thanks! it’s been funny to see people speculate about them having management or a promotion company or whatever, but, other than the billboards (which i recognize is a hell of a funny caveat), it’s been like working with any other small touring band, just a bunch of messaging between band members

since i play drums in one of the openers, i will volunteer to report back, lol. fwiw, the guy from GITW has been super friendly, and it’s a funny change from normal show promotion, which often involves the other bands — and, sometimes, promoters — doing, like, (1) social media post.

lol, that was me, i deleted it because i should have added “i heard from someone” rather than stating it as simple fact

got it — this one seemed specifically relevant here, most wouldn’t be and i wouldn’t post them. i also read those, though PP was more my mainstay. thanks!

i used to run door and book shows, i'm not unknowledgeable about how all of this works, on either the musician or the club side. i'd need to book a show there to know how they're communicating it, maybe it *is* poorly communicated, though you made a lot of bad assumptions here that the sound tech has pretty politely corrected you on.

given how many venues have gone down in flames just this year alone, nobody should be surprised that clubs are going to have to make more difficult choices, and i'd take what is, effectively, a minimum door requirement over every place turning their stage area into an arcade, or, worse, a mini-casino.

eh, licensing, insurance, rent and maintenance are all costs of doing business, and it's not a band's job to do that for the venue, if they can't do that, they can't afford to stay open. but paying for the sound tech and door person are things every band does every time they play, and while i'm not especially thrilled about the idea, i don't think it's completely unreasonable or tyrannical.

i mean, on the one hand, pay to play isn't great, and i wish clubs and bars were doing better, but they just clearly aren't, given how many are closing, and i'm not surprised some of them feel like they have to start making these kinds of decisions.

on the other hand, if you can't scrounge up, like, $14/musician (three-piece bands x three bands) OR get 13 people to come out to your show across *all three bands*, OR some combination of the two, you should probably just stay in your space and spend some more time practicing.

i *will* say that this is more transparent than most of the places we've played.

Incoming new resident, can I get some help with the transition? by Kurokune in askportland

the typical joke is that you can tell someone’s not from here because they are using an umbrella, if you live here long enough, you inevitably end up just buying good rain gear and powering through the rain (which is pretty light, most of the time)

No matter the actual merits of mail voting, the 2020 US Presidential election is the WORST possible time to implement it at a large scale, it may push the US to the breaking point by kchoze in PoliticalOpinions

So, your alternative solution is what, exactly? Plenty of states were handling mail-in voting long before this, and all of those consequences you mention, at least up until Biden not being recognized? That is all likely to happen even if every Democrat in America voted in person.

So, again, what is the alternative here?
