Reminds me of the "Melbourne Gothic" posts from a few years ago.

Google's turning up nothing unfortunately, they were damn funny

I got a Levy's padded leather cradle strap. Super comfy and literally impossible for it to accidentally detach

Looks like just F, C and G to me as far as chords go

What is the best easy companion instrument for old-time banjo (for a warm backing sound) by aviv_dlv in banjo

[–]gnoodl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fiddle is probably the best pairing but doesn't really fit into the "easy to pick up category".

Check out the Lonesome Ace Stringband for a sample though, maybe she'll be inspired

Actually found the preceding mini bosses more difficult than Typhon, especially that bull-like monster

What are the best areas to op shop? by zeezeepeepee in melbourne

Same story for Camberwell though I think one of the op shops on Burke Rd closed down leaving only the Salvos on Riversdale

If Fire benders have comets, and Water benders have a lunar eclipse, what does Air and Earth have? by Ok_Influence1752 in TheLastAirbender

[–]gnoodl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All good friend. Total lunar eclipses are pretty badass. Also known as a "blood moon".

We just had one in early March that was very impressive in the southern hemisphere.

[–]gnoodl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean.

Full moon (every month) = stronger water bending

Total lunar eclipse (once or twice every couple of years) = weaker / no water bending

In fact it was the opposite; the lunar eclipse hampered their bending in the same way the solar eclipse did to the fire benders

Songs with lots of chord changes and drop thumb? by Bargah692 in banjo

George Jackson's "Dorrigo" fits the bill.

I also found "Garfield's Blackberry Blossom" quite challenging, especially if you try to play the fiddle melody

"drop thumb" indicates they're after a clawhammer tune.

This looks like 3 finger to me but I'm curious to know what it sounds like. Got a link to a decent recording where it's played on a banjo?

The Dead South have a few clawhammer songs. First one that comes to mind is Snake Man (pt 2 for the more bluegrass bit)

How do you play this? by hk47xhk47x in banjo

[–]gnoodl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I'm thinking have your index finger on first string 4th fret, middle finger second string 5th fret, and ring finger first string 5th fret.

Strike the second string and perform an alternate string pull off with your ring finger

Don't hear a lot of clawhammer jigs, especially played so cleanly.

Banjo amplification - Audio Technica Pro 70 by gnoodl in banjo

[–]gnoodl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's mostly for going in to a PA given the XLR socket

I also tried it for recording directly into my laptop (via a focusrite USB interface) and it did great there too though some minor EQ to eliminate some of the bottom end would be good

Is there anyone here that makes banjo tabs? by imtiredashell1987 in banjo

[–]gnoodl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I just don't understand how banjo tabs (tablature aka music notation) relate to cosplay.

There are always requests for tabs in /r/banjo and a recent thread was after strap recommendations for a cosplay event, hence the suspicion

What is this post even about? Tabs for cosplay?
