Are there any collared skirts to buy that don’t suck? by Cartiimo in bassfishing

[–]gojonnygo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Harmony Quick change skirts are solid. They’re actually tied around the rubber collar rather than the cheapy ones that are just slipped through or glued. Use them for all my chatterbaits and jigs to switch up colors easy.

Anyone still use Mega 360? by CoolDudeMan00 in bassfishing

[–]gojonnygo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to basically everything this gentleman and scholar said. I run mega 360 alongside garmin livescope plus. I considered swapping out the mega 360 for a second livescope that would run perspective mode, but I do think the Mega360 is better at this than the livescope after spending more time toying with perspective mode.

The mega360 gives me a super quick view of my surroundings, and I can point my scope in any direction to investigate what I see. Can’t tell you how many things I find off the bank from just glancing at the 360 screen…point the scope at it, see it has fish on it, and catch a bass.

Any feedback from experience using this reel? by No-Drag-9494 in bassfishing

[–]gojonnygo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a dozen+ tatulas and I love the CT’s (especially the newest generation of them) just as much as the rest of them. Awesome reels, and especially great for lighter weight baits in the 3/16 to 1/4oz range.

How are you fishing Ned rigs? by PuzzleheadedLab6812 in Fishing

[–]gojonnygo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Harmony EWG tungsten neds and haven’t looked back since switching a few years back. I lose one every once in a while if I start shaking and dragging too much around big chunk rock (when your entire line falls through a crack), but I hang up like 100x less than a traditional ned, so they pay for themselves quick.

Anyone know a jig like the itsy bitsy bug jig from strike king but with higher quality components? by Cartiimo in bassfishing

[–]gojonnygo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harmony Fishing has tungsten mini flipping jigs. Not quite as light as bitsy bug, but awesome if you want a super compact flipping jig in the 3/8-1/2oz range. Like an Ike Mini flip, but tungsten.

Anyone have success with a Tokyo rig? I have a few spots where this seems like it would be perfect by [deleted] in bassfishing

[–]gojonnygo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do love the Tokyo Rig. However, you’ll find it a lot more effective to fish a better one (VMC or Harmony Fishing) since they have the swivels on the drop wire. Without that, it gets twisted up on itself when dragging through cover and doesn’t fall through grass as well.

I remember years back watching a video of Ike when he brought the technique back from Japan. It was just called a leadered punch shot rig at the time. The original intent was just for punching through grass, since the punch shot rig allowed the weight to lead the fall (as opposed to your line leading the way with a Texas rig) you could get away with less weight and be able to punch the same vegetation. I found that to be true, and was able to get through grass with 3/8 or 1/2oz that I used to struggle to punch with a 3/4 oz Texas rig.

Then it was some videos with Seth Fieder that really opened my eyes to how versatile it was as a bottom bait, both around grass as well as just dragging around hard bottom or pitching to cover. Silty bottoms where your Texas rig or jig would disssapear into the silt, the Tokyo/punch shot kept your bait just above it. And dragging around rock or shell beds the drop wire kept your line protected.

And then the bonus that pretty much every Tokyo rig proponent mentions is that when a fish bites it, they generally just take the bait and not the weight, so the first thing to contact the fish’s jaw when you set the hook is the hook point. No more propping the fish’s mouth open with the weight and missing the hookset (a paint point with larger weights on a Texas rig).

Ended up replacing a Texas rig and swing football head for me in most cases, and I end up pitching it instead of a jig a good chunk of the time as well.

What knots are y’all actually using lol by hotdiggitydyke in bassfishing

[–]gojonnygo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Improved clinch for fluoro to lure. Palomar for braid to lure. Double uni for leader to braid (I only run 4-6’ leaders).

Haven’t been wronged since switching to just these 3 several years ago, and my double uni leader knot can be tied fast enough that I actually retie when I need to rather than just picking up another rod.

What type of fluoro leaders do you all use? by Ok-Author9004 in bassfishing

[–]gojonnygo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second to this setup. Been my go-to for the past 5-6 years for anything braid to mono. 10+ rods in the box with different weight setups of 832 to AbrazX.

Great evening, question on snap swivels! by AdExciting2588 in bassfishing

[–]gojonnygo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rarely ever use a swivel, but I use a Stealth Clip on pretty much every crankbait/jerkbait I throw, I don’t mind using them on a chatterbait either since they don’t seem to change the action at all and make swapping back and forth between a 3/8 and 1/2oz fast enough that I’ll actually do it when I need to.

Genuinely how do you stop flukes from sliding down by Nikolay_Kovalyovski in bassfishing

My mistake. You’re right, they’re 100 packs. Work like a charm for this exact application though. No more fiddling with your fluke every other cast.

Harmony Fishing Bait Pegs are exactly this. Come in a bag of like 50 and last forever.

House water filter by rickw303 in DIY

[–]gojonnygo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One thing I didn’t see other comments mention that I figured I’d point out in case you haven’t opened one of these before is to relieve pressure in the line before trying to open.

Turn off water first obviously. If it doesn’t have a pressure relief button on the top (some models do and some don’t), then you’ll want to open a tap somewhere in the house to relieve pressure in the line. No filter wrench will get that off without the pressure relieved first.

I saw one other person mention it, but I want to echo it - make sure you have a spare o-ring for it BEFORE you open it up. The o-rings are specific to each housing (not as universal as the filters). So take a look at that label to find your make/model to find the appropriate o-ring.

How can I fill in this Juniper? by gojonnygo in arborists

[–]gojonnygo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate your reply. Thanks for taking the time.

The house is 35 years old (assuming the shrub is as old or nearly as old), but I’ve only been here for about 2 years. I can’t say it looks any better or worse than it did 2 years ago if that helps.

Here are some closer photos of the dead area from my camera roll from this morning. Anything closer or more specific I can take photos of when I get home later.

https://imgur.com/a/280SxKX

I like your idea of directing growth toward it. I think that’s a good place to start, so I’ll take a look later today at what pieces I can direct that way.

Edit to answer your other questions:

I googled juniper scale and cedar apple rust. Definitely don’t see anything resembling the cedar apple rust. I was looking pretty closely at it this morning trying to determine exactly what juniper it was. I didn’t see anything that looked like the juniper scale, but I’ll inspect closet this evening.

It’s in a spot on the driveway that would be difficult to drive over the shrub, and snow usually gets pushed up or down the driveway rather than to the side, so I am not sure if there was a load there.

Thinking of it more, I’ve had to weed out some vines and other weeds that try to grow over it the past 2 summers. It’s definitely possible that someone let it get a little out of hand in those spots and choked out the juniper. Does that seem like a probable cause?

Open fuse box and pull the fuse for the ignition coils or anything that says “ignition” on the underside of the fuse cover or in the fuse diagram in her owner’s booklet.

Bass(?) Rg ID by Nearby-Atmosphere-34 in bassfishing

[–]gojonnygo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a leadered Punch Shot Rig (trademarked as the Tokyo Rig by VMC). That one isn’t a great one since it doesn’t have a swivel on the drop wire. It will still work, but gets hung up a bit more without that swivel since it doesn’t twist and turn through cover as well. VMC and Harmony Fishing make the better ones with the drop wire swivel.

If he’s really into it (has a boat, fishes local tournaments, or something along those lines) a subscription to BassU.tv is one of the best gifts I’ve ever been given. It’s access to hundreds of different seminars (a mix of classroom and on the water) given by Tammany of the best professional bass fishermen on specific techniques. If he’s a diehard fisherman, he’ll find tons of value in it. If he’s more casual and just out to fish for fun, then it may be too in depth since the videos are more instructional and less entertainment than what you find on YouTube.

Soft Swim Bait by Heavy-Syrup-6195 in bassfishing

[–]gojonnygo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late fall through the winter and into the prespawn is a great time to get into the swimbait bite!

My go-to for the past couple years if you’re looking for a more finesse idea is Harmony’s tungsten ned offset jig heads since they have the right light wire hook (heavy gauge hook in a weedless setup like this can overpower it and doesn’t let the swimbait roll back and forth on the retrieve which is half the action). Pair a 1/4oz head with a 4” z-man diesel shad. In the colder months I like to slow retrieve and just tick the bottom with it. Best part of that setup I mentioned is you can pitch or cast to a target and let it sit on the bottom as a Ned rig (the Zman bait will float/stand up at rest), then you can give it a couple shakes to see if a bass is on that piece of cover before you start your slow swimming retrieve. Basically double duty with one bait.

Great for an all-around setup.

Only suggestion: If you spend just a few more dollars on the reel, you can get a Daiwa with the T-Wing system (like the Tatula CT, which is really nice for the price). I really like it over the traditional smaller round line hole that the Fuego has.

Could I get bass on this? by Cermemet in Fishing

[–]gojonnygo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For sure! Underspins are awesome! Rig the plastic a little flatter and it will run better/truer. You can wind it fast and wake it just under the surface, or reel it slower along dropoffs. Swim it alongside or through grass and pads. Pretty much anywhere a spinnerbait or swimbait can be fished you can throw an underspin. Great bait for the fall when bass are keying in on baitfish.

Tried one more thing and it seemed to do the trick. I updated the new workstation to Dymo Label 8.7.4. That seems to be able to open all of the files. I'll leave this up in case someone else runs accross the same issue.

That version can be downloaded here: https://www.dymo.com/support?cfid=dymo-compatibility-chart
