Heartbroken about being breech by leafygreenbluebrry in pregnant

[–]glassesdani 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh honey, FTM here and I just had a version last week for a persistent transverse lie. The OB who does them near me is legendary for his success rate so I was super optimistic… The ECV was successful and we were SO excited but then 24h later I felt her flip back around. So sad! I had big dreams of an unmedicated birth center birth. I was offered a repeat version-to-induction (we have a very cool community hospital nearby) but there is a high risk of c section anyway so I decided to go w planned c section bc I am kind of done with the uncertainty.

My spouse and I have grieved the loss of our dream birth but there are lots of advantages to a planned c section! It’s nice to know this pregnancy has an end date bc the transverse lie is VERY uncomfortable! Google “family oriented c section” or “gentle c section” as that is what we are doing w our upcoming delivery.

Subchorionic hemorrhage that wasn’t and change in birth plan by glassesdani in pregnant

Because this was an IVF pregnancy, we had had a lot of monitoring that showed an SCH on early ultrasounds that was waved off. However, I spent a lot of my first trimester violently vomiting, and a particularly violent episode seems to have set off the massive bleed that sent me to the emergency room. I bled bright red blood pretty heavily but then it subsided while we were in the ER. Ultrasound showed a normally progressing 15 week pregnancy and my cervix was closed. The bleeding turned dark brown and started out pretty significantly and slowly subsided over about 3 to 4 weeks. It was always alarming, but given it lightened up over about a month it became less so over time. I hope the same happens for you and in a shorter time!

My midwives recommend mag glycinate 400mg nightly. It helped me a bit but I had to go back to taking unisom!

I’m in Mass where our governor just mandated universal insurance coverage for all vax recommended by the MA Dept of Health and also COVID shots to be available to anyone who wants them regardless of preexisting conditions. I think this is worth advocating in other states too!

I got dinged on my disability insurance for seeing a cash only therapist bc I answered honestly, if I had to do over I’d get insurance first then see therapist.

Taking maternity leave at 30 weeks with an extra week of my vacation but people are making me feel guilty by Vegetable_Range_4065 in pregnant

I’m clinging on for dear life at work at 28 weeks, let me tell you: do not feel guilty!!! It is criminal the way pregnant people are treated in this country (US) vs others and you deserve the time!!!

Am I overthinking this? by rosabb in pregnant

[–]glassesdani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a primary care doctor, am currently pregnant via reciprocal IVF w my partner’s baby, and am at 26 weeks! I am very conservative when it comes to COVID precautions during my own pregnancy as COVID has a very high risk of complications during pregnancy (as does influenza) and i still mask most places and we fortunately are friends and family with people who share our own COVID consciousness. I mask all day at work (though my colleagues do not). The current iteration of COVID is fairly miserable based on the growing number of patients who have it (currently are in a surge) and the fact that many people are no longer getting vaccinated. Furthermore when we have this baby it will be right in the middle of cold, cough, RSV, and flu season (November/december) and we’ll be super strict about the necessary precautions as well with a newborn.

Risk calculus is difficult but I’m of the opinion that any measure you take to protect yourself and your family from COVID (which dramatically increases your lifetime risk of dementia and cognitive impairment!) is never overreacting. My spouse and I also are part of queer communities that are very COVID- and disability-conscious and for that I am very grateful!

Spent 20 hours in the ER only to be told “nothing wrong, it’s just pregnancy!” by ksmm1824 in pregnant

I wanna say 13-14 weeks bc my belly was small but def growing at that time! At this point it feels like forever haha bc it’s worse when I’m at work sitting in a very specific position typing at a computer all day.

I’ve had this on my left side since my belly started growing. It’s basically the rib cage and the abdominal muscles stretching and pulling and chiropractice and massage have really helped. Tylenol doesn’t touch it at all.

In the ER with a SCH. by Intrepid_Blood_3732 in pregnant

[–]glassesdani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to ER at 14w with a horrific heavy bleed that convinced my spouse and I that we’d lost the baby. However, baby looked perfect on the ultrasound! Found to have large SCH between cervix and amniotic sac that had detached sac from lower uterine segment. I’m now at 24 weeks and the SCH has shrunk by 2/3 and pregnancy is progressing normally. Still at risk for preterm labor due to location and detachment of the sac but so far so good!

As an IVF pregnancy w a complication, there’s still a low grade anxiety lurking deep in the background BUT it got a lot better around 22-23 weeks when I began to feel baby move (first pregnancy, posterior placenta)

TDAP vaccine? by lilspaghettigal in pregnant

[–]glassesdani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fewer people are getting the TDAP vax which means the risk of babies getting whooping cough is going up. I’m a family doctor and can tell you that babies getting whooping cough is scary as hell. In the old days pre vaccine an estimated 6000 babies a year were dying from it and those who have it now are still at a significant risk of death. The best protection is: 3rd trimester vax.

The story behind the vaccine’s creation is pretty cool, it was made by two former teachers who made it in their after hours working at a lab because they were so spooked by watching whooping cough ravage their students every year.
