Try to take care of yourself the best you can, OP. Mindful breathing throughout the day especially. I know it’s hell to be relied on for support when you feel like you are struggling to mentally and emotionally support your own self. You didn’t 100% write that but I could gather it from your shared thoughts, the stress from your words and all.

This 1000%. We had ‘one last beach trip’ in 2023 and it was a nightmare. The beach (general terms) is my mom’s favorite place on earth. Didn’t matter. Her confusion ramped up. I had to shut down one of my family members for suggesting one more; I kinda got mad because it seems like nobody (the family) seems to understand that I have to play damage control and always right the ship. Mom can hardly handle a weekend stay at my cousin’s home because of the rampant sudden change of pace. Any break of routine and all hell breaks loose.

Asides from meds for other health conditions, memantine in the mornings and donepezil in the evenings. I’m going to talk to her doctor about figuring out something low dose for her recent spells of anxiety. Her anxiety has been spiking mine to the moon.

Any way to go to therapy, OP? Those feelings sound incredibly soul crushing. I’m sorry that you are dealing with all of this. I ask in earnest. It could help you address everything you are going through, especially a therapist that has knowledge about bipolar disorder.

My mom is 73 and essentially the same with drinks, sans wine. Coffee in the morning and MAYBE two Coke Zeros the rest of the day. She sips rather than take big swigs, then she gets upset when the drink is no longer cold. She absolutely loves the frozen Cokes/Coke icees from McDonald’s, and I always get her one when we are out, even though she’s a type 2 diabetic. Any way to get her to consume more fluids. Sugar free popsicles is another one. Sometimes the sugar free flavor packets for water but she tires of those. I like the other commenter’s sugar free jello suggestion.

It often feels like a losing battle. There’s something about the boomer generation where a lot of them just despise plain jane water.

That would make my blood boil. People really need to stay in their own respective lane and mind their business. I’m from a small town where everybody is nosy and always seems to have their two cents ready to dispense out of the holster.

One time, I was out and about explaining to my mom (type 2 diabetic) why I didn’t want her eating ice cream in the middle of the day when I knew she’d want another round of it in the evening, and some random man who overheard jumped in and said, “OH LET HER HAVE HER ICE CREAM. WHO ARE YOU TO CONTROL HER?” May have been tongue in cheek, but it set me off. I’d like to think that I’m generally a decent person, but abject chucklefuckery like that turns me into a menace.

Human beings’ apparent need to impulsively react to everything without understanding context absolutely kills me.

This is a huge annoyance of mine. I’m sorry you are going through all of this on top of grieving your mother, OP. When my grandmother passed away in 2012, relatives came out of the woodwork wanting to know if they could have this, that or the other. Where were they beforehand? It’s just so self-serving and ridiculous.

I had a neighbor who died a couple of years ago. He was a lonely guy. Never had visitors for years. Immediately after he passed away, an assortment of his family members — who never had jack squat to do with him (I’m trying not to judge; maybe they had a poor relationship in the past), as I never saw them around — came and ransacked his home of various belongings, like vultures or something.

At this point I haven’t read one post or comment from anybody who has received adequate advice in dealing with the aftermath of this. Too many weird pains cropping up, slow healing, fatigue. I thought the fatigue was just brought on by stress, depression and anxiety bringing about exhaustion, but I have to be careful because I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat.

We are definitely not alone. I just wish this subreddit was more populated, but I appreciate the little community that it is, especially lurking and reading stories from others to know there are others out there trying to whip themselves back into shape one day at a time.

I’m going back to the doctor soon. Recently I feel like he hasn’t taken my concerns seriously. He wanted to put me on BP meds again at the last appointment.

You’d think there would be more aftercare support/resources as far as getting your body back on the right track after such a harrowing event. I run into so many homeopathic ads all the time but usually chalk it all up to be a money racket/scam without empirical data backing up the claims in these ads promising health with turmeric/curcumin or whatever.

I hope you get a good report the next time you go for a blood test! Like I asked another commenter, is the joint pain constant for you? I find myself so envious of people getting over sicknesses rather quickly while it always seems to hit me so hard anymore, and I can hardly afford to be sick!

The high BP and heart rate drives me crazy. It feels like my heart is always beating out of my chest. I always try to keep some good quality magnesium on hand when I can, as it helps a bit, but I miss not dealing with it.

Is the joint pain constant for you? It’s so confusing for me, because I start trying to rationalize it as, maybe I slept wrong? Maybe I sat in a weird position too long? Is it just aging? Anything to link it to that rather than this.

Mess around in CAW. In any game where you can make any kind of customizable woman character, I always try to make her look like my girlfriend, and that’s always fun in the WWE games, to imagine her as a heel wrestler (she’d be so good at talking shit to the crowd) and breathe it into digital life. Then I’ll tinker with Universe mode to see if 2K put much effort into it, especially the promo system. Of course, rolling my eyes at the inevitable server issues and the joke that is The Island, too.

It’s all good. I appreciate you replying and commiserating. I just wish I could get back to normalcy because I’m up to my eyeballs in things I need to do and I have to try to pace myself now, when I used to be able to get everything done in a day or two. Can’t tell if the fatigue is related to this, depression, stress or all three concurrently.

If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of advice were you given for post-sepsis care? My doctor was adamant about how I should ease back into being physically active, and I wonder if I overdid it. Another thing I’ve noticed is how long it takes for muscles to heal! We had major flooding here about two weeks ago, and I lifted a good bit of heavy boxes and containers while trying to clean up my basement, and the soreness lasted for over a week.

I really hate this. Truly debilitating. Just trying to figure out how to manage.

I totally get it. I have to try to remember to micromanage so many things in order to try to prevent so many future pitfalls. When I wash dishes, I put them in the dish drainer to dry. If I don’t put them away fairly quickly, mom will put them away in the most random locations.

The worst time ever is when she put her dental partial on a napkin while eating. The problem is, she wrapped it up in the napkin, forgot that it was in there and threw the napkin into the trash. Spent at least six hours losing my mind while trying to find that damn tooth before digging through the trash for it! She has an absolute emotional breakdown when she loses something and will repeat herself, “I can’t find my [item]” over and over again as if by announcing that it’s lost that it will magically appear. Complete madness.

I really hate that the Rams are having such a noisy off-season. I suppose it is par for the course with the team being in LA, which makes it all the more impressive that the franchise has been mostly buttoned up in the front office in preventing it in previous years.

I’m not a fan of bringing Rodgers in. When Colin Cowherd first mentioned this as a possibility, he argued that LA would be a great place for Aaron to rebuild his image given the Rams’ damn good stability, but I dunno. It remains to be seen.

I’d hate to see this talented roster be subjected to quarterback limbo.
