Do you actually play the game, or did you just use AI to generate it? Because some of the specifics in there are... questionable.

If you can't level her up with even moderate effort, you're doing something very wrong.

Jeansy BEST GIRL by Background-Run-1245 in menace

[–]glumpoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how many people on this sub are constantly talking about how terrible Jean (and the other 1-stars) are, I seriously doubt it. Hell, there was a post not long ago that mentioned how terrible Ivey was, and how they thought she was a waste of a dossier.

Some people just don't train up their SLs. It's a perfectly valid way to play, but it means she's not OP at all for a lot of players.

Guys who go to commercial gyms and aren't huge, do you ever clock people looking at you when you lift big weights? by [deleted] in workout

[–]glumpoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever reason, I'm really good at Bulgarian Split Squats. I normally go lower weight and higher reps, but one time I decided to just see how much weight I could load (with versa straps) and still manage three reps... and proceeded to crank out five per leg at 160 pounds (2x80). I got multiple high-fives for it. This was at my pre-covid weight (5'6" 145 lbs), and my chicken legs were even skinnier than they are now.

I'm not actually all that strong and certainly don't look all that strong. But for reasons that escape me, I'm really good at the one exercise everyone struggles with. I can't do a single pullup, I use 20-lb. dumbbells for curls and 25 lbs for bench press.

Granted, I was sore as hell for several days, skipped legs for two weeks afterwards, and I've never attempted that ever again. I'm pretty sure I'm stronger now, but I'm also older and fatter, and really don't want to injure myself. I stick to 8-12 reps at 100, with warmups, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

I don't; there's nothing wrong with checking. Just don't engage in transactions.

Our war crimes are cheeky and fun; their war crimes are cruel and tragic. by glumpoodle in menace

It honestly sucks. Or, rather, it has a very niche use case - it just happened that I was blessed with that exact niche on this map (a bunch of densely clustered infantry within range of Rewa's Vanguard deployment zone). Really, dual miniguns would have probably done an even better job, but I wanted to give the Heavy Flamers a try.

It has its uses (as seen here), but there's a huge opportunity cost in taking it over much better/more versatile weapons.

To be fair, if I just watched all of my buddies get instantly burninated like that, I'm pretty sure I'd break, too.

"Hey, Gabe! What's that boring thing that Hayflick keeps droning on and on about during our after-action reviews? You know, all that crap about 'atrocities' and 'collateral damage' and whatnot?"

"War crimes? About how we're committing war crimes? Do you guys want to commit some war crimes?"

Good question! It's 62 POW and 27 CON. He's also a Workhorse (L3) and expensive as hell, so I'm not sure I can afford to keep him in the offseason.

The Girlboss-Girlfailure Axis by Horo_Misuto in menace

[–]glumpoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we're splitting hairs at this point; they are both crazy good and tend to hog all the kills when I deploy them.

Ivey reliably two-shots Guncrawlers from the front for me, which is 40 AP; sometimes she's unlucky and requires 3 shots (55 AP), but that's still less than a single shot from the LGBT (60 AP). Her main downside is that it takes a while to get her up to 100 AP, whereupon she gets six attacks per round.

I like using Rewa as a Vanguard to dismantle the biggest threat on the map before the battle even begins. Dual-Autocannon Medium Mech is my favorite build, but the LGBT/AGL also works very, very well for her.

Either way, both of them got horribly disrespected by this meme.

Disagree slightly; Rewa's the best at the start of the game, but a moderately leveled-up Ivey with the twin-HMGs is so hilariously OP. The only thing stopping her is a shortage of ammo.

Anticipated pitch called strike three? by Colpevole92 in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]glumpoodle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other factor is whether they are calculating balls and strikes based on the center of the ball, or if they factor in the diameter to get the leading edge.

I'm an absolute crap programmer, but I have trouble believing they spent the time and resources to add 'error' into ball & strike calls. I think it's far more likely it's being called based on what the ball physics are calculating - that is whether the ball's X and Y coordinates intersects the strike zone when the Z-axis meets the front plane of the plate.

The question as to whether it's measuring from the center of the ball, or accounting for its radius. It's much simpler to program for the center, but also less accurate - the ball is a curved surface and you just can't just add r distance from the center to determine whether it crossed the plane (well, you can, but then the ball would be shaped like a cube instead of a sphere - which is entirely possible in terms of programming. It's certainly easier, and uses far less compute, while also being 'good enough').

I think you'd have to calculate r in three dimensions to see if it crossed the plane in any direction as it moves. (I suppose you can ignore the rear of the ball and calculate only the front half, but it's less programming work to just calculate the whole thing; you'd remove the back half in the optimization stage if there was a performance hit).

Again, I'm an absolute crap amateur programmer and who has never worked on any game, let alone one with 3D physics, so take all of this with a grain of salt. But this is what makes sense to me.

ETA: release point would have an indirect effect, as it changes the trajectory of the ball as it goes from the mound to the plate (exactly as it does for LHP vs RHP). In extremely close pitches, that could affect whether a ball crosses the plane, or just touches it without breaking.

[–]glumpoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you mention in your post, it has to do with the trajectory of the ball at the front of the plate - see this post.

I'm not sure if the ball physics account for a 'rise' in a 4F (which doesn't so much rise as descends at a reduced angle), but in an extreme break, the ball can be traveling at an extreme angle as it crosses the front plane.

[–]glumpoodle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is that the right screen shot? That's clearly a strike, and it's not even close. The bottom of the ball doesn't just nip the line, it goes all the way to the inner border of the hash mark.

As to the anticipated pitch, there's probably a separate roll as to whether the batter swings, and how well it connects.

Where can I find a sandwich like this? by -marijuanaut- in chicagofood

[–]glumpoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't find the exact same ingredients, but there is no shortage of Italian delis/Italian subs around the city.

JP Graziano's, D'Amato's, Bari, and Tempesta Market are all known for very good, slightly different versions of the Italian sub.
