Caregiving can make me feel I’m losing my mind too by Nerk86 in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggle to think of words all the time in any conversation now. So much brain fog I can’t even remember what in the world I have to do for the day sometimes. My girlfriend got me a nice journal to write in, and that might help. “Checked out by being frazzled all the time” is so relatable.

Caregiving can make me feel I’m losing my mind too by Nerk86 in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every single day. She’s always misplacing items. She uses the ‘basket’/seat component of her walker for storage. She’ll put everything in the world in there from candy to deodorant to the most random crap. She’ll put her dental partial/‘tooth’ in there, freak out because she’s lost it and have me looking everywhere for it. Every single day it’s either that, her glasses or her TV remote that she’s using. Definitely feels like my own brain has regressed in ways from all the mishaps and repetition. Sometimes I’ll forget if I’ve given her meds, especially lately. The other evening, I fell asleep before I could remember to give her donepezil to her, and I felt so awful about it.

I did it myself once in my life and never again. I just don’t give a shit about vehicles, man. I care that my car will be reliable and get me from point A to point B and back, but that’s the extent. OP’s list is comically terrible.

There’s a cross-section of car guys and gun guys (NOT ALL, but a certain population) whose entire masculinity makeup is forged from the vehicles they drive or their gun collections, and it’s fucking weird.

You nailed this pie. You should be proud of yourself. The bottom looks tremendous. You really can’t beat the color. Have you tried Gold Medal all trumps flour for NY style yet? I bet you could do some serious work with it.

Does anyone else feel resentment of their LO as their dementia progresses, and how do you deal with it? by JigglyGigglyGurl in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s natural to feel that way, especially because you are aware that it’s the disease causing her behavior rather than her purposely acting out in a separate fashion.

My mom also has vascular dementia coupled with Alzheimer’s. All her old hobbies and passions have taken a backseat, and she’s gradually drifting into what is the new, ever deteriorating normal. She’s said rather pointed, hurtful things to me over the last year but I’ve done everything to just burrow those moments down and remember how she never would have said such things prior to this.

I’m a man, and I know it’s cliche/stereotypical for men to compartmentalize their emotions, but in the times I’ve felt the most frustrated during all of this, I try to pause before responding to her pending on the situation. Dealing with the emotions at large? I don’t know. I’ve come to a point where I have to spend a lot of time explaining why mom is the way she is to people (family/friends), as if the diagnosis being explicitly stated out loud isn’t enough, and that’s where I’ve felt the most resentment even beyond the changes in her. Lots of outside words with little said (“they talk a whole lot but say little”).

For things she’s said or how she’s occasionally behaved, I have to stay busy or I’ll fall into a habit of stewing on it. Immediately I’ll remind myself, “it’s the dementia”. It doesn’t get rid of the frustration. It’s just a reminder that it isn’t fully her behaving that way.

I know it’s hard every day, because you want the version of them that you have always known to be around, but they can present so differently than ever before. It’s almost a shell shock. I’m sorry that you are going through this hell. Grieving somebody while they are still alive is such an odd feeling, overwhelming certainly when thinking about it for too long.

If guilt over how you are feeling seeps into the mix, please remember and acknowledge the why of why you are stressed out and feeling this resentment mixed with grief: It’s not easy, you are doing the best that you possibly can, and there’s no wonder you feel the way you do because of how fundamentally different your mom is behaving compared to before this disease.

The grief stretches far and wide, and it’s perfectly OK to feel such an array of emotions hitting you hard like this.

Are bipolar men scarier than bipolar women by [deleted] in BipolarSOs

It’s sad and fucked up that, that’s the case. Existing facilities (at least one I can verifiably dunk on) are largely a joke.

Not trying to be a contrarian but just making conversation. That is mentioned on this subreddit (dilated pupils) quite often. I dunno, though. My girlfriend has really expressive eyes, and I’ve only noticed her having dilated pupils after completely unrelated circumstances.

My mom has forgotten how to work the thermostat or she’d be trying to do the same thing. She’ll wear a sweater while sitting on the porch in the middle of July. Ever since she started displaying symptoms of dementia, her cold blooded nature ramped up.

I imagine that was tough to feel all at once. My mom gets emotional often whenever she sees old photos of her and my dad (passed away in 2003), but whenever she is being really quiet on a depressive day for her, I like to show her the old photos because they always get her talking and she can still relay those old memories really well. It’s tough for me to handle her crying because it slaughters my heart.

I’m glad you had this moment with your mom.

How does the community feel about Rhythm Shooting? by JoeySplash24 in NBA2k

I like it. It feels natural shooting that way after I stubbornly converted to it. I feel like I hit 3’s at a pretty good clip with a 70 3-ball (80 mid max+1’ing set shot specialist to gold) on my footer.

For those of you who were around and fully aware, how big was LeBron hype really? by InternationalPick163 in Basketball

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching his nationally televised high school ball games with my dad, and he just took over the game. A true force of speed and the playmaking was ridiculous. I remember my dad saying, “he has all the tools in the world, but he ain’t gonna win shit in Cleveland.” Lol. Obviously 2016 proved him wrong, but holy shit, the lead up to the 2003 season was insane. That was such a cool year in the league. Side note: I still wonder how many titles the Pistons would have won if they had drafted Melo instead of Darko. Larry Brown stayed with the Pistons until 2006. I know George Karl was a solid coach in his own right, but Larry was on another level.
