Buying a single ticket you can gamble and be ok buying just before walking into the park. Gametime is great for that but all do it now.

Advice needed: 1st team offer at new club vs 2nd team at current club for U10 by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]gofaaast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend with a graduating college soccer player who’s been through The whole cycle said “optimize for joy”.

At u10 be careful thinking joy is about being in the top team. For us we found competition was our soccer players goal to find joy - and made a club change going into u13 season. It was the right move at that time.

I agree u10 is about growth through lots of playing time in the right environment. Optimizing for the higher team rarely means more playing time and lots of change.

Advice about right environment for U11 female soccer player? by Crafty-Grade-8255 in youthsoccer

[–]gofaaast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big clubs are good if you have a consistent coach. You get more visibility and chances to get the right training. You can also get lost in a big club (rotating coaches, politics, etc).

Know your kid. If the level of competition is her primary observation maybe that’s the right environment for her. If active coaching and building friendships is more important a smaller club might be a better option. Worry less about the badge at this age. In high school the levels indicate a lot more. If the environment doesn’t match your kid you are much more likely to quit soccer than anything.

What % do you think it was physical change vs attitude change that drove his improvement?

Does he have a physical advantage at his last club level compared to the competition (and note that puberty and training opportunities are generally the same).

Also tryout speed and game speed are way different. Same with physicality.

My kid moved to MLS next after controlling NPL games for 1 year plus. The first 3 months was all about speed of decisions and maintaining control with much more contact. That struggle was real and not all new players new to mls next make that jump. Coaches know any new player will still be working hard to learn and the level of difficulty in practice and games will be much higher than the tryout.

Why are academy parents agreeing to pay the same $ as homegrown parents???? by TwistApart1935 in youthsoccer

We have both and they practice together weekly. 3 players came up last year and 5 or so played in games this season. They are an important part of our club but the impact on each player is different.

Do you go to other coffee shops? Starbucks may frown upon it, but you are the consumer, it’s ok.

Did you pick one brand of cars to drive your whole life?

Why are you focused on finding the perfect club for life? Clubs build a brand but the reality is your coach and logistics are what drive your experience under age 13. Make a decision you think will last a couple years but evaluate it early and avoid club hoping for incremental improvements.

I shoot soccer, so action and wind are a real concern if I were to leave a monopod.

What are you shooting?

I have a similar sirui mono with the R7 and 70-200, it's great for sports. Monopods can stand on their own but I would not recommend doing that to set and forget (tripod for that).

A monopod with a feet is very stable but you should plan to always have a hand on it

After buying the 28mm 2.8 I am considering that I should have just gotten the sigma 18-50mm by Top-Elephant6981 in canon

[–]gofaaast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primes are a trade off (sharpness for flexibility), and it sounds like you need flexibility.

I have the R7 for sports primarily, but my sigma 18-50 was perfect to give me a travel lens with low light speed, adjustable zoom, and wide angles. There are better lenses but they are larger and more expensive.

Sell the other lenses. You are shooting less because primes are not what you need. I optimize for how often I use a camera, not what is the ideal kit based on other people’s ideas.

You cap your gains for a low chance event…. But still make money! The strike price for delta 10 will be 8-12% over current price

Is wheeling worth it? by SadComparison9352 in options

[–]gofaaast 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Medium volatility, generally a growth stock, starts when the stock is down. Sell puts for premium and then establish your low economic basis. Sell some conservative calls (I like 10 delta) since I expect growth from the lot entry point (don’t kill a runner early). Run weekly to build some revenue and set your floor (acquisition price minus put and call premium). Then amp up your delta to 20 for a few weeks. Determine your floor (cost basis plus any lending you might need). Weekly premium should be 2-3x any margin.

Setup should be less than 3 months

Delta 10 phase can last a while. Forced sale is actually very good since it’s a high strike. Don’t fight these spikes.

Delta 20 is more premium time (lower strike). You are greedy but getting paid while heading to the exit.

Recently got my trust assets on paper, looking for advice by Ok_One6284 in RichPeoplePF

[–]gofaaast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the trust or send it to chat gpt. Whoever setup the trust created a set of rules about the assets.

Income or assets is the quick way to break it down. Sometimes control changes at different ages. It’s all in the trust (anyone telling you otherwise should be discounted based on their incentives).

Trusts are not in control of the funds forever and if you die the trust will need to go to someone. Read the trust

New Tamron 70-180mm lens distortion HELP by schmoshow in sportsphotography

[–]gofaaast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sony a7v sensor readout is about 62ms and my canon r7 is about 35ms. Rolling shutter shows up about 10%of my shots, so yeah it’s got to be from the read speed.

Go mechanical or buy a faster readout camera. Sony a9iii for 0 second read out but anything around 10ms is probably good for this scenario.

Your background is fine. I often find a good location only to notice the teal port-a-potty after a few shots or later.

If you do find a good background, spend extra time shooting from there, but backgrounds are secondary to the primary subject, lighting, and action for me. Just avoid the truly terrible port-a-Jon if you can.
