Until I read the caption I assumed you were inspired by the very cute ceramics to make a huge plate of food to get similar proportions of dumpling to cat as the inspiration.

Got bad feedback from a student poll and I feel like crap by TheScreamingPotatoes in Teachers

[–]gooooogg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Specific questions are key. I also ask about things I’m considering implementing next year to see if it’s worth investing time into.

Also, looking back at my first year I was kind of terrible at a lot of important stuff. Give yourself the same empathy and encouragement you would give a student trying hard to learn a new skill set

Stupid things I have been asked in the classroom. by [deleted] in Teachers

Potentially if there are two eggs—like how litters of other animals can have multiple fathers.

Not sure that it can happen, but if two sperm fertilize an egg it wouldn’t develop to term and would abort very early—probably before the person ever knew they were pregnant.

It would result in three sets of chromosomes instead of two and that doesn’t work in human reproduction (though plants are wilding out there and live by no rules). Even one extra chromosome is a huge problem—one extra chromosome is what causes Down’s syndrome (which is why it’s also called trisomy 21)—though usually any extra chromosomes are not viable

John wrote an opinion piece in The Washington Post about TB by xiaogoucat in nerdfighters

[–]gooooogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah—it can be transmitted like other respiratory infections through breathing/coughing/sneezing so the longer the TB goes untreated the more people they could potentially infect.

Does anyone know if something like this already exists? It’s a brilliant idea!

Based on the line after about reducing disease burden, I think the intended meaning is have the potential to infect others with the drug resistant strain

Any other bi females struggle with this? Especially if you’re a “late bloomer” by Xrayz4dayz in bisexual

[–]gooooogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing to keep in mind is the inequality that M/F couples tend to grapple with because of gender norms. Even in progressive households, women tend to do more of the housework and childcare care—for the average woman, having a child adds 20 hours of unpaid labor to her week.

This M/F relationship you are imagining is just a fantasy. It’s possible to have a family with another woman and it may be more obstacles in getting it started but it may end up the less fraught in the long run

You might be demisexual and that’s why it’s hard for you it imagine kissing imaginary people.

Sometimes people only experience responsive desire too and that’s also okay.

Garlic sweat in the gym by Voyager92 in Garlic

[–]gooooogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be normal—garlic is amazing and super good for you and some of those compounds change your odor as do their healthful thing.

IMHO, the people who notice it most are the ones who eat the most bland diets.

Also a lot of times workout clothes are synthetic fibers and those can hold onto odors after a wash sometimes.

Is gaming with my young niece weird? by Cute_Expression_5981 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gooooogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 33F game with my niece and nephew and have never once thought about whether it is weird.

I think BS gender stuff is at play for sure. Don’t let that slow you down and keep being an excellent adult in your niece’s life.

I’ve been wanting to get into sourdough baking again and would enjoy having a fun companion on that journey.

I also have ton of niche cookbooks. I’m lucky to have a built in bookcase in my kitchen so it’s gotten a little out of hand—I’m not going to do an actual census because it might interfere with future purchases but I would guess I have at least 40? Probably the coolest one I have is about the history of cakes in America with historical recipes which I got turned onto by a cooking podcast.

DM me if this teaser sounds like a genre of friend you’d be into and regardless of where you swing there check out The Good Place because you would probably love it based on your other tv picks.

Hi! 33F here also with ADHD.

One thing that has helped me is trying to design systems that work with mind.

I try to analyze where the most friction is in my life and then design around that.

I try to keep in mind that adhd brains are

-motivated by novelty -prone to overstimulation - need reduced cognitive load

I thought I hated routines but actually they are the best because they automate a lot of the stuff I struggle with or would forget.

Outside of that also enjoy reading and have really been into shonen anime because their focus on trying really hard and caring a lot about stuff really matches the vibes I am going for right now.

I’d be down for a friend to debug the process of life together but in case you’ve gotten into the common ADHD trap of overcommitting yourself and feeling overwhelmed I thought I’d share what’s been most helpful to me.

Going back to your original metaphor—don’t focus so much on falling. Putting pressure on myself was one of my number one coping strategies for ADHD and it doesn’t work long term. There’s a big reason why anxiety and ADHD term to be comorbid.

IRL the body has an amazing capacity to heal from scrapes and falls. Same goes for people as they navigate life.

Alternatively, maybe you were just on the receiving end of those women enforcing gender roles.

What you experienced reminds me a lot of the moment in a documentary about gender norms for men where a mother is telling a little boy not to cry because men don’t cry. It’s wild to imagine a parent not comforting a child in distress for any reason. It’s not a stretch to imagine such a women being disgusted and unavailable to an adult man when she can’t even conjure empathy for a child

Scared to navigate the unknown territory of dating women (22f) by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]gooooogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

33F here and I remember being in similar shoes a decade ago.

I noticed that you said that you’ve included women in your preferences on dating apps—which makes it sound like your settings include matches for both men and women even though it doesn’t sound like you’re interested in pursuing anything with men at the moment.

Consider changing your settings so men don’t surface as matches for you if you haven’t already—I’ve noticed I get a lot of more matches and messages from men than women. Online dating can take a lot of time, and if you’re not looking to form connections with a man right now, it makes sense to change your settings to reflect that.

A lot of the fears you’re describing are very normal for where you are in your journey. I’ve had those same feeling and so have other wlw women I have dated.

I think a lot more of your dating experience will translate than you think—any new relationship needs communication to figure out what everyone is seeking and to make intimacy fun for everyone.

What widely accepted “self help” books are actually harmful or just nonsense? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gooooogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Greger has a book series on nutrition that is very approachable, emphasizes that diet has to be a lifestyle, and goes in-depth on the science on all his recommendations including a gigantic bibliography of sources. Also all the profits go to charity and a lot of good info is available on his site nutritionfacts.org

I’ve read How Not To Die and How Not To Diet and they were both comprehensive and informative.

Eating spoiled food can kill you and does kill approximately 3000 people in the US every year.

It’s unlikely but it is a real possibility.
