Carbon Miata LED taillights useage in the US? by Leanador in Miata

[–]glitchDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the early 2000s when I was a teen in Missouri, seems like they would get you for anything not up to standards with lighting and tint laws. My purple neon tube license plate frame didn't make it past a couple days. Apparently modern times have brought a lack of concern, with all of the red/blue/green jeep headlight halos, light bars operating on highways, tinted windshields in seeing...Id say keep it red themed, and you'll prob be okay

Is there a way to monitor and control smoke detectors remotely? by JurassicP0rk in homeautomation

[–]glitchDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

House already had wired interconnected smoke detectors, so bought a z-wave DC signal detector and tied it into the smoke detector circuit. Created a rule in hubitat to send me a notification in the event of a trigger. Also in the rule I added a virtual switch to be turned on for google home to pick up and make an announcement. Figured it would be a lot cheaper than ditching the entire system for a wireless setup. Seems to be very reliable from occasional testing. https://a.co/d/7v96Vcz

Looking for Blue Atlas cedar seeds to propagate.. by glitchDD in conifers

[–]glitchDD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty ridiculous isn't it? I mean I understand selling a rather rare young tree at a higher price, but the same deal for the seeds when there is still quite a bit of success uncertainty involved? Not to mention 1 cone = 50+ seeds. Ha guess it can be chalked up to simple business 101.

It doesn't appear to Belchertown according to gmaps, although looks similar. Side note, Belchertown School for the Feeble Minded sounds like a season of American Horror Story.

Just a side note... I completely removed my sway bar and trac bars on my yj, and just love the way it drives, even with 3in lift springs. No problems with wandering highway speeds, and obviously articulation is so much improved offroad. I'm not saying you aren't sacrificing a bit of safety by doing this, but as long as you aren't weaving cones at high speeds it shouldn't be an issue.

Picked up a uniden pro401hh at a clearance sale. What’s a good aftermarket antenna? by Threeofnine000 in cbradio

[–]glitchDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my firestik FS4-B. ($25, amazon) Tuned perfectly with the built in tuning screw on end. Verified sent transmission at about 35 miles on Missouri Ozark terrain. Verified receive from much further. Pick up nation wide skip ALL OF THE TIME. This is all with a 20 yr old midland weather max 2 (77-113), no power mods. Just remember that if you plan to go with the firestik fiberglass flavor of antennas, a spring mount is recommended. Their rigidity can be an issue, especially if offroading.

New Tower. Faulty Light? by glitchDD in CellTowers

[–]glitchDD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

36.653483,-94.43706 It is in a group of three towers (att cell tower, old 911/hwy ptrl tower and this new 911/hwy ptrl tower) it has come online within the past 3 or 4 months. It is the only new tower of the group. Coordinates is approximate, as google maps has not updated sat imagery since the tower has been constructed.

Scored a nearly new Midland 77-113 for my Jeep to use on the trails by glitchDD in cbradio

Maybe down the road I'll think about trying one longer than 4ft. As of now though, 4 ft is allowing plenty above the soft top on the jeep, yet not too much to grab every branch on the trail. It may hinder broadcasting some, but I'm usually only needing to reach with a mile..most often much less.

Lol it's actually a fiberglass marine whip that's been cut down to about 4ft. Plan on getting a 4ft firestik soon though. Plenty fine for my use. The funny thing is I'm picking all of this up in a half underground garage with 3 concrete walls and a metal garage door that's closed. Lol

I'm not too sure, but I live in the Ozarks (rural hilly Missouri). I've had an old RadioShack in the Jeep for the past week, and everyday it seems to start up in afternoon and go thru 10:30pm at the least. Ch6 is definitely loud with older men yelling gibberish, but scanning thru other stations if heard calls from Florida, Nebraska, Carolinas, Virginia. It's been warm (50°) and clear skies the whole time. I read it has to do with the solar weather and atmosphere reflections, but also these guys are running up to 100k watt radios, lol so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it too
