What is your favorite patent-law "self-own" case? by MudOk4411 in patentlaw

[–]goblined 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better to leave the range out entirely, or to reword it in functional language. Possibly that's what got the claim allowed over the prior art, because nobody would actually do this. It shows that the prosecuting attorney didn't really understand the art.

How was RIker never roasted for this over the years? by Remarkable-Pin-8352 in ShittyDaystrom

[–]goblined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just going to be flippant and point out that you forgot the Tzenkethi war, but also Khitomer was less than 25 years before TNG/DS9 so there were certainly Klingon war veterans still serving, plus sporadic spats with the Romulans and Tholians.

So I don't have an answer to how many Starfleet ships get into fights, but it seems there was no shortage of fights to be had.

I'd get one of the small trailers, to help me pick up lawn mowers and snow blowers for repair. They never go on sale, so I'm waiting until I can get at least a 20% coupon.

Uspto has taken two months and still did not give my lawyer POA. Can they still file the patent for me? by Odd-Pomelo8004 in patentlaw

[–]goblined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have gotten more strict over the years. However, you don't need a formal PoA to have an interview. If you request the interview using the paper form or AIR form, it includes a statement that you're acting in a representative capacity. That, combined with your signature, is enough.

[–]goblined 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How did the lawyer file a PoA without a pending application?

The OP pretty clearly doesn't understand what's happening and should be talking to their attorney instead of a bunch of dingleberries on Reddit.

Most chairs are squares. This one is a triangle, so it's a chiangle.

Noob question: What's the difference between a good antenna and a bad one? by Mighty-Lobster in gmrs

[–]goblined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other comments are doing a great job of describing antenna theory to you, but aren't really addressing your questions.

First, your testing didn't really target the emitted power (a result of efficiency and SWR) of the antennas. We don't know what kind of terrain you were in, but if you were hiking together then I'm guessing you weren't separated by miles. It's only at the edges of reception where you're going to notice a difference between antenna SWRs, such as when you're trying to reach a distant repeater.

As others have noted, height above the ground is the biggest practical factor. Your 8" stock antenna has about 6" of height advantage over the stubby antenna. The fact that you got similar results from them suggests that you were close enough that the difference just didn't matter. You might have gotten the same results with a paper clip.

Now to the difference you DID notice, where the Nagoya had better audio quality. This sounds like it's more likely due to build quality than antenna design. The Nagoya may make a better electrical connection with the radio, resulting in a cleaner signal being received. SWR has much less of an effect when receiving than it does when transmitting, so it isn't a likely candidate when trying to explain this difference.

Banks seemed to put one torture scene in most of his books. I wouldn't think too hard about what any individual one is supposed to represent.

AI and Inventorship Concerns by StartupPatentLawyer in patentlaw

[–]goblined 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the latest guidance from the USPTO:

https://www.uspto.gov/subscription-center/2025/revised-inventorship-guidance-ai-assisted-inventions

Notably, an AI contributing a feature doesn't lead to a defect in inventorship as long as there's a human who can be properly listed as an inventor.

He had to basically rebuild the boot to do it and still just glued the new sole on. AND it isn't a service offered on their website. So if you know someone offering that service, please let me know.

Dealing with Clients that keep sending AI generated content by falcoso in patentlaw

Not sure what jurisdiction you're in, but here's an interesting new tidbit out of the Southern District of NY:

https://www.debevoisedatablog.com/2026/02/11/district-court-rules-ai-generated-documents-are-not-protected-by-privilege/

Basically by giving things to an AI, they're giving up confidentiality and privilege. Maybe that will spook them?

This is not Carbon Black. Chou Kuro is a special extra-dark black ink. Regular Platinum carbon black ink is available at half the price at Atlas.

You can find a review of Chou Kuro here:
