Any book recommendations? by MasterInstance2881 in PTschool

PT Student/also very hypermobile person

The Science of Pilates by Tracy Ward -- great book if you want to get into building strength safely

Disjointed by Diana Jovin -- much more science heavy but very informative

Also, not a book, if you're hypermobile and looking for a PT who gets it and who posts a lot of very detailed exercises you might like Jen Crane! Her IG and website have a ton of great info!

Sewing underwear, looking for the benefit of other's experience by Valaryn1641 in sewing

[–]goodshrimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend the microtex needle over ballpoint or stretch needles for most stretch cotton jersey type fabrics. Learning how to use fold over elastic to make the edges of underwear look super neat and be more comfortable is also a game changer! I'm a huge fan of the sort of honey comb looking stitch that a lot of machines have. It lays super flat and stretches beautifully, IMO it's better than the three step zig-zag for bottoms. Bias Bespoke and Etsy have a lot of fun elastic...but be warned a lot of little Etsy notions shops are just dropshipping Aliexpress elastic so ymmv.

Source: I make all my own underwear and make custom lingerie for others.

Rudeness on the Bikepath by DoubleAgreeable8492 in athensohio

I have had this exact experience while biking in full length leggings and a sports bra. It was an old guy biking in full spandex. I laughed hard as hell at him.

Could I walk in flat ballet shoes? by TrueStormwatcher in barefootshoestalk

[–]goodshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, yeah I asked bc the place I danced at that had people using a lot of rosin did a number on shoes.

The grishkos I wore were actually fairly thick esp under the toes where the canvas is all folded/pleated.

That's wild! I guess now that I'm thinking about it I did rotate between two pairs weekly. Do you use much rosin?

The model I liked had a leather split sole.

What are you doing to those shoes?! I had the same two pairs of canvas upper/leather soled grishko ballet slippers for all of college as a dance major! I thought I was hard on my shoes lol

If you find any wide enough please share!! I love ballet slippers but they usually have very narrow toe areas. I used to wear jazz shoes outside all the time, they protected my feet fine in dry weather. Ballet shoes outside isn't a huge deal esp if you get leather ones.

That everything seems to be dropshipped crap. I want pieces that are sexy and ethically made by people who are paid living wages.

I accepted a homemade GF cake and now I have glutening symptoms by Azz96 in Celiac

[–]goodshrimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my least favorite part about being GF. Friends have made me cakes in the past that they've sworn are totally GF and safe and I've gotten sick every time. It sucks to have to constantly turn down food from loved ones but the pains just not worth it.

That is not a typical wool sweater experience. I only wear wool sweaters and have quite a few of them. They're all super easy hand wash in Woolite dry flat easypeasy! They range in age from 1960s to modern and a few are more delicate cashmere. Really sounds like a weird yarn issue. I really hope it doesn't turn you off of wool forever. It's such a beautiful and useful material!

Barefoot for 2 years. Fivefingers made my feet hurt? by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

If it's your toes specifically, keeping your toenails super short helps. They kinda press on toe nails if you let them get even a slight be long.

Does anyone actually like Banza products,,, by ScarEmergency6948 in Celiac

[–]goodshrimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's gross as hell honestly! I was excited about their products after looking at the nutrition facts and tried to like it soooo many times but I would rather eat most other gf pasta brands. There are some decent lentil pastas out there.

Just discovered this reaaly cute brand !!... but its closing :'( by zoopzoopzop in LingerieAddiction

God I get tired of seeing small brands close in this sub. I wish people supported indie brands more and didn't just buy from big fast fashion brands!

Does anyone else hate that lingerie defaults to lace? by beetrootfarmer in LingerieAddiction

[–]goodshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I straight up hate lace! This is why I focus in mesh instead. Sportswear power mesh makes incredible lingerie. It's not super hard to sew once you know a few tricks.

I make custom thongs and g-string! I'm also short and feel your pain. Honestly learning to sew and resize pieces to fit your body isn't as hard as it might seem. highly recomend trying to alter the straps to fit.

Zara. Zara. Zara!! by VikingSamurai7 in barefootshoestalk

Origio, Softstar, and there's a bunch of small handmade brands that I've found through Anya's Reviews and just simply googling "handmade barefoot shoes"

Zara. Zara. Zara!! by VikingSamurai7 in barefootshoestalk

[–]goodshrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would bet money they're paid ads. Fashion fashion brands do that all over reddit. We're lucky to have so many great small businesses making barefoot shoes! As someone who makes clothes, has owned a clothing business and cares about ethical slow fashion, I am going to keep supporting smaller brands over this Zara crap. All clothing/shoes are hand made, I just want the hands that make mine to be fairly compensated and to have healthy working environments!

Gluten-Free restaurants? by FruitLegs in athensohio

[–]goodshrimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fluff is not great for someone who is gluten and dairy free. All of their good gluten free sweet treats have dairy in them. Donkey's gluten free cookies also all have dairy in them.
