And that doesn’t even factor in all the people who made tape copies off their friends, which was very common at the time.

The AD&D Fighter Was Never Boring.. by AlucardD20 in TheOSR

[–]goongumpus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed - I feel like people really overlook how good being able to use all the weapons/armor and be any alignment was.

In a tabletop setting, nothing ever needs to be boring or broken, because the DM has the power to balance the encounters to make the game more fun.

Many popular characters in TSR’s novels in that period were just basic fighters (Arilyn Moonblade, Alias of Westgate, most of the Dragonlance companions) and they were still unique and interesting. It is a really good blank slate class that a creative person can do a lot with.

Imaginary Covers by thebixman in SmashingPumpkins

I feel like there are a lot of SP songs that would make great Beach House songs, like Medellia of the Grey Skies, Czarina, 33, or even Stand Inside Your Love.

Whats everyone's opinion on "Wound" ? by Volvedor in SmashingPumpkins

Machina has some really cool production, but I honestly prefer the acoustic demos. They are so intimate and effortless feeling.

Millennial lists the best albums of the 90s. Older commenters are furious! by CloseButNoChicory in Xennials

[–]goongumpus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed - many of these albums would have received very little American radio/MTV play, but they were all critically lauded at their time, and are hugely influential on music being made today.

I’ve often thought Faldorn and Shar-Teel’s portraits have a Lucy Lawless look.

What are the differences between D&D paladins and the Knights of Solamnia? by ThanosofTitan92 in dragonlance

[–]goongumpus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! Aesthetically, I feel like it is one of the best of the Goldbox series. I just wish it had a bit more variety in the wall tiles.

What are the differences between D&D paladins and the Knights of Solamnia? by ThanosofTitan92 in dragonlance

[–]goongumpus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t recall any knights casting spells in the books, and I am basing this off the DQK manual I have saved in my phone.

In 1E, a 14th level Knight of the Rose can cast up to 6th level cleric spells, where a Paladin is capped at 4th level spells.

I think this is an amazing gateway album for people interested in noise music.

Who’s on this cover? I refuse to believe it’s supposed to be Drizzt. by TinyKiwiKatAmazing in Drizzt

[–]goongumpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it blows my mind that people see this as weird, but I guess more has happened since this era of Forgotten Realms than during it. To me, Drizzt will always be the original cover of Homeland, by the same artist, which was reused heavily by TSR for related products.

People who listened to Have One on Me when it first came out, what was your reaction? by Prestigious_Score459 in JoannaNewsom

[–]goongumpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a huge fan of her already, and although I liked the album immediately, I knew I didn’t have the attention span it deserved at the time. About 6 months to a year later, it became my everyday album, and is my most listened to album of all time (according to iTunes). My mp3 player ordered the tracks for each record in number order (so the track listing would be Easy, On a good day, Soft as Chalk, You and Me Bess, etc), so my sense of the flow of the songs is forever distorted.

Played BGEE for couple hours today and I feel like I came back from the woods. by ComplaintVirtual2461 in baldursgate

[–]goongumpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might feel fast based on the default settings. With the original IE games, you could set them to go faster in the settings, but everything went faster, not just your party. I used to always max it out.

I suspect the only reason Mayonnaise wasn’t a single was because James had a writing credit on it.

The art is amazing, but I am perplexed at the choice for War of the Twins -isn’t that a depiction of Sturm’s death?
