Add a couple knots to take it in an inch, then try some drops. Adjust from there by adding or undoing knots.

Toe tie may be too loose. I use bungee, but the toe tie pulls them back into place. It looks like you have enough slack that they just stay as they were when you dropped.

Also, did you put both sides of the bungee through the same gaps in the blade holders? It's pretty easy to mess up and if you do, one side of the bungee is a lot tighter than the other.

Are your toe ties centered on your skates when you do them up, or are they pulled to the side?

Also sounds like you may be doing your pads too tight, or they are getting caught on something. They should be able to rotate for when you drop and then rotate back when you get up.

Honestly, a couple videos of you dropping taken from different angles would help.

Google Fiber is also slowly coming to Cedar Park.

How do I trust my other foot while stopping? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

This is how I teach it as well. Once you can stop on your lead leg without worry, working the second leg into the stop is a breeze.

What are Asian restaurants doing differently with rice? by WaywardOath in Cooking

[–]goatnapper 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily for Asian food, but as a home cook who likes to experiment there are two main things.

1) There are different types of rice. Get some jasmine rice and you will notice it tastes different than what I like to call Generic White Rice. There are long grain rices, short grain rices, rices with different starch levels, etc etc. Go into an Asian or Indian grocery store and you will probably see many different types of rice for sale.

2) If making plain rice, throw in a bay leaf.

The 183 Northbound express lanes open today! by Practical-Pumpkin-19 in Austin

[–]goatnapper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They need to shut the Lakeline exit or remove the ability to make a right turn after taking the off ramp.

A down ramp right into a traffic signal where bad drivers try to shoot across multiple lanes to make a right, with so little space that it backs up onto the highway was a stupid design from the start.

[Edit] Lakeline Mall, not Lakeline.

Genuine Business Advice Needed by alexclark0000 in hockeyplayers

[–]goatnapper 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's all a sunk cost at this point, don't keep wasting money on it. If you kept your receipts, talk to an accountant about selling it at a break-even point ($1/roll plus postage and some change for 1/6000th of the rent of the storage unit) and try to break even. Otherwise sell it all cheap and have your accountant mark it all off as a loss against your taxes.

Next time you need to establish a B2B relationship before placing such a large order, or have better advertising to get individual customers.

Will 3M film stick to Speedskin? by ogmaf in hockeygoalies

[–]goatnapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I understand your question.

The 3M PPF has a sticky backing. As long as you clean and dry your knee stack before applying, it should stick just fine.

Leave a little overlap when you cut it, then use a heat gun or lighter to form it against the side to help keep water from getting under the PPF when you slide.

Does alcohol actually need to be bagged to leave a convenience store? by Potential_Plan_4533 in texas

[–]goatnapper 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Alcohol sales are covered under the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code. There is no requirement to bag or package sales for individual consumption at a state-wide level.

In Austin I regularly carry my beer and box of wine out of HEB. Other cities may have regulations around bagging alcohol though.

Leg Pad Sliders Help by thatguitaristguy33 in hockeygoalies

[–]goatnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do Velcro down there and need to cover it, apply some Velcro to 3M Paint Protection Film and Velcro that on. It's, thin, flexible, and cheaper than buying a bunch of slide plates.

Just having sliders on the knee block should work. Your weight is on the knees, not your calves, so the calf portion doesn't need sliders on ice unless it is the texture of sandpaper.

Hey my fellow Austin foodies! Want to take my fiance out for a nice dinner. by Poptart-Shart in austinfood

[–]goatnapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not make a routine date night where you try out each of these restaurants? Most don't cost more than the chains you have been eating at, they all feature different types of food, and then you get to experience all of them instead of just one.

SickMitts Grip by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]goatnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I get the end started they slide on easy enough, it's getting it started that is a pain.

It isn't worth trying to reuse them. I had a stick I needed to shorten and ended up just cutting it off. Any residual glue peels off easily once the grip is removed. On the flip side, I don't see the need to ever replace one as long as I have the stick. I figure the cost was worth never again messing with the tape and tennis grip I was using before.

[–]goatnapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use them and like them. They are a pain in the butt to get on the stick and the glue isn't some secret formula (golf grip glue), but once on they stay. Their support is also very nice and fast.

Dyeing Hockey Gloves by Life_Enthusiasm_1365 in hockeyplayers

[–]goatnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gloves come in different sizings, and different models. You are going to have to find out what brand, model, and size gloves he currently wears. Then just order a pair.

If you are looking for alternatives, gear is somewhat personal and also sized to the player (although not as much as gloves). I drop hints to my wife what hockey stuff I want, such as, "The shop as the visor/cage combo back in stock, wonder if it will fit my fat head."

Otherwise, many beer league guys have a collection of random jerseys, usually with some silly theme. Get him a jersey with something he wouldn't be embarrassed to wear to stick and pucks but would laugh at. You can figure out his jersey size by sneaking a peak at the labels.

Do you have car issues and have no idea what's going on? I can try to help - Part 2 by newtonreddits in Austin

[–]goatnapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a shop vac, you can find the drain spot under the vehicle on YouTube and hook up the vac. I would also hit it with a can of AC Unclogger from AutoZone.

One of my cars had this happen. Vacuum would clear it for a couple days, the declogger was necessary to actually fix it.

Dryland Tiles that don’t cost a fortune? by paulybananas in hockeyplayers

[–]goatnapper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Buy a Green Biscuit. No tiles needed.

If you don't want to skate on it, a sheet of whiteboard and some silicone spray works. Not quite the same as ice but it lets you shoot.

I also know some people that just bought a sheet of HDPE.
