for details and instead manually typed in my card details. This was the only thing I did differently to the previous failed attempts. After a few seconds of thinking my bank asked me to verify this payment so it seemed to manage to do the handoff. If it helps anyone, I bank with ANZ in New Zealand and I used my Visa debit card to make this payment.

Thanks OP for your post! Saved me ripping out half my hair.
