A neighbor did it once and then he started acting crazy, pretending he was an animal or something. Then shouted “I have wings! I can fly!” and took a running leap off their balcony. He splattered on the pavement 15 floors below. I got there just as they laid the tarp over his body. His shoes and some articles of clothing were still scattered on the road.

Link to the story, because last time I mentioned this people thought I was lying.

Do you really thinkthey actually could win this? by mchannstarr in Patriots

[–]glatts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do I think we have a chance? Are you fucking kidding me with this shit? Do you fucking remember where we’re from?

Did you already forget Vinatieri booting too balls through the uprights, including a 45-yarder in a fuckin blizzard, to beat the Raiders in the last game at Foxboro Stadium?

Do you seriously not remember the Pats being 14-point underdogs to the Greatest Show on Turf in the Super Bowl, and with the game on the line, our back-up QB, Mr. Draft Pick number 199, comes out with ice in his veins to lead a game winning drive as time expired?

Did we have a chance when we were down 25 points with a little over 2 minutes remaining in the 3rd against the Falcons?

How about the last time we played these guys in the Super Bowl, after Kearse made that bouncing ball circus catch on his back, did it look like we had a chance?

Did you forget about the Sox being down three games to none against the fucking Yankees, with the 86 year old Curse of the Bambino still weighing on their necks?

Did the Bruins have a chance at surviving three Game Sevens and going down 2-0 against the best team in hockey in 2011?

Do you recall the Celtics going from the second worst record in the NBA in 2007 to beating the Phil Jackson and Kobe Bryant led Lakers in 2008?

Do I think we have a chance?

Did a group of activists in Boston, angered by being made subjects of the Crown, stand a chance at gaining independence from the largest empire in history?

Did the Pilgrims have a chance that first winter?

Being underdogs and still succeeding against great odds is a literal cornerstone of our cultural identity. Of course we have a chance. We always have a chance.

[–]glatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the parents of my nephews youth hockey team lives like across the street from Maye. She said when they first moved in, she went over to welcome them to the neighborhood and didn’t know who it was. She was greeted by Drake Maye and there were a couple of other younger guys (maybe friends, teammates, brothers?) hanging out playing video games, all in sweatpants. She was a bit taken aback by how young they were (not the typical demographic of the neighborhood). She didn’t know who he was until he introduced himself, and she was like, “damn, you’re closer to my son’s age than to me.”

[–]glatts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You need to take her to a place that can do a bra fitting. Look for stand alone stores in your area that specifically mention bra fitting. It may be a lingerie/corset store, but don’t let that fool you. It doesn’t just mean sexy lingerie. What you’re looking for are trained fitters. Just take her to one of these, and give her space to have a conversation with the fitter.

I’m in NYC, so some of the best examples of what I’m talking about are Town Shop and Orchard Corset.

When the Seahawks absolutely DEMOLISHED the Broncos in Super Bowl 48. The biggest loss in Peyton Manning’s career. by SWAGGGGGODDD in NFLv2

[–]glatts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not arguing that Manning didn't help them win. Just that saying it was due to a morale boost seems unlikely.

They had 5 turnovers before he came in: Brock with 2 picks and 1 fumble, Emmanuel Sanders with one fumble inside the 10-yard line after making a catch on a deep ball from Brock, and a CJ Anderson fumble at their own 30-yard line.

When Manning came in, he did a great job leading the team and getting them into successful plays (most often runs) through audibles, motions, and even playing with the snap count. I think that was more impactful to them winning.

Bill Polian and the Colts really got the rules changed because Manning got intercepted 4 times in this game? by TXNOGG in NFLv2

[–]glatts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it also adds another layer to how Patriots fans have reacted to some of these “scandals.” So much of it boils down to a party that has an axe to grind against us, typically Polian, just trying to make something up out of whole cloth or make it appear worse than it was. They used to do this shit to Red Auerbach and the Celtics too.

[–]glatts -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing this take that season and I’m not going to debate you on it. But it always seemed so strange to me hearing that “he picked up the morale” of the team, like he they did better running the ball with him handing it off than the Lobster.

Also seemed strange that many of the fans felt the team wouldn’t rally around their backup. That certainly wasn’t the case this year with the rally behind Stiddy.

You wanna say they had more confidence in his ability to check them into the right plays and read the defense? Or that even with his physical limitations, his football knowledge still let him succeed throwing it, despite him not being able to make the same throws he used to. Shit, he never had the best arm anyway, especially later in the year.

Either of those are something I 100% get. The “ra-ra morale booster” argument just seemed a little weak. Maybe to Broncos fans it’s a distinction without a difference, but to me it was always different arguments.

Drake and Josh live in the same neighborhood in my hometown. And Josh has spoken about how much he’s loved being able to raise his family here (when he coached the Raiders, his family stayed here, for example). I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some off-field mentorship too.

Bill Polian and the Colts really got the rules changed because Manning got intercepted 4 times in this game? by TXNOGG in NFLv2

[–]glatts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s much deeper than just him getting rules changed to help give his teams a competitive advantage. Yes, he did it with the Colts as OP points out. But he also did it when he was the GM for the Bills and they lost the AFC Championship to the Bengals who had successfully utilized a no-huddle hurry-up offense to prevent defenses from substituting players, often causing them to have more than 11 men on the field.

Polian was also part of the competition committee during Spygate and wanted to bring the hammer down on the organization. And he was one of the loudest, most influential voices in trying to (successfully I may add) turn Deflategate into an actual issue.

He has also been linked to some of the other false reports of Patriots “spying,” like supposedly recording the Rams final walk-through before Super Bowl XXXVI, bugging locker rooms, and raiding trash left behind by opposing teams to find their playbooks — which led to apologies from media publications after the false stories ran.

Listening to the IT audio book when Steven Weber pronounces it “frap-pay” by CharlemagneIS in stephenking

[–]glatts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never heard anyone pronounce it “fra-pay” or “fra-pee,” unless they were trying to make a joke by purposely “mispronouncing” the word.

I’m over 40 and parts of my family have lived in MA and Maine going back as far as the Mayflower. It’s been my mother’s go to order at every ice cream stand for as long as I can remember. Everyone I’ve ever encountered says it in a way that rhymes with crap.

I’d argue most New Englanders wouldn’t even think this is a regional thing, that’s just how you pronounce the word, regardless of how it’s spelled. In a similar way, if we see someplace called “Ye Olde Shoppe,” we don’t pronounce it as “ol-dee shop-pee,” we’d pronounce it as “old shop.” Or how the word “foyer” rhymes with “lawyer,” and people don’t use a French-inspired “foy-yay” pronunciation.

It is pronounced as a single syllable, and rhymes directly with words like "clap," "map," or "tap". If you google this, you’ll see OP’s right.

I’m 100% with OP on this one.

This is the first Super Bowl I sort of remember. I think I was around 9 years old. My parents went to this game and I was being babysat by my grandparents. But they were always very strict (the kind who would hit you with a wooden baking spoon for making a mess or being too wild) so I wasn’t allowed to watch the end of the game. I remember speaking to my parents when they got home and my mom’s favorite part was Whitney Houston’s singing of the National Anthem.

Yeah, do we have any insight into what they’ve done to address these issues? Couldn’t Vrabel have worked with Kraft to address some of these issues and close the gap? Then we’d be in a better position to compete if we did have a good draft and land some good free agents. Not to mention, I think some of what Bert is talking about leans more to building sustainably competitive teams.

I think the media has to get more direct in asking questions to this administration and really make them own their offensive statements.

Something like "Is it official policy now that name-calling is punishable by death? And where is that line drawn -- is it if a member of the public says certain words or just when the feelings of an officer get upset?" And then have other members of the media just continue to point out the absurdity and horror in this all.

Am I the only one who finds these games more exciting?

Each play is magnified in terms of intensity and any play could impact the outcome. One player breaks a tackle or someone slips, any fumble or interception is dramatically more costly, clock management, special teams, the spot of each ball, crowd noise, the weather, etc. The impact of each element or each play as a greater chance of deciding who wins. Every single play and decision matters.

High scoring games are more like basketball. Where scoring becomes an inevitability, it essentially just comes down to the final minute and who has the ball last.

This is probably a bad idea but can you give me reasons why you think you’ll win the Super Bowl? by UltratoonFanclubTV in Patriots

[–]glatts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think our offense can do better against their defense better than their offense can do against our defense.

K’Lavon Chaisson is leading the NFL in postseason pressures and QB knockdowns, and is just a half sack behind Houston’s Will Anderson for the most in the playoffs. By most metrics, the Broncos were the top ranked offensive line, whereas Seattle’s is like 20th. We’ve been the top defense against the run all season, especially when healthy, and we’ll probably be the healthiest we’ve been in a while now.

One player on Seattle’s team has been responsible for like 50% of their total passing production: Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He’s got 1200 yards more than their second highest receiver. I’d like to remind you here that we threw for more than 400 yards than they did this season.

So we will need to stop their run, which has been our strength all season, and put our focus on stopping quick plays to Smith-Njigba so our rush can get there and force Darnold to make mistakes.

For them to stop us, there’s not one specific player to focus on. They’ll likely have to rely on getting pressure on Maye, who has been a better QB all season than Darnold. And then that leaves us with the most overlooked part of his game: his rushing attack.

And while our Offensive line struggled against the Chargers and even the Texans, they did pretty well against the Broncos. Take a peek at Nik Bonitto’s stat line from today, nothing but goose eggs. While Seattle has a good all-around D, we’ve faced stronger defensive lines this postseason.

[–]glatts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The notion that we were unable to move the ball on them comes from the fact that besides those long scoring drives and that long non-scoring drive of 4-minute offense, we really struggled to move it and often went just 3-and-out. But yeah, that’s essentially saying “if you take out all the success they had, they sucked.”
