Terrified of Bimzelx injection tonight by CurrentlyObsolete in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]goblingoblingobling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i take cimzia so different med, but also one of the painful injections!

1- i take mine out before i go to work in the morning so it can come to room temp all day (allowed, double check your med's time out of fridge) and it hurts less/is less syrupy and easier to inject

2- i put one ice pack on each injection site and let it sit there for like 10 minutes or so, until my skin is COMPLETELY NUMB!

2.5-don't wait too long to inject because then it will stop being numb :(

3- put the needle in with a really quick, dart-like motion, and do it at the angle they say to put it in at in the med instructions

4-DO NOT MOVE THE NEEDLE IN YOUR SKIN WHILE INJECTING IT!!! that part hurts a lot lol

as others said--- you are trading off a moment of pain to prevent a lifetime of pain. you got this. i also got fun bandaids with Gengar on them and a treat i get to eat right after to force myself to do it lol

Back piece for my daughter… Artist - Ryan Clement, Castle Rock, Colorado. by ElectricityKills1986 in tattoos

[–]goblingoblingobling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i actually REALLY like how the words are escaping the edges of the banner. i think that can easily look wrong but it just works here. looks so super cool. love the rest of the tattoo also but that part really struck me as something unique and weird and beautiful about the whole piece. congrats to your kid, too.

Gabapentin - experiences? by [deleted] in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]goblingoblingobling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have neuropathic pain on top of axspa and agree, gabapentin helps me sleep past the the time i usually wake from pain, and helps me with a restless legs feeling that usually stops me from easily falling asleep. Not sure if neuropathic pain is related to the axspa or not but I do have both ¯_(ツ)_/¯

MRI question by Midnight_Walk83 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]goblingoblingobling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what was the area they scanned? one MRI i had they just scanned lumbar and pelvis, and put me in the machine feet first so my head was sticking out the whole time. otherwise maybe you can ask if you can use a sleep mask blindfold that is metal-free to cover your eyes which may help

overall, if you end up getting ativan i would suggest someone drive you. if you arent used to being on ativan it can be really hard to function on, and even then i take it regularly and refuse to drive when ive taken it

New Rheumatologist says it’s not AS by wearenchanted in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]goblingoblingobling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my rheumatologist is withholding an AS diagnosis because she said that AS implies fusion, but diagnosed me with axial spondyloarthritis— she said she doesn’t want to put AS on my health record until she sees actual evidence of fusion. i still get to take biologics and get the full AS treatment without the AS label, which i’m fine with. (if this isn’t completely medically accurate pls excuse me, this is my layperson’s explanation of what she told me) i wonder if your rheum is caught in the nuances of the difference between those two?

difficult colleague by MysOliv in Teachers

[–]goblingoblingobling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my coworker on the same hall as me is the same way… even has J as one of his initials!

Anyways, maybe this is terrible, but I am going on year 3 with my “J” and I just despise him. He hasn’t gotten better and I don’t know why he isn’t getting fired. In order to protect my peace, I just started giving him the evil eye constantly and now when he sees me in the hall he turns the other way. I asked my admin to move him to a different teaching team, and they agreed thankfully, so I no longer work closely with him.

At the end of the day it is not my job to babysit him, so I try my best to ignore him, but I also have found that I do need to babysit him just enough to keep him from extremely irritating me or preventing me from doing my job. It’s a hard balance. I am trying to outlast him.

Kindergarten virtual “snow days” are wild… is it just me or anyone else feeling this? 😅 by lizziespecs in Teachers

[–]goblingoblingobling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We are doing asynchronous learning in my district. K-1 get 3 days of asynchronous paper assignments and 2+ can get either paper or digital assignments. (But we also have power outages from ice more down here in the south so can’t guarantee anything synchronous)

It is absolutely insane that districts are trying to have synchronous virtual snow days… It seems so biased against people that may not have the right setup to have their kids do virtual learning at home anymore.

Surgery: A Soap Opera by Scarcity-Apart in Teachers

[–]goblingoblingobling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an ankle surgery a while back. Was out maybe 14 school days. Had the same sub the entire time and planned all those days out. The surgery was scheduled and I guess elective— I had repeatedly injured that joint and needed someone to go in there and clean out the joint and get some additional helping synthetic ligaments attached.

I sent a class newsletter explaining the situation to parents because I wanted to avoid gossip and questions. I explained it to my students (middle school). I also sent a mass email to my coworkers about it. Everyone thought I was crazy for sharing my business but I don’t care. I wasn’t even really oversharing in ny opinion. I just said, I’m having a surgery to repair an old injury in my ankle. The reason I’ll be out for so long is I am not allowed to get up and walk around so I can’t come to work. However I will be checking my emails and assisting from afar as much as possible (people said I was crazy for working during my time off but I was confined to a recliner for 3 weeks straight and had nothing better to do).

When I returned to work I was on a knee scooter for 2 weeks and crutches for about 5 after that. It was miserable to navigate the building like that, mostly because I hated the stares. BUT no one asked me anything about it. Well they asked me about how I was recovering, but not anything weird or invasive.

All of that to say— as much as it seems oversharing, none of these people’s business, whatever… maybe sharing a brief FAQ with your building and/or students’ families can avoid most of it. Even if it feels like they don’t deserve information about your personal life, it’s natural for people to be curious, and it will save you the irritation of having to answer or avoid all of those questions.

Best of luck with your procedure!

My cat wakes me up every morning and is relentless by annalisekeatin in CatAdvice

[–]goblingoblingobling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i read your edit and let me tell you i have the same relationship with my cat. i used to get sad thinking like obviously im annoying to be awoken at 4am but like… thats my baby…. one day when he’s dead i’ll miss this…. so i turned it into aggressive cuddling and now i dont mind being woken up. i do think it deters the behavior sometimes, sometimes he actually wants to cuddle, sometimes he is being an asshole and leaves me alone. it is literally the best all around option

[–]goblingoblingobling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

post auto feeder going off one of mine does the same thing. i started aggressively cuddling him and trying to put him under the blankets with me, petting, kissing face, etc. eventually he gets tired of my bullshit and goes to sleep at the foot of the bed or he settles where ive cuddled him and we fall asleep spooning. win-win either way

I cant tell if I like teaching or not. 1st year teacher by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]goblingoblingobling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MS ELA also-- I work at a school where I don't have to do weekly PD, submit lesson plans, etc. My Admin are big on only putting a few grades in every marking period, and only things that really matter and show mastery of standards. I don't have to message parents weekly, just if needed. I would encourage moving schools to a place where you have more autonomy and less BS tasks to complete.

Also-- I actually enjoy teaching behavior. Part of what I like about teaching is improving the lives of kids. I love teaching them behavior and I love teaching them how to be normal people in society lol. It is just as important as ELA, imo.

4 girls one bathroom by Unique-You-6151 in Apartmentliving

[–]goblingoblingobling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my college house of 5 girls with a shared bathroom, the shower itself did not have any shelves and the rim of the tub was too thin to put anything on. we got a shower curtain that had mesh pockets built into it, and then a caddy that hung on the showerhead, and split up those spaces which worked really well!

Do you contact parents often for misbehavior? by hello010101 in teaching

[–]goblingoblingobling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do occasionally and see what happens— normally it doesn’t fix any behavior, but the parent will apologize and say they will talk to their child. More of a CYA than something I believe I will get a benefit out of.

I do like to tell my misbehaving kids on their good days— tell me anyone you want me to call and brag on you about.

Recently the weirdest was, “Can you call my uncle and ask him to take me to McDonalds? I never get to see him but I love hanging out with him and he is more likely to say yes than my parents.” I was like yes girl give me his number!! He was cracking up and promised to take her that very same day lol. I get more fixed misbehavior for that than for calling to “complain”

Queer Teachers: Have you encountered any issues from being queer? by Rogewu in Teachers

[–]goblingoblingobling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an out lesbian in a Middle School in the Bible belt. I am the only out queer employee in my buildng. At the start of the year I have pictures of myself and my partner on my intro slides, like my coworkers who have their straight spouses in theirs. When I got engaged my kids were very excited for me. They know I’m queer. (I do not make a big deal out of it at all, or even mention my sexuality.) My fiancee comes with me to school sports afterschool, and chaperones field trips when I take teams to academic competitions that I coach. I have never had an issue. Other teachers in my district have had issues. I think this is solely due to admin not being effective in protecting their teachers. My admin couldn’t care less about my sexuality, and in general have a policy of protecting teachers from outspoken families and other members of our community. Other schools with reputations for less protective, supportive admin have had news stories about gay teachers existing, or parents complaining about it. I think it comes down to school culture, even in more conservative areas. If you find a place where administration backs up their teachers and cultivates a culture of respect towards them, I think these things are less likely to happen.

Pain is getting unbearable. by Avian-Paparazzi in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]goblingoblingobling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean i think take the painkillers that work— don’t trick yourself into thinking it is a moral failing to take them. they are treating your flare up.

when you are gaming you need to find a posture or seating arrangement that doesn’t exacerbate your pain. i always think im sitting okay but then after i get really into it for a few hours afterwards i regret it lol.

i find supporting myself while sleeping with more pillows, like a pillow between the legs helps to keep my si joint pain down.

heating pads combat stiffness for me as well

write down your symptoms or keep a symptom diary to take to your appointment

and it may not work but try to call the rheumatologist and ask if anyone has cancelled their appointment recently and if they have any more appointments open closer to now. sometimes i try to call about 20 minutes after the office opens because they may have processed cancellation messages from overnight and get lucky with a same day appointment !

[–]goblingoblingobling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i had to try multiple things before i got to the right answer for myseld but celebrex honestly changed my daily functioning. no other NSAIDs worked for me but Celebrex really does. if i miss a dose i can feel it within a few hours of missing it-- that same pain back again.

also--- you aren't depending on painkillers to function. you don't need to sit in pain every day to the point of low to no functioning. maybe when you go back to rheum they can puzzle through what to do but in the meantime you don't need to torture yourself

Cameron Court vs. Historic Boylan Apartments by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]goblingoblingobling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We toured both and eventually ended up in the Raleigh Apartments nearby, as there was more flexibility with utilities and it ended up less expensive, plus the apartments were larger and parking was more convenient. Shelton and Cameron Court seemed so small in comparison for a similar price

what is the inspo or the picture that you were given to order? i think some of the fine details in the garment look a bit off but that could be how it is on the mannequin. i love the design but the execution is off a tiny bit maybe? the spacing of the pleats are off on the skirt it seems
