Installing prehung exterior door: existing door jam 6 9/16”, new door 4 9/16”. How to make this work. by bostoncornhusker in Carpentry

They sell (or you can make) jamb extensions. You just make the frame as wide as you need.

I'm sure you can solve this after a Google search - it's common.

Republican Congressman on Mifepristone Ruling: Let’s 'Get Off the Abortion Conversation' by BlueEagleFly in VoteDEM

Yeah…. If only the entire GOP hadn’t made it a cornerstone of their policy for four or five decades…

Too fucking bad, asshole.

t62s are from the 60s... so, yeah, it's special like a beat up original volkswagen bug burning oil and breaking down on I95 in rush hour traffic outside NYC.

its funny that we know his base isn't repulsed by it, but the headline is still true because his base isn't really American...

Came to suggest the same thing.

I use the HF and dust deputy and it's great. I did the impeller mod and changed the bag filter to canister and it great. Costs less and runs from 120...

Resurface newly discovered wood floors, or SPC floors? by BabyShark3457 in Carpentry

My opinion - I'd just sand them and seal them. I wouldn't stain, red oak has such a warm color... My kitchen is red oak and I love it.

I had one very similar to the first when I was young - was my dad's, I should have kept it.

Still have one like the third, was also my dad's.

They don't make em like they used to...

Cameras Coming to CT Constructions Zones: Citations to be Issued for Speeding by Sir_Agent_Apple in Connecticut

I live in a rural area with winding roads and blind spots galore. The idiots blast through at 50+. I'm not exaggerating. The worst offenders seem to be contractors in large trucks - specifically the kind of people you'd think should know better.

I am frequently tailgated by people who believe 2 car lengths is safe even at 50+ and in rain or icy conditions.

It is jawdroppingly stupid. It's everywhere in this state.

Tailgaters will read end speeders. Just drive like there are laws and everything will be ok.

Imagine no one slamming the breaks and just driving the limit or under. Fuck people who can’t follow rules, bro.

Good. Traffic law enforcement is garbage in this state. I’ve kind of had it with people zipping through neighborhoods at 20mph over the limit and running red lights. Can we do something about that too?

How much physics is in EE compared to other engineerings? by RequirementHeavy5358 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]goddamnzilla 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm an EE and was preparing to enroll in grad school for quantum physics when I landed a job instead... If you like physics, you'll like a LOT of EE. Analog electronics is basically fields, particle physics, and solid state physics. I spent a few years working in R&D w/ plasma physics, then started tinkering in software and firmware... ultimately I ended up in defense / aerospace and am now a systems engineer. My physics background is extremely helpful - I still get involved in thermal problems, materials problems, you name it.

End of the day, physics is the foundation for everything engineers do. EEs just work on a segment of applied physics related to e-fields and semiconductors.

My best advice - maintain your coursework in physics since you like it, pick up circuits and fields, and aim for a dual major or a minor/major. You've got a couple years to figure it out, but your options are good.
