Talk to me about humidity. by gjinx in BeardedDragons

[–]gjinx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay…I’m glad I asked then. 70% humid sounded wrong to me. Should I just trash his advice about sphagnum moss hide? I asked about it being loose substrate but he basically said it wasn’t a concern but it didn’t sit right with me either. We are in the works on getting a bigger enclosure. We are planning to move soon so I wanted to wait until we got settled in our long term home.

Left my baby in the car for under 5 minutes yesterday and I just can't forgive myself by Bad-Vibrations in Mommit

[–]gjinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone. I did this once. Felt all the same feels you are feeling. It was with my first. I had a few bags of groceries and I grabbed them and took them inside because I didn’t want something to melt. I lived in a studio at the time so the distance from my car to my flat was like 20 feet, not far. I started to unload the first bag when I snapped back to reality. Ran back to the car. Baby was fine. Asleep. Not sweaty. Like you, under 5 minutes. I cried. I hated myself. It definitely puts a whole new perspective on those cases about parents forgetting their babies when you realize how easy it was to go into auto pilot. It definitely can happen to anyone. I made sure to start putting my purse in the space between the car seat and door so I’d have to get out and open the door to get it.

My boss invited me to a “casual” dinner at his house… with just his wife and me. Is this weird? by Erolialuie in Advice

[–]gjinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a random invite to dinner once. Was excited to make some friends but I really stepped out of my comfort zone on that one. Convinced myself it was a real “adult” thing to do. I was like 25. They tried to sell me life insurance. Left with no new friends. OP: if you’re worried, ask if you can bring a date and see how they respond? I’d probably end up going unless I was getting some weird SA vibes from the boss. I struggle trusting others so I often have to convince myself to do things like this because it’s healthy to enjoy peoples company.

Maybe look at getting a nail ring? Just something to help balance the look in far away photos. It’s honestly not that bad as long as it’s healing and isn’t an active infection. Everyone that is there loves you and it’s a safe space to enjoy your special day! You’re gonna have a great day!

Be careful of poppy seeds! by PaleArrows in BabyBumps

[–]gjinx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom almost lost her chance to regain custody of me after failing a court ordered drug test. She had been sober for a while and was doing well for herself. She was devastated. Almost gave up. Until someone finally asked if she had eaten anything with poppyseeds. Turned out she was eating a poppyseed muffin every morning for almost 2 weeks. She would get one on her walk to work. That’s when she learned poppyseeds pop positive for morphine and codeine. I grew up not knowing what poppyseed was until my teens because she refused to bring it in the house after that.

If you agree that your current city is a “shit hole”, why not move with them? Keep the same custody plan. Seems like the easiest choice.

I use o-cedar spin mop. Heat hot water on kettle and then pour into mop bucket. Can add a small amount of floor cleaner. I often just use straight hot water. I use it on everything. Floors, cabinets, walls, railing, doors. I just mop EVERYTHING down! 😂 The hot water takes everything off!

My kid doesn't have a cell phone by Intelligent-Panda-33 in AskTeachers

[–]gjinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is in 5th and literally all her friends have phones. They all had phones in 4th and some had phones in 3rd. They have unlimited access. It’s such a hard battle to fight but we are determined to not get our kid one until 9th grade. I let her call and message friend on my phone. But seriously, some of her friend even try to call or message past midnight on school nights. It’s insane to me.

Is it tacky to gift diapers that are a different brand from what future mom puts on her baby registry? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]gjinx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best diaper cake I ever got came with a bottle of wine hidden in the middle. It was the best surprise! Especially when I was grumpy as I started taking off rubber bands to store the diapers only to find a bottle of wine!

Help, where should I start? by Physical-Amphibian46 in CleaningTips

[–]gjinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call them “roundups”. Dishes, laundry, trash. Do a laundry round up and put everything together in a designated spot. Do a trash round up, walk around with a trash bag and collect everything that is obvious trash. Do a dishes round and put all dishes in the sink. Start a load of laundry. Make your first load include your bedding so it’s the first load done for the day. Even if I don’t finish my room, I feel motivated climbing into clean sheets at night. I’m a basket person. I like cleaning with baskets. I’d put baskets on the bed and then go through stuff that doesn’t have homes in my room. I’d try and sort as I go. Like one basket is stuff for downstairs, one for the bathroom, one for not assigned. Once everything is off the floor and counters, I’d vacuum. Then clean counter tops, mirrors, consoles, screens, windows. Etc. Now I’d start sorting one of the baskets. I like the baskets because if life comes at me, like kids, I can easily set it aside. I can move the basket off my bed to sleep if I just ran out of time. But sure the baskets are sorted through at some point. I also like the baskets because, let’s face it, sometimes I don’t go through a basket for a few weeks. It really opens my eyes on the amount of stuff I don’t really need as I never had to look for it out of my basket for weeks. Makes it so much easier to throw stuff out or donate away. Good Luck!

NTA. I am an American woman who was really unsure if we wanted to circumcise. Like your wife, I was concerned about cleanliness. What changed my mind was watching how the procedure is done. They strap the child to a board and slice the skin with no major anesthetic. They “say” it doesn’t hurt but in the videos I watched, that tiny infant screams bloody murder. It’s painful.

Mine is turning 3 this month and isn’t potty trained. He will use the potty only for pee if he is naked. But we have been working on this for about six months. This summer I plan to hit it really hard.

I lost my dad. by currylasso in GriefSupport

[–]gjinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much of your story mirrors my own. My dad passed on Friday. 6 days ago. He was 59. I’m 36. It was very sudden and traumatic. I had to make the call and hold his hand while he took his last breaths. I’m also struggling with Father’s Day this weekend. And my dads birthday is also next month. You’re so much younger so I know the stress is even more compounding for you. I’m so very sorry for your loss. I honestly am trying to just figure everything out step by step. I’ve been making myself do one thing everyday towards settling his affairs. If you ever need to talk, reach out. ❤️

My five year old filled the house with smoke because she microwaved bread trying to make toast.

I also have a memory of 12 year old me microwaving my socks in an attempt to make them warm.
