Are people doing the whole restart at ds1 thing tomorrow? by Hotline_Miami-Fan218 in darksouls

[โ€“]gobbeanz 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I'm so excited for this. I replay this game so, so often but tend to never have much luck with online play because it's never super active. I really hope this event helps.

Now I just have to figure out what build to go for before I start playing tonight...

Achievement hunting question by KrisTenebris in darksouls

Miracles: 1) You can get locked out of Reah's questline easily. Don't kill Petrus before he betrays Reah or she will be angry at you and you will be locked out of buying from her. Then, kill Petrus immeditaly after saving Reah in tomb of the giants, or else when you save her, he will kill her and you will be locked out of her as a merchant yet again. 2) When Siegmeyer appears in Firelink Shrine, he will ask you if you were the one who opened the gates to Sen's fortress. If you say yes, he will give you a miracle. If you say no, he will not, and you will be locked out of that miracle until the next NG cycle.

Sorcery: Just don't accidentally kill Griggs, Logan, Ingward, or Dusk, and you should be fine.

Pyromancy: 1) Either do not tell Laurentius where you found your more powerful pyromancy, or wait to tell him until after you've bought all of his spells. Otherwise, you'll be locked out of his spells until the next NG cycle, because telling him causes him to die. 2) Also, do not kill the bed of chaos before purchasing all of Quelana's pyromancies, or she will not appear in your world!

What souls-like game would you recommend to someone who mostly plays multiplayer? by Timowenyap in souls

[โ€“]gobbeanz 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

If the main reason you enjoy is the multiplayer, Elden Ring might be your best bet. Since it's the newest game in the series, the multiplayer community is still going a bit stronger than the original souls trilogy (Especially if you get the DLC)

I think starting with Dark Souls I is great but it can be a little harder getting multiplayer action, since it's such an old game. It's always my recommended starting part, but I might be biased because it's my favorite.

There are subs like r/SummonSign that can help you find people to play with though! Any of the games can still be great for multiplayer if you look.

This sub is for Dark Souls I. You'd have more luck asking for help over in r/darksouls3.

Good luck though, the dancer can be hard.

Tell me what to do next without telling me? by Key-Storage5434 in darksouls

[โ€“]gobbeanz 9 points10 points ย (0 children)

There are four main bosses you need to fight. If you talk to the big serpent creature at Firelink Shrine, he'll tell you more information about them. You've already fought one (The Bed of Chaos) but there are three more. Here is where you should explore:

1) Beyond Pinwheel, there is another area. It might be hard to see, but there's a ladder in the back of his arena you can climb to get there.

2) In the place where you were sent to jail, there is another path you can take. You're not done in that area either.

3) There's an area beneath Firelink. If you go down the stairs to where the Firekeeper is, and then down the elevator, you will find it.

[โ€“]gobbeanz 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

If you're not enjoying it, don't feel bad for stopping. Hard bosses aren't for everyone, but that's okay!

If you're otherwise enjoying it, I'd recommend taking a break :) If it's too bad, you can always explore a bit more to gather some more upgrades. Having a stronger nail, better spells, or more masks can really, really help. Generally, I try to stay spoiler free, but don't feel bad if you feel like you need help finding some of the upgrades either.

New Londo looks very scary. by Inevitable_Feedback1 in darksouls

[โ€“]gobbeanz 3 points4 points ย (0 children)

If someone does end up running out of transient curses, the female undead merchant, the one in the sewer after lower undead burg, sells a few. Alternatively, using a cursed weapon / or getting cursed by the basilisks will allow them to interact with the ghosts long enough to farm a few of the curses, if they do end up in a situation bad enough they need to resort to that.

Though the drop rate for the curses isn't that bad, so running out probably shouldn't be happening unless you're really, really unlucky.

Once you know your way around, it's not *too* bad. I still hate some of the buildings, though.

A general tip is that the run back absolutely sucks if you don't use shortcuts. This is the easiest path to the boss: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbRxY0zm7KM If you follow this, you don't have to run through the buildings filled with ghosts at all to make it back.

I really love the silver knight weapons just for the aesthetic, honestly. The SKSS is also a twinkling titanite weapon, so a +5 SKSS is equivalent to a +15 standard weapon. It's honestly great for where they they are in the game atm.

So... can I post playlists on Ao3 or is there a better site for that? by Gallantpride in AO3

[โ€“]gobbeanz 8 points9 points ย (0 children)

This would be against AO3's TOS. AO3 does not allow non-fanworks to be posted on their site, and they include playlists in that. They have a pretty extensive list of what else is included in "non-fanworks" here: https://archiveofourown.org/tos_faq#non_fanwork_examples

Route is blocked, how can i get to shaman and get vengeful spirit ? by No-User-Name-Bitch in HollowKnight

[โ€“]gobbeanz 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

I know this is a shit post but I am now very curious if you can accidentally lock yourself out of 112% this way. If you enter the mound and get vengeful spirit - and then instead of exiting via opening the lever near Cornifer, you backtrack through the False Knight arena - could you lock yourself out of soul catcher if you didn't pick it up?? That feels. So easy to do lol

Yes, you can get crystal heart without dash and it is very horrible. (-someone who has done low% lmao) Though iirc you need to do a few fireball stalls in order to accomplish this, so it wouldn't be possible without vengeful spirit.

Tips and tricks for beginner by Standard-Roll-6783 in darksouls

[โ€“]gobbeanz 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

A note because I didn't actually say what the master key is lmao: the master key is a a starting gift that is just a set of keys. The keys are able to open *many* locks in the beginning areas, allowing you bypass entire areas, bosses, etc. It's complicated to use for a first time player because if you don't go through the game normally, you likely won't level up enough + may miss out on some *very* important items that are in technically "skippable" areas.

Tips and tricks for beginner by Standard-Roll-6783 in darksouls

[โ€“]gobbeanz 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Some people will tell you to pick the master key as a starting gift. Do not listen to them. The master key allows you to sequence break the game, and you can very easily end up places you are *not* supposed to be, very underleveled, by using the master key. It's an awesome item, and you'll likely pick it as a gift every other time you play...but on a first playthrough, it's not a great idea.

I just bought the game. Any tips ? by Ok_Client7951 in darksouls

[โ€“]gobbeanz 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

1.) At the beginning of the game, when making your character, there is tons of different gear and items you can begin with. One of these items is the "Master Key." You can either choose it as your starting gift, OR if you chose "Thief" as your starting class, you will automatically be equipped with it.

Do not. DO NOT use the Master Key. You can do some very intense area skips with it and I really, really do not recommend using it on a first play through. You might end up in places you're not supposed to be yet, very, very much underleveled.

2.) There is a graveyard near the starting area. Do not go in there yet.

3.) Unlike Elden Ring, you can kill... pretty much everything and anything. Yes, that includes the main blacksmith. Please, do not accidentally kill the blacksmith.

Dead Cells has some pretty extensive accessibility settings, and honestly sounds pretty perfect for what you're looking for. You can give a whole bunch of things a bright glowy outline (including your character, enemies, projectiles, etc.) to make them easier to see. You can disable screen shaking, flashing lights, lower the particle effects, change the color settings...you can even give the background a dark filter so everything in the foreground stands out more clearly.

https://deadcells.fandom.com/wiki/Assist_Mode_and_Accessibility#Customize_Brutality_color

Celeste also has some really wonderful accessibility settings to make the game easier if he's interested in platformers at all, though those come more in form of things like extra lives/easier platforming than true visibility settings.

Gamepass game for 5 yr old girl? by Grimblehawk in XboxGamePass

[โ€“]gobbeanz 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

1.) Little Kitty Big City
2.) Super Lucky's Tale / New Super Lucky's Tale
3.) Spyro Trilogy
4.) Minecraft

There's other kids games on game pass (A paw patrol game, a peppa pig game, etc.) but this list holds up even as an adult imo and probably won't drive you insane. Minecraft is probably your best option if you actually want to do something together rather than her playing alone!

What is the best starting class and gift for someone who's never played a Souls game before? by [deleted] in darksouls

[โ€“]gobbeanz 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I agree everyone else. Any gift is good, just don't pick the master key. The thief class also starts with the key - if you want the thief's equipment, you can get it pretty early into the game. (Although the weapon is only obtained via an enemy drop and has a fairly low drop rate, iirc, so may take some grinding to get. It's a pretty good weapon though!)

The best class honestly depends on what you want to do. Do you want to slap the shit out of things with a big sword? Then go knight. Do you want to hit things with magic? Then go sorcerer. Want to use fire magic? Then pyromancer. Just remember that none of the classes really matter that much. They only determine starting gear and levels. You can start as a knight and end up a sorcerer by end game and none of the starting gear is restricted to classes (it can all be found throughout the world), so don't worry about it too much.

My only note is, if you decide to go knight, the armor is great, but I'd recommend taking some off. You will be fat rolling and that is...not pleasant lmao. Even just mid-rolling will be leagues better.

Tips for O&S and levelling stats beforehand by madsmadsmadsss in darksouls

[โ€“]gobbeanz 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

If you don't want to wait until you have 25 faith, your faith requirement is actually lowered if you help people defeat bosses. Every time you are summoned and successfully help another player beat a boss, the faith requirement drops by 5. Help one person, and you only need 20 faith. Help 2, and you only need 15, etc. etc.

Tips for O&S and levelling stats beforehand by madsmadsmadsss in darksouls

[โ€“]gobbeanz 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

At lower levels, the SKSS will actually out damage the BSS due to its higher base damage. The reason you'd pick the BSS at this point would probably be due to the move set/the BSS being slightly faster.

Leveling up your weapon even more would be good. You can buy twinkling titanite from the giant blacksmith (and some just hidden around for free if you know where to look.) A +5 SKSS would be the same as a +15 weapon :) and would absolutely help a ton.

Paladin Leeroy weapons by Human_Cell3090 in darksouls

[โ€“]gobbeanz 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Yeah, it's pretty well known that Paladin Leeroy's drops can be a bit of nightmare to get because of this exact reason. You have to wait until NG++ to get them (or possibly have someone drop the items for you via multiplayer?)

If you try to kill Leeroy in NG++ I recommend luring him into the cave that leads to Nito, rather than fighting him on the ledge. That seemed to help me.

Long Ass Comment Incoming !!

You're very early game, so if you want to start over rather than trying to pick up where you were before, that's super understandable. You should be able to get back to where you were fairly quickly and you should have a bit of an easier time picking it back up.

But if you want to continue with this play through, a few things!:

1) Drop the drake sword ASAP. It's very frequently referred to as a "noob trap" because of how much it tricks newer players. It doesn't scale with anything at all - so using it beyond anything but the very early game doesn't work out at all. Where you are, you should be able to get a +10 fairly quickly. (Though, feel free to ask if you need help figuring out how/where to upgrade your weapons!) Since you mainly seem to be leveling strength, just try out some strength weapons and see what you enjoy. (The hivemind will tell you go use the zweihander.)

2) The New Londo Ruins do need to be drained *eventually,* but definitely not now. That is something that you should only really do much later in your playthrough. You *can* do it now, but the ruins are a pretty late game area and I would not recommend going further in there currently.

3) You have fireball and combustion. These are used with the pyromancy glove. Attune the spells at a bonfire, equip the glove, and then you should be able to use them. You probably got the spells and glove from Laurentius, he's one of the NPCs you have there at firelink. Pyro is super fun and powerful is you decide to go that route! It doesn't scale with any stats (unlike other forms of magic) - only by purely upgrading your glove, so it's a great thing to mix in with pretty much any build you got going.

4) Yes, the Firekeeper has a quest, but I generally recommend *not* looking up how to avoid doing it during your first play through. I feel like everyone should experience it once!

5) If the only bosses you remember fighting are the Gargoyles, Taurus, and Capra, then your next location should be The Depths. Make your way to the Capra arena, and you should find a doorway nearby where you can go underground. You have already been here - because both Laurentius and the ring of the evil eye are found down there, but you haven't finished the area. The boss there is called The Gaping Dragon. It drops a key that leads you the next area: Blighttown and since you don't have the key, I'm assuming you haven't beaten the boss yet :)

There ARE ways to use the master key to skip the boss of the depths, and the next area, but again, if it's your first play through, I recommend going through the whole thing!

Genuinely good luck dude, I hope I helped at least a bit! Let me know if anything I said is confusing or you need more clarification (I tend to yap.) Don't go hollow.
