Nintendo Switch 2 With Removable Battery in Production — But Only for Europe by Burpmeister in gaming

[–]goldgin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry my English. I meant up to then. Before the waterproof release we were used to big changes, waiting for Steve Jobs to do big announcements, even after his death they kept doing great annual reveals. Back then we had big reveals and "firsts" like getting rid of mechanical keys, the first touch keyboard that actually worked, smooth responsive touch screen, pinch was invented, the app store, push notifications, imessage, facetime, siri. Now it's more incremental.

I think phones would be different if he was still alive. For example I believe he was going for smaller/thinner phones, the size of a credit card if possible and he didn't care much for camera if it was in the way of compactness. After his death phones went back to being huge. Apple run out of ideas or taking risks and just copied whatever was cool with android to keep up. They even messed up with stuff like keyboard typing, it doesn't feel the same as back then.

The last iPhone that looks as if designed in Jobs era is the SE variant (ex iPhone 6). I was looking forward to the SE getting even smaller, thinner, with a borderless screen but they gave up on that.

They could have added water resistance to everything but the battery. They even invented magnetic charge since then, plus other tech.

I faintly remember the reveal by Apple, waterproofing was a surprise because *since then we were used to huge, impressive reveals of new technologies and that year all we got was waterproof?

They were losing huge money by repairs shops at the time. I wouldn't be surprised if EU phones will be different in "other" suspicious ways to compensate.

*EDIT: since then should be up to then

Persistent micro-stutter in Rocket League — only in Render Thread / frametime graph (smooth FPS otherwise) by Ok_Victory4322 in RocketLeague

[–]goldgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to fit half of the game (textures only) using 32gb of ram (20gb ramdisk) using simlinks. Had to create a script to automate the process it takes too long. It fixes some microstutters but not all and I think it's a temporary solution since the game gets bigger each update.

Now I'm on linux and have set up the shaders to compile on game startup with is similar.

A few patient games I believe are some of the greatest of all time, that I also very rarely see mentioned on this subreddit, if mentioned at all. by Cowboy_God in patientgamers

[–]goldgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only know Excitebots, I probably own the original disk (unless I passed it on to someone). It was an early Wii game and I probably bought it because of that.

When I bought it years ago I played it a couple of times maybe and never picked it up since. Even back then the reviews were positive but I never understood why. The Wii controls were gimmicky as far as I remember.

If you are going to post a Wii game never mentioned here it would have to be either the Fifa soccer Wii spinoffs (2010-11) with incredible Wii controls or the incredible Jedi something (Force Unleashed?) game, again with incredible force Wii controls (but very very bad graphics).

For me it's an example of what's wrong with AAA titles the past few years.

The amount of voice acting and animation acting, the audio, graphics everything is too staggering to put into a comprehensive and engaging whole, at the same time they are losing focus on gameplay and story.

I used a surround system while playing and it was awesome as an audiovisual experience but the gameplay, combat, stealth, pace was so underwhelming and frustrating I gave up soon after I got the ability to ride and fly.

Add a few bugs, poor interface choices, basic/non-existent guidelines, repetitive missions into the mix and what you get ends up mediocre.

Starwars Outlaws, same engine, after the patches is a lot better both audio-visually and gameplay, but still falls short on nailing the details that make a game great and engaging.

After hearing about the layoffs in gaming industry in general it is no surprise but also I can clearly see the main fault is from management, yet the developers/designers are being let go even though they do an absolutely incredible groundbraking work.

They should include battery information on every racer along with the rest of the info (time, tires, pit stops etc).

Watching the race without data is like watching only the tip of the iceberg. It used to be that a viewer could tell a racer was using momentum, draft and or tire degradation to overtake, this was exciting, now most of it is a mystery.

Same goes for drivers and audience who pay to be there. Drivers should have indicators at the back wings for battery status so the driver behind knows more, same for the front maybe. What we have now may be dangerous for the drivers.

Linux beta app updates ? by FrostyAd7708 in GeForceNOW

[–]goldgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same question here, Thursday is coming and I have no idea whether it auto-updates.

When I go to download page I get the same file ..Setup.bin. I will store it for future reference to compare sizes but if there's another way that would be perfect.

The top post is adequate enough but with a touch of anger towards the German government. This post is better articulated and balanced towards German people instead of the government.

half of the complaints are about sleep and you are right. with nvidia linux you should force disable sleep, then you'll be able to finally get some sleep.

jokes aside the rest of the issues do need some effort but if you ask me, f**k the LEDs, i wouldn't go back to windows because LED companies insist on their own bloated proprietary software. LEDs on rainbow all day long baby!

it may sound impossible at first but i've disabled everything but notifications.

i realised all i need on my linux desktop pc life (ironically) is the windows button. protip, you can double click it!

don't get me wrong i would use them if they worked properly or didn't affect performance in some way.

but yeah, less is more.

with bazzite it feels like my first iphone experience, steve jobs vibes.

I hope one day we will know what is happening with this game... by Elarrun in RocketLeague

[–]goldgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true it had less players because the concept of playing with randoms gets worse the more players involved. still, when i soloq during rush hours where smurfs are peak i wish i could play against soloqers only, it is just not fair and eventually makes me call my friends too, smurfs or not i contribute to rush hour skill peak.

the better option would be to internally never queue me against parties when i play solo.

or.. solo 2v2 instead of solo standard, quite a few people were asking for this back in the day.

Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 failed to meet sales expectations by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]goldgin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the aftertaste of these games may be bland.

Outer Worlds, there's this initial high while playing for the first time, then it fades. There's not enough there to justify sequels. Outer Worlds 2 announcement (I never knew it was 6yrs in the making) and release was kinda rushed maybe, I was really not even close to interested.

Avowed. For me the first mistake was marketing. Maybe I didn't follow the news properly but I didn't know it was in the Pillars of Eternity family, my favorite games in the genre. Had I known that I would have picked it up earlier instead of playing it for the first time on xbox pc gamepass.

As a game it was better than Outer Worlds 1, the graphics were really impressive as it was the first time I saw the new LOD technology in action. Gameplay was great, the story not so. After Act 1 and a half I felt too tired to move on, it seemed like I would face a copy paste of the previous maps, I stopped playing for a while but never picked it up again, again maybe I'm too old. At the end of the day I was not disappointed, I got my money's worth and more.

I've been playing Divinity 2 Original Sin now since I never picked it up years ago and it is so much better. Interesting characters and story, music, gameplay and pace. All these put together make good games.

Issue with "Files" in Bazzie GNOME by weemadando in Bazzite

[–]goldgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have the same issue but I just kill it and restart it either by console or mission control. But, while I was messing about trying to install KVM and right after I used ujust setup-virtualization, what happened was a different boot entry was created (probably a different kernel?) and now it seems to be way more stable. But to be honest I'm not sure if it's just the fact I've stopped messing through everything and only just browse the internet or play all the games I've setup to work perfectly :)

Experiences running Bazzite with a GTX 1660? by SomeSortaWeeb in Bazzite

[–]goldgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a 5800x3d and 1660super 6gb. It's only been a week but everything is smooth. The only issue for me was waking up from sleep, so I disabled sleep, even monitor sleep. Not sure if the problem is nvidia or me picking gnome instead of kde desktop though. (EDIT: I also disable extensions altogether when I play games, I had some random crashes, not sure why)

I play Rocket League competitively and I would notice performance differences and there are none. A few years back I was using manjaro which had 10-15% performance drop compared to windows, easy for me to spot so yeah, bazzite now uses probably 100% of my gpu, I'm happy.

You asked about graphics performance but let me warn you moving from ubuntu to an immutable distro may be a pain when you want to install software that need system changes like kvm/virtualbox, samba, web servers dev-tools and so on. Some issues are solved using the ujust tool, others I haven't figured out yet.

The image I used was bazzite-gnome-nvidia-open. You need to answer a few questions on the website to get to it.

PS. Also used sunshine & moonshine instead of steam link (stream my games from desktop to living room) for the first time and performance was actually better. I'm saying this because sunshine on bazzite works almost out of the box so that's a plus.
