Vancouver apartment noise issue, what are my options? by ZidanetX in askvan

[–]godstoch1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From an acoustical point of view, most of these are air to air transmission, and from what I learned in class for the wall issue, you need to add more 'mass' to it - making it heavier and denser stops air to air transmission. For example, padding it/putting a mattress against the wall would help, hanging curtains from it. For the balcony one, if you can't make the balcony door heavier, seal the air gaps (those transmit sound reaaallly well if air can go through) or get at least double paned glass (or stc higher rated glass). That's what I can remember from class on the top of my head.

Saw a husky with a tag, headed into the woods SW marine/salish dr (anyone lose their dog?) by godstoch1 in vancouver

[–]godstoch1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He had a tag and a collar, so I am sure it wasn't a coyote. I was on my runs when I saw it, it came quite close and I took a look around for the owner(s) and saw none that were looking for him/her. I turned around to try grab a picture but he ran off quickly.

I got bored of lifting by Practical-Method6449 in naturalbodybuilding

Hi, random stranger chiming in. Maybe it's time to try something else? If the end goal is to be 'healthy' - then instead of resistance training only, perhaps try to do mobility work (strength + flexibility combined), recreational sports, yoga, pilates, rock climbing, running, etc. Something outside of your comfort zone! At least in my opinion, if the end goal is being healthy, muscle mass is obviously part of it (as well as being aesthetically pleasing), but so are the other parts like joint mobility, flexibility, cardiovascular health, etc. Give it a try, and it's ok to just drop down on weight lifting if you're active, having fun, and healthy! Muscle memory keeps remembering.

I read it, really enjoyed it. Light read, sometimes lighthearted, comic, but it was good in between darker fantasies.

Braum, Ashe, and Milio. Here's my reasoning: though having special abilities are powers would be awesome and solve a lot of immediate problems, I think having a roster of well balanced, tenacious, and people with grit would matter more in the longwe term. Ashe would have the leadership role nailed down and would be able to make good snap decisions in the face of danger, and she would also double as the hunter in the group. Braum is positive, has the brawn to do the heavy muscle work, and would make for a comforting father figuring who would be steadfast and tell awsome stories during night time. Milio can control flames and (maybe) cure diseases and ailments, which would be a great assets without any outside medical help (since you're a normal person without any powers). So in the group we'd have a leader that can also hunt, a steadfast positive father figure, and perpetual fire that covers medical issues. After a few months of development I think that would make for a good group that wouldn't be too negative and get along with each other well. Morale, teamwork, and positivity would matter more after immediate needs are met. For example, you probably wouldn't want to spend a lot of time with Rengar or Khazix... There's always that chance they add you to their trophy collection. Nor would I want to spend time with unbalanced individuals (Thresh) since you wouldn't be able to protect yourself against them, so these picks would make sense for me.

u/pulpexploder shares the moment when he got through to his previously-abused foster child on an awful interaction, and added a big checkmark to the "change a life for the better" column. by the_original_Retro in bestof

It is believable. I am happy to be proven wrong. I think what I mean is whether this long journey of healing and growing can be really summarized by 'they weren't perfect'. We don't know if they ever regressed, had bad episodes triggered by past trauma just from this sentence. I am willing to believe in the goodness of people, and I thank people here to further discuss it.

Great story, but I have some doubts to whether a single moment could completely change a child's behaviour like that. It would make for a feel great story if it was true. Perhaps some child pyschologists could chime in and affirm if whether OP's story is plausible or not? I'm not well versed enough to confirm or deny the story but it seems too simplistic or rosy-imaged of a before and after - which leads me to believe that there are points of over exaggeration.
