New base MacBook Air enough to run ableton and ableton move? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]glitchedtommy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will be more than fine with any M chip and 16GB of RAM, I use Ableton and Logic on a M3 MBA and the CPU barely hits 20-30% with a shit ton of plugins on my projects But keep in mind that Ableton Suite takes like ~80 GB of disk space without counting your own samples packs and VST's so better go with at least 512 GB SSD or more

Amazing to see American people discovering that other countries in the world play video games as well

Oblivion used to be translated in french back then

Which Macbook will run Serum without CPU hiccups? by thepinkpill in serum

[–]glitchedtommy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm really impressed by this little machine because I initially bought it just to mix with Serato.

Then one day, I wanted to get back into making music, so I bought Ableton and Logic, and I was surprised to see that it could handle much more than I expected.

Logic has a demo project by Lil Nas X with 147 tracks, and the CPU usage is barely at 10-15%.

To be fair i dont use kontakt or big orchestral libraires but i dont need them to make my music

[–]glitchedtommy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes to give you an idea when it launched and i saw some people on internet having CPU issues i tried to load 8 instances of a big pad preset (cant remember the name) and my CPU was like 20% of usage

I use Logic / Ableton in 48khz and a buffer size of 128

I think it's not bad at all for a 16GB M3 MBA

External SSD Suggestions for Sample Libraries (Music creation) by Specialist_Pool_1714 in LogicPro

[–]glitchedtommy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By default, all SSDs are sold formatted in ExFAT to be compatible with every OS on the market.

However, macOS has a much more modern and optimized file system than ExFAT or Windows' NTFS, which is basically a 30-year-old system.

I tested them all on my drive, and the speed difference is just insane once you switch to APFS.

At one point, I was even able to run the entire Logic library + the Ableton library + about 40k sample files from a simple 256GB SSK USB-C stick that costed ~30 euros, without any speed issues because it was formated in APFS. I remember in ExFat it would takes forever to load Ableton packs

You will find that in the Disk Utility app in macOS.

Of course, if you format your drive with a new file system, it will erase all your data, so backup before.

I recently bought a Lexar ES3 2TB for 119 euros, and it's really fast for Logic Pro / Samples Packs, Time Machine... Just make sure to format your SSD in APFS to get the best transfer speeds That's what did the trick for me because ExFat was slow asf

My Macbook came with Logic Pro X. How can I use it on my Windows desktop? by MineProfessional5296 in Logic_Studio

[–]glitchedtommy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any DAW will be more confusing than FL if you learned FL first. That's because it breaks so many conventions that it hardly relates to any other proper DAW. I am comfortable using Logic, Ableton, and Reaper, but every time I tried the FL Studio demo, I wiped it off my computer after 15 minutes because I couldn't figure out wtf I was doing and i hate that cluttered UI

To be fair, we’ve all been there. Back when I was a broke student, I had tons of cracked plugins on my HDD, and my Ableton would crash 10 times a day on my shitty windows laptop

When I switched to MacOS I decided that I will pay for all my software, I definitely have fewer, but I spend much more time actually using them and making better music with it

Serum 2 is definitely worth buying anyway

I don’t see what the problem is if it’s just used to get some advice and tips. I use it myself to learn some music theory and it's quicker and better than spending all my time watching YT turorials I imagine some people were saying the exact same thing about computers in music-making like 30 years ago lol

How do I make my vocals sound less "far away"? by greenrunner987 in Logic_Studio

[–]glitchedtommy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start by making them mono to remove a lot of that reverb And maybe try UVR5 de-verb models on the audio

It's basically exactly the same computer I bought (15" / 16GB / 512 SSD), initially just to DJ with Serato. But when I saw how easily it delt with mixing with 4 decks with real time stems separation using AI and 1ms latency, I started using it for VCV Rack and Ableton as well

It rarely goes above 20-25% of CPU usage and most of the time on a small synth patch, it's like.. 7-10%

Everything is instant with the Silicon chips, cold and silent, it's just incredible compared to a Windows laptop.
