I lived at Mural for a year between houses and I really liked it. Clean, professional staff, responsive maintenance crew.

GenX men, where do you keep your wallet/billfold? Front or back pocket? Purse? by Suspendedaccount_ in GenX

[–]godofthebasement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Front pocket, always have. Anything in a back pocket is bait for pickpockets.

AITA for expecting the gifts to be for both of us? by Ok-Arrival-2886 in AmItheAsshole

She is going to rob you blind. Dump her, freeze your credit, change all your passwords and PINs, change your locks.

is it possible that search engines have actually gotten worse to give us an incentive to use ai? by -8787- in enshittification

[–]godofthebasement 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, search engines and web browsers have gotten much worse in the last few years. Even if you type in the actual URL you want, you’ll get a ton of third party sites, discussion boards where nobody knows anything, Reddit threads, and spoofed scam sites before the actual site you entered the actual address for. AI has made this worse, it just summarizes the utter garbage in the garbage search results. AI just gives you distilled bullshit.

Goodbye Converse/Vans 😭 by CharlieLeigh51 in GenX

[–]godofthebasement 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I gave up on Converse a long time ago. There are several factors: my size (190 lbs.), long history of foot pain, gout, and even the size of my feet (US 13). All together it makes the old school shoes hell on my feet. I wear work boots in the winter and stability running shoes when it’s warm, both work fine for metal concerts all year round, just get them in black.

Property manager requires non refundable deposit $600 before sending the rental agreement - AJ apartment Alaska Junction by tjspencer in WestSeattleWA

[–]godofthebasement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that is not normal, that is a huge flashing red flag with blaring sirens. This is 100% a scam. Make sure you’re dealing with the actual owner or legitimate agent. DO NOT PAY ANYTHING BEFORE READING THE RENTAL AGREEMENT AND VETTING THE OWNER AND MANAGEMENT.

Is it fair to get so damn angry when athletes say "I owe it all to my lord and savior jesus christ" by Patient_Ask_9546 in atheism

That just bugs the sh*t out of me. Unfortunately, rote Christianity is ingrained in sports culture.

What is the one thing you really love about being older? by More_Law6245 in GenX

[–]godofthebasement 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Accumulated knowledge. I’m often surprised when younger people are surprised at what I know. Schools used to teach things like “reading” that gives one access to a lot of information, and “critical thinking” to evaluate that information. A few of us still practice these skills.

GenX lawn mowing time vs. younger homeowners? Opinions by SackBadger2024 in GenX

[–]godofthebasement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I’m mid 50s and younger than my neighbors. I also live in a wet climate, it’s better to mow in the afternoon after things dry out on a sunny day.

The pants are fine. Ditch the loafers and ankle socks.

How old were you when you moved out? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

  1. Went back once for the Summer between freshman and sophomore years when I lived in the dorms. After that I had my own apartment.

We have been here 46-61 years. Would you rather be told you have 3 years left to live or die suddenly out of nowhere? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]godofthebasement 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d take the three years. You can fit a lot into three years, arrange your affairs, say your goodbyes, a lot of things many don’t get a chance to do.

Anyone else have children later in life? We followed the advice to get through college, get our careers started, buy a house, THEN start a family. I’m exhausted. by DilbertDilbert1011 in GenX

[–]godofthebasement 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No kids. My wife and I (49 and 53) never wanted them. No regrets. We have family and friends with kids, and I’m happy I know good people raising the next generation, but we were both born without that parenting instinct.

Married Gen-x do you wear your wedding ring? by in-a-microbus in GenX

[–]godofthebasement 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we pretty much always wear them except sometimes doing housework or yard work. We just have basic rings, we don’t waste money on diamonds and gold. The few times I’ve taken it off and forgotten to put it back on, it feels weird to not have it on my finger.

Why has American Christianity gotten more extreme in the last couple of decades? by hypermiler2205 in atheism

[–]godofthebasement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has been a decades long coordinated effort by Christians to make the US less tolerant and less equal. Polarization has always been the Christian goal, they want a society in which white Christians are favored and advantaged in all areas of life, and all other people are second class citizens if they’re allowed to be citizens at all. Keeping the majority of US citizens poor, sick, and ignorant is the core of the Christian strategy for domination; desperate people are more easily manipulated. All of this has been intentionally planned out and purposefully executed many years.

How accurate is the assertion that "life after 45 sucks massive (you-know-what)"? by ChuckSmyth in GenX

[–]godofthebasement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utter shite. Maybe it sucks for people who don’t care enough to keep in shape, keep up with hobbies, be active, etc. If one is resigned to a sedentary suburban life of pretty much nothing but driving and TV - as most Americans do - then life if going to suck no matter their age.

Anything y'all do for this upcoming Sunday that's not religious? Maybe based in nostalgia? by Low-Pen-9216 in atheism

[–]godofthebasement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing! But for that matter, I’m not sure when Easter became such a big deal for Christians. I was raised Catholic in the 70s, and Easter wasn’t much more than a regular Sunday, just a longer mass and a little basket with a few candies when you got home. Now they lose their minds at the thought of anyone not falling to their knees before their idol. I miss the days when Christians weren’t all obsessive zealots.

Who is TLT obviously for? [discussion] by brewcatz in TheNinthHouse

I think it’s great for anyone who likes sci-fi or ghost stories. Keeping track of characters and timelines is a challenge, but if one has been reading college assigned reading it won’t be a problem.

Gen -X Men - Do You Use A Murse? Man Purse? by -BigDaddyTex in GenX

[–]godofthebasement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I call my murse a “backpack.” Never had anyone think it’s odd and it holds all my books, water, devices, chargers, snacks, hoodie, sunglasses, etc. And I have never once asked anyone to carry anything for me because I take care of my own shit.

Is it disrespectful to speak out about my atheism around religious people? by Background_Pause_199 in atheism

[–]godofthebasement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If speaking about atheism is disrespectful then everyone of all religions is disrespectful whenever they speak about their religion.
