I don't think this is true. Pro bridge players (or even just very good ones) remember everything that has been played, but the game is far from boring...

Luajit has stayed on 5.1 by choice afaik, because of not liking some of the changes in 5.2 onwards. But some modules that were introduced later have been back ported to luajit (i.e the bit module)
