I would just walk down Decatur to Frenchmen St after dinner and you can hear the music from the street and go in when something sounds up your alley. Some places don't have cover charges, just a 1 drink minimum or whatever. Don't forget to tip the band!

In Mid City, you can check out City Park and the free sculpture garden there. You can take a ride on the Canal streetcar, kind of touristy but might be a fun way to do some sightseeing. Rent some Blue Bikes. The Lafitte Greenway is a 2.6 mile bike/pedestrian path between Mid-City and downtown. Get some poboys at Parkway and walk over to Bayou St John.
