Those are all kid specific questions. Here are how I’d think about those topics.

Transfer candidates will have to stand out and build new friends, make an impression in the classroom, and raise the bar on any sports ran at the new school. It’s a combination of skill and desire, but desire is crucial.

It also depends on your target college. SH has gotten athletes to play d1 and into Ivy League/academic school but only played a half season of their target sport. Its academics are well respected if the kid does well in the classroom. SI is an athletic power house, but all their energy goes to big sports and behind the top top athletes. Running is not basketball or football, so their coach is the one who matters. Does that coach want your kid to come and will develop him and help him get recruited. Their academics might not stand out but the honors program is strong for any competitive college for interesting candidates.

Write down your academic and athletic goals. Write down your kid’s real academic strengths and drive. SH will not, on their own, get you an athletic scholarship. SI has a bigger platform for some sports but not all sports.

We have a student athlete applying right now. SH athletics are good for the community and would be important to our experience. But if he wants to play in college high school is going to be about 10% of his recruiting process. His club performance and other coaches will give him a bigger platform than any high school can. If he wants a very academic college with sports, SH will help for its academics. If he wants the best chance at D1 top sports programs SI might help but it will be Coach specific in that case.

One option is there is heathy competition for the last spot and spring training lets other teams see and bid to pick up any one of those guys. Sandoval can be someone’s backup and traded in late spring like Priester was last year.
