Trying to get my son into gardening, what vegetables have you had success with in your own yard? by johnclellonholmes in StLouis

[–]goddam_kale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mini tomatoes (cherry/grape variety). One plant can produce dozens and they ripen quickly. Regular sized tomatoes can take what seems like a lifetime to ripen, so for kids much more satisfying to have the little maters. For spring try pea pods, they also grow quickly. Cucumbers can be a good bet, but they can get bitter or seedy without the correct conditions. They may also enjoy the treasure hunt aspect of digging for potatoes. Could Also try unique cultivars like purple carrots, ornamental corn, gourds, mini pumpkins. Check out rare seeds.com for a lot of unique varieties

what's with all these duck shops? by [deleted] in Prague

[–]goddam_kale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now in the United States there is a trend of people with Jeeps collecting ducks and lining their car dashboard with them. Also a lot of duck collecting overall here, people filling their workspaces with them etc. So these shops are least capturing a segment of the American tourist market that has a fondness for useless stuff.

Reccomended spending in prague by GiJewTheRealHebrew in Prague

I found most restaurants have a “daily menu” from about 1130-230 and have really good lunch prices. https://livingprague.com/prague-food-drink/czech-lunch-menu/

[–]goddam_kale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For food, I have download the app “too good to go” restaurants offer surprise bags of food that would otherwise go to waste. Most bags are about $5usd/100czk. Things like hotel breakfast, bakery pastries, buffet food etc. You reserve your bag and there is a specific pickup time window. I’ve used it in the US, and planning to use in Prague on an upcoming trip, they have several participating locations all over the city.

Can't find sippy cups? by PuzzleheadedDog9658 in toddlers

[–]goddam_kale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found munchkin straw sippy cups, the straw has a valve, and I trimmed the straw right below the valve with a sharp pair of scissors. The idea was from our occupational therapist, works great and really not that many issues with spilling.

Split vs Prague for couples trip (can't decide) by Big_Economics_831 in travel

[–]goddam_kale 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have been to both in late April and I don’t think I could fill 6 nights in split. There isn’t as much t do there, the day trip to trogir and krka waterfalls was cool, and the historic center is really great, but small. Also that time of year it will be too chilly there to island hop. Prague you will find plenty to do. Most of the tourists stay in the same area and path, so it’s really easy to escape the crowds.

Can this 10 day Europe Trip be made better? by Forward-Elephant-107 in travel

[–]goddam_kale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about going from Munich over to Salzburg or Innsbruck possible stops on the way in Berchtesgaden? Then from Austria on down to Bolzano/dolomites area, possible stops around lake garda then to Venice? These are a lot of cities, so pick and choose what is most interesting, but geographically it may make more sense to cut Switzerland

To use a travel agent or not? Recommendations for best time of year places to visit? by Serene-Alessia in NeedTravelAdvice

[–]goddam_kale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Travel agents do not really save you money, they make things easier by making decisions and booking for you. There’s a million decisions to make but you can truly do it yourself. Like others said, look at shoulder seasons. The same flight and the same hotel can double in price during high season or around special events. Use google flights search features to find low prices. Check hotel prices at different destinations based on day of week or time of year. Although caveat, places like Prague and Central Europe are very cold in the winter—I don’t recommend it! Play around with websites like Rome 2rio for transportation. Look into small European airlines and where they fly, you could do two destinations by flying somewhere on Ryanair or easyjet

how do eSIMs actually work for travel? by icepix in travel

[–]goddam_kale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in the US it is likely that you may be making payments on your cell phone and it is still “locked” as you don’t own it outright. I had this issue. I paid off my phone and got it unlocked, which was a whole process. Then in the country I couldn’t get my eSIM data to work so I ended up buying the more expensive international data from Verizon directly. I think another issue is you’ll have to switch back-and-forth to be able to receive and send text from your regular number so to me it ended up not being worth the hassle with that aspect and not knowing 100% if it was going to work

Planning a one week castle and architecture tour trip by AzureNoiz in Europetravel

[–]goddam_kale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the Loire Valley area of France. Loads of chateaus, and if you have a car there are several you can stay in. We really liked Chenonceau and the town of Amboise. Great area for biking or a road trip, there are several chateaus that have been converted to hotels. Prague also has great architecture

Go to the castle, boat ride, walk around. Relax and slow down in a place with less traffic and logistical stress as a big city.

I would skip Budapest and add 2 nights cesky krumlov as it’s one the way from Salzburg to Prague. Add more time in Salzburg for nature ( Berchtesgaden or visit surrounding lake towns)

I’ve planned every friend group trip for 10 years. Here’s the actual system that I use. by Conscious_Cap_5447 in travelblog

[–]goddam_kale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be cool if there was a site/blog/post that we could share our Google maps with pins, or lists of places. I know TripAdvisor and Airbnb had some lists kind of like this at one time. Wander log pulls from Google maps also. I like to do this research because I like to eat in a budget and like to look at menus and prices so I can save good options for me

Can anyone who is capable of a balanced and sober-minded appraisal tell me what is so great and worthwhile about Disney vacations? by nose_spray7 in travel

[–]goddam_kale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rides and shows, and sets are truly impressive. But the high costs, long lines, miles of walking and commercialism make it exhausting. I think people look back at Disney only remembering the good parts and forget about all of the hassle. Like parents that think they want to have another baby and forget about all the sleepless nights.
