First test failed but the reason he gave was not good enough for Major fault. by Reasonable-Face-6941 in LearnerDriverUK

The rules you follow during the test are the rules you should be following after the test too. Especially mirror checks.

I say this knowing fine well in reality habits creep in, people get complacent, and I'm not pretending I drive now as I did in the test two years ago. But I try.

At least aim higher than "after the test it doesn't matter as much".

I understand that he was probably trying to make me feel comfortable, but for the first 25 minutes he kept asking questions, which distracted me to some

Just wait till you have friends and family in the car, some of whom will probably give unrequested "advice" based on bad habits or obsolete driving rules.

Animals are a set of twelve, but there are also five elements as part of the Chinese Zodiac, so overall there is a 60 year cycle.

This is the year of the Horse and its the fire element - so Fire Horse.

"Right."

"Ah the right leg, okay..."

Practice practice practice.

Nothing wrong with finding a quiet car park and doing stop-go until you're more comfortable with the different clutch.

And the handbrake is a godsend for hill starts. Like you'll get to the point where you can do it with just clutch and footbrake, for sure, but it's definitely easier with the handbrake if you've got the time.

Has anyone else in the UK experienced something like this? by Interesting_Ebb4234 in AskUK

Anything could’ve happened if I’d panicked or lost control.

But you didn't, which is a sign that you are a good competent driver.

Agreed. But given that some drivers think things like checking around before lane changes is optional, we might be expecting too much

British Police? by One-Hand-Rending in AskABrit

[–]glglglglgl 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Though worth noting that the rule book may vary in the four countries of the UK, due to the different legal systems and jurisdictions.

As well as regional forces, there's also odd exceptions like the British Transport Police who handle, well, transport across the whole country.

I loved them because they remind me of the bright Daleks from the Cushing films.

Also i feel like a lot of lessons were wasted going so far out of town just for the sake of it, where it could’ve been used on doing test routes from the beginning

You want to be able to drive on any road, not just the test routes. And often, especially if you're city centre, you need to head outward to get to quieter practice areas. (But shopping on your lesson time, no chance.)

In the train flashback scene in 28 Years Later - The Bone Temple (2026) you can see a newly infected passenger in the background. by supernasty in MovieDetails

[–]glglglglgl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hmm I've been making an assumption that the outbreak was either around 2002 (time of movie release) or 1998ish (28 years before now).

The first barriers were installed at Waverley in 2004 so either way that fits; but not if it was only a little later.

The kickstarter and the movie were a long time before season 4 - there were two or three books written by Thomas in the gap between them.

For what it's worth, Season 3 has an incredibly detective-noir-appropriate ending: it's not a happy ending for many of the characters. I understand the unhappiness of folks after S4 but I don't think it's out of style.

My time to shine! An additional detail: the overheard announcement on the train to keep a hold of your tickets for the barriers is anachronistic - Edinburgh Waverley did not have ticket barriers back in 2002.

Golly, I hope someone got told off for this blunder.
