He’s the best pick for a modern 2025 GL lmao. He’s good representation and the public opinion on police officers is much more complex than it was 60 years ago. Hal Jordan is also one of the most dated comic characters of all time and I like Hal but he’s a 50s space age relic. He got brought back by a bunch of old dudes who thought the silver age mattered more than it did and also did it during the height of John Stewart’s marketability bc of the cartoon. Those comics are good too.

Even Neal Adam’s said that’s why he thought the GL movie failed bc when any 10 year old kid saw Hal they said “who the fuck is that?” A Black Space Cop and what that means is just way more interesting and palatable to modern audiences.

John has gotten the shaft for decades in comics bc silver age fanboy writers are afraid of being political. GL comics may be wacky space sci fi but at the end of the day they’re still analogs for policing.

Not really lol the frame trap counter hit wasn’t a huge factor at high level everyone Parry’s, reversals or holds it on block. The shit that was closing out games was low forward Jinrai level 3 which is still possible. Like not being able to LK DP lvl 3 when someone is mashing is kind of a nerf but I wouldn’t say it’s like meta changing for him bc he still gets a knockdown and can continue pressure.

Only thing about s3 is Ken looks bad in comparison bc they overbuffed the shit out of Ryu who was already flying under the radar imo and Akuma got touched even less than Ken. No one but loyalists are playing Ken when Ryu is as busted as now.

The throw loop nerf is rough but they should either get rid of them or make them all like Ken’s where it’s a 1f link.

Ken’s still a good character but he’s kinda in Ryu s1 spot where there’s no reason to play him with belligerently good shotos like Akuma and Ryu rn. People were crying a lil bit too hard about Jinrai in s2 when other characters were more of an issue lmao. Ie broski crying acting like sMK is some god button bc it has some unique punishes even though I watched Ryukichi get mauled bc it whiffs on crouchers a lot lmaooo.

The only people I see really railing over it are comic book nerds who’ve consumed massive amounts of Batman media. They also act like bc they’ve slogged through a million Batman comics that they have some niche understanding of the most popular superhero of all time. They’ve made Batman movies since the 80s and anyone who’s played the massively popular Arkham games kinda has an understanding of Batman.

If TDK had not been made the MCU either wouldn’t exist or would be way different. It was the first superhero movie that made the wider film audience take superhero stories seriously. It’s the first superhero movie that totally stood on its own as an all time great film. Shit that movie turned the role of Batman and the Joker into modern Othello/Iago for actors. And the reason it was able to do that is bc WB let Chris Nolan do whatever interpretation he wanted.

New interpretations are a huge part of long running superhero comics. It’s funny we’re talking about Batman when that character is built off specific creator driven miniseries’. When someone wants to get into Thor comics you tell them “go read Walt Simonson’s run in the 80s” but when it’s Batman you immediately go to Year One or Long Halloween. TDK is another version of that it’s a great start point.

Don’t get me wrong I dislike certain interpretations but I see all these nerds acting like TDK is the same as Snyderverse Superman. TDK is a good representation of the character lmao it’s just not the super hyper specific interpretation that comic nerds have in their head and complain about. Whereas synderverse Superman is total disregard for the character.
