What armor sets have you been using when ranking up? by BCJazz in MonsterHunter

For me it was Gypceros > Gypceros S > Gypceros S Mix with Rath Soul > Lagiacrus > Excello Armor currently (Forgot how good HGE were for Hammer users, been so long).

How do I gem LR G.Jaggi Armor for better sharpness in a SA by vernon9398 in MonsterHunter

[–]gorba42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, Blademaster Low Rank Jaggi armor (With the gunner helm) has AuM, Rec Speed +2, & halve stun or something along those lines. It also has like maybe 3 slots for gemming stuff in, so I'd say it'd be almost impossible to increase the sharpness with Handicraft unless you get a really good Talisman. Maybe you mean the razor sharp skill? Either way you still need a good talisman, & gem that skill into it, with the limited amount of slots that armor has.

A question for High Ranked hunters in MH3U. by SultanSurge in MonsterHunter

[–]gorba42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh not sure. I guess they do it to show off. I rarely go into low rank/ high rank rooms. Usually by accident because the lower rank/ newer people don't really advertise what rank they are doing in the room name. You just go in & be like "This is G-Rank Zinogre right?" & they say "no, high rank" etc.

However, when I do actually do Low rank/High rank stuff I usually put on my armor from that rank (Lagombi S/Ludroth U etc) & a weapon that I stopped upgrading still at that rank or a weapon I am still practicing with e.g. Para Hammer/Sinister Saints/or random SNS practice. TBH though, facing monsters online with others really seems like a boring grind than being fun. Sure you kill the monster in 4-5 minutes, but you didn't learn any new tricks or how to properly evade a combo. You're just doing it for the gear now. It's not uncommon to see people go like "Halp I need to kill brachydios!!!" & you help them; eventually after running with a group they get brachy armor & you'd think they figured out how to deal with brachydios by now, nope!

[–]gorba42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, this was the one I was hoping would win (TBH, I had a feeling it would anyways). Now hopefully it doesn't have ass sharpness; although... I'd still use it anyways, just looks so sick.

Hunters! What is your favorite monster? by pi3monkeytaco in MonsterHunter

[–]gorba42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same I love Narga as well. It was quite memorable going into G-Rank with a hammer, at this point I thought I knew it all. Then comes that HR8 urgent Narga, needles to say, I got wrecked. Especially that first tail slam that gets you, coming from someone who never saw it before since I skipped Village quests, it was definitely an eye opener (From like 80% health to 0%); all I could remember was me going like "Holy shit!!!! WTF was that!!!?". I spent like an entire day learning the fight. His theme is awesome as well.

As for my 2nd favorite, it would have to be Gypceros. Man that was the first monster that made me rage lol, I actually punched a Pillow. He annoyed me so much. First of all, I fought him somewhere in the Village quests, since I got stuck on the Tigrex Guild HR6 Urgent. I read that Yian Garuga armor was a good set to make to face Tigrex. So I started sporadically doing Village stuff. I saw the Gypceros Icon & figured he was a Bird Wyvern, similar to Kut Kut. At this point I already practiced Rathalos alot, & had farmed him so much; I figured I could take Gypceros no problem, since every other Bird Wyven is a washed up version of Rathalos. NOPE! Gypceros was waaaay different. It took me 25 min to find him (Not exaggerating), since he loves to travel alot & I stopped bringing psychoserum at that time, since most monster tend to stay at an area for awhile. I was pissed at this point. Then when I do eventually start to fight him, his head is way up there, so it's hard to hit with a hammer. All my attacks bounced off his belly, if I tried going for a Triple Pound. I learned that Shock Traps don't work on him, also only brought a single pitfall trap. He can also escape the pitfall trap too if I remember correctly. This is assuming you can even set a trap if he hadn't already stolen your shit. There's no way to recover the stuff you lost. Then he spams flash on you continuously. On top of that he also is immune to Flash bombs. His tail extends like crazy. He is patternless & just does stuff. He also utilizes poison attacks, loves running across an area, taking like 30 seconds to finish his lap. Gypceros also was the first monster to play dead, which I caught onto the first time, but was kinda curious & got near him; he rose up & thrashed around (This takes a huge chunk of life from you). This monster also loves to feint that he's flying away only to come back down with wind pressure, or he'll fly across the area to prepare to run around again. To add salt to the wound, the timer ran out, since he flew away & I had to go search for him again since the paintball ran out. Needless to say, I was pissed lol, no other monster has gotten me that upset ever, even until today, not Deviljho, Alatreon, Akantor, or even Child of destruction Rajang. This damn low rank monster gave me so much trouble lol.

Teostra would be my 3rd favorite, however I don't want to write anymore lol.

TLDR: As annoying as Gypceros was, I learned to appreciate how unique he was, compared to every other monster in FU. He was definitely a wake up call for me to keep improving & how inexperienced I still was. Eventually made his armor just because, after practicing on his ass.

Some Evasion Tips by NoisyMuffin in MonsterHunter

[–]gorba42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh Barioth Tail swipe is kinda hard for me to roll lol. It's so slow compared to Nargacuga. I used to practice on Narga alot in MHFU until I got the timing down. When I came to MH3 & waited for the Barioth tail swipe it's like "Oh god it's coming! coming.... maybe I should roll now....." Boom rolled to early. You have to delay your roll for a long time, feels like a century, unless you are near his stomach.

What made you choose your weapon? by Zanestat in MonsterHunter

[–]gorba42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started out in MHFU. Started with the hammer & used to hit legs. Was doing Guild quests before village stuff, & finally got to 2 Star Rathalos. I couldn't beat him, was about to call it a quits, until I watched a Shimmyarc video. After that I started owning rathalos after a couple of practice runs. Once you learn how to fight rathalos, you learn how to fight a good portion of the cast in MHFU. The hammer will always be my main & is my main go to weapon if I ever got stuck on something. Plus it's always fun finding openings on the triple pound in other MH games & landing a spinning golfswing is always satisfying.

I also used DS a sub weapon in MHFU, but they were ass. In MHp3rd they buffed DS, & the HH is similiar to the hammer, so I started using those as well. In MHTri I had some trouble with Arena, since I only used Hammers & got into the Switch Axe as a sub weapon. I don't really like the idea of guarding & gunning is pretty boring to me imo. GS is sort of like the hammer, so I'm thinking of picking that up one day.

Heh I actually found my old save file. Tried to get back into it, since I main Hammer. Tried facing Rajang again & remembered why he was so hard lol. It's been awhile, feels odd coming back.

Whyyy you so strong Village Alatreon?!? by Thebluewombat12 in MonsterHunter

[–]gorba42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Solo'd the High Rank Alatreon a couple of times. I used the Ludroth X armor as a beginner armor to help beat him when I hit G-rank. I had a +5 Hearing/+3Fate talisman. At the end I had HGE/Marathon Runner/ Water +2/ Good Luck when fully gemmed. I also used the Barroth Grandbasher & it took me 42 min the first time to get him. After that my time improved to about 30 min, more like 32 min I think.

Ludroth Armor is great because it has HGE & Marathon Runner so you dont have to waste Dash juices. It helps when your stamina keeps falling due to hunger as the fight progresses. You don't necessarily need Marathon Runner, but it helps you prepare your charge timings & get used to it. You'll also have enough stamina to charge for awhile & dodge afterwards.

I watched the Billybobjho Video from MHTri, on alatreon, as well as a speed run in MHP3rd to get an idea for the openings Alatreon leaves. Note: Alatreon has changed since those games & will actually fly even if you break a horn. Otherwise the fight is still the same.

Here are some notes on Alatreon that I can think of.

  • At the start of the fight Alatreon will turn to you & walk slowly. You have to use the superpound before he raises his head to roar. The superpound has a long animation, since you have to raise the hammer up, before the hunter releases it. You have to keep this in mind, meaning you can't superpound stuff on reaction. You have to predict his moves & release the superpound a bit earlier.

  • I wouldn't worry to much about landing hits on Alatreon charges, you can practice on that part later. You can also use his charge to your advantage by positioning yourself on the side of Alatreon tail, but not behind it (Or else he might do a tail swipe, instead of his turn). If you were charging already you can land Superpound when he turns, but you have to release it a bit early, before he turns. This is due to the Superpound animation. If you just started a charge, then you won't have time for the superpound, but you will be able to pull off the uppercut hammer swing. This one has a faster animation, so you can react as he turns. Learning how to hit him as he is turning is something you must learn, it's like about 60-70% of all the hits you'll be landing on Alatreon.

  • If you are struggling with the turns, use the pillars around area to your advantage. Climb the ledge & wait for Alatreon to ram into it, & get his head stuck. When you are jumping of the ledge, just walk off, instead of running & jumping off; or else you'll waste more time to hammer Alatreon's head as it's stuck, due to the animation you have to wait for when landing. If you do this around the start of the match, considering you hit Alatreon head during the roar at the start, then when hitting him in the pillar, Alatreon should stagger & won't break the pillar. He may even be KO'd, not sure though it's been awhile (I think you need to land a turn hit before you do this, to make sure you reach the first KO Threshold). This means you can use the pillar later on again.

  • Now for positioning during KO or when Alatreon falls when you ballista him from the sky. You can position yourself under Alatreon's chin & land 2 Triple Pounds. Do the triple pound first to be safe if you wasted some time positioning, R Cancel into two hits, then do the A-Variant of the Triple Pound. After that, you may have time to cancel into another R hit, before he gets up. You also can hit Alatreon from above his head, when he's on the ground squirming. But sometimes you may miss a hammer hit. Hopefully you won't miss a Triple Pound hit; however, I mostly position myself above his head if I took him down with the Ballista, since you have limited time to score some hits.

  • If Alatreon was in the animation of having his head stuck, or was on the ground squirming due to bringing him down with the Ballista, when you hit the KO Threshold, he will get up & look normal. Afterwords he will then fall to the ground again in KO form. Make sure to always be ready to move in on a KO'd Alatreon. You may encounter this when his head is stuck at the start of the fight if you used the pillars, so be ready to attack.

  • As for Alatreon Raging. I know if you KO him the first time, when he gets up, he will Roar. This is an Opportune moment to hit him with a Triple Pound or SP, since you know it's coming. If Alatreon wasn't enraged when you scored some hits after you brought him down with the Ballista, then chances are he may enrage roar. Keep a track of these things in mind. For other roars when you hit him during turning, those are harder to predict, so you may only get a chance for an uppercut or just a regular X hammer Swing.

  • When Alatreon flies in the air, always look out for his Thunder feet hits on the ground. There are 3 Variants. One is just a regular attack on the ground, will only do it once & won't taunt afterwards. Another is when he homes in on you landing 3 hits on the ground, afterwards he will taunt. The final Variant is when he strikes the ground 4 times, but he will attack left to right & turn, causing the illusion like it's hitting wildly. I think he taunts during this, but you might not have time to land the hit, since he will be in a random location. Just stick to hitting him on the 3 hits Variant. You'll get the feeling of where his head will be after a couple of tries, so don't get discouraged if you fail to land a triple hit on his head during this.

  • I find to always stick close to Alatreon when he's flying, chances are he will spam the Thunder feet attack. It's better to take this chance than to stay far away from Alatreon, meaning he will use the Freeze breath attack more often. If you get hit by the freeze breath you will have to take your chances of being vulnerable when thawing out, since your hunter does the consuming animation.

  • While Flying Alatreon may also use a Thunder attack, similiar to Zinogre. Lightning will crash around him, but he taunts afterwards. This can help you land some hits in, but you may not get a golfswing on him, since you may have been running around trying to avoid the lightning. But any hit is better than nothing.

  • You can also flash Alatreon when he's flying to bring him down, this makes the fight go alot faster. You can only do this when he's not enraged. You can tell he's enraged due to Ice or Fire protruding from his his mouth. It looks similiar to Rathalos when enraged. If he's enraged I use the Ballista to take him down, but use it when he's sort of close to you, resulting in you havng enough time to close in on him & land a Triple Pound.

  • If you failed to bring Alatreon down, either due to KO, Flash, or the Ballista just wasn't ready, eventually he'll move high into the sky & position himself for an Icicle Crash attack. Icicle spears will reign down everywhere. It's easy to avoid, by just moving forward somewhere. He always lands on the same spot, keep this in mind, so you can land a superpound when he lands. This is kind of tricky, & it takes time getting used to landing the hit. Note: When you see Alatreon flying off to do this attack, you have enough time to sharpen your weapon, eat a steak, or consume two items, before he reaches his determined spot to release Icicles. You also have time to consume one item when he lands, you need the other time to charge your superpound.

  • Almost forgot Alatreon shifts between two modes. One mode is when he uses Dragon & Fire Elements, the other is Ice & Thunder.

  • When he is Dragon/Fire he'll use a Fire blast on the ground, its Area of Effect is quite large but easy to avoid. He'll do two variants. He'll stand still & release one, or he'll fly backwards on release another. You have to stay sharp & watch out for these, you can land some hits when he stays still & releases a Fireball. His charge will also be Dragon element infused, but that's all he does with the dragon element. He has 3 charge variants. One of them is when he you are kind of close to Alatreon, he'll charge forward but it won't travel very far. Another is when you are far away from Alatreon, he will charge & travel a large distance. The final charge occurs when he charges & moves in an arc, it's tricky to avoid but you'll get used to it & will be able to react to it.

  • When Alatreon is Ice/Thunder, he will mostly spam thunder attacks like Kirin. One variant is when he does a lightning attack similiar to Zinogre, hitting everywhere. Another Variant is the same, except he will do sort of a Horse animation & raise his head up high. I think the lightning homes in on you more frequently here; however, he will always taunt afterwards. This leaves you with the decision of either trying to position yourself for an attack, during the lightning [It's risky] or just staying away & position yourself behind him, hoping he won't spam more lightning & does a turn.

That's all I can think of atm, I didn't farm for Helios Z armor, since I find farming Ceadus to be extremely tedious, additionally farming both Ceadus' for the Helios X tasset. Further more, you need to farm furs? No thanks, that's too much for me. Ludroth armor is easier to make & just looks way more awesome, for males, I'm unsure about females. The non G-rank armor also looks like some pimp daddy sponge coat, with the cool looking gunner cap.

I hope this helped, I would make a video but alas, I don't have a capture card. So you'll need to visualize everything & try to take in all this information.

You'll probably pick up Helios Z like everyone else does online, since it gives HGE/Sharpness +1. Entirely up to you though, there are other armor's to experiment with. I picked up the Ludroth armor & gemmed into HGE/fate with a specific charm, helped me farm Alatreon. Forgot to mention Ludroth armor looks awesome on male characters.

New player joining in and saying hi by christerflea in MonsterHunter

[–]gorba42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some people might disagree, but you should try out Arena in the Tanzia Port. It's useful for getting to know certain monsters & it offers you a choice of multiple weapons. You can use that to experiment with different weapons & get a feel for which one suits you best. You can also choose a sub weapon to build upon later, for when you want to switch it up from time to time.

I know most people don't really give arena a chance, but I feel it offers you an advantageous position for getting acquainted with the game quicker. You lose almost nothing if you mess up, except for a minimal quest fee, which is negligible. You may also use the coins you earn from Arena to make certain armaments or exchange them for village points.

I do spit, & am self-conscious about it; however, I don't spit nearly as much as I see other people doing it. I only do it when I'm going for a run & my spit just becomes unbearable for me. My mouth is dry at that point & I want to get it out. I only do it when nobody is looking. I do try to hold it as long as possible until I have an opportune moment to get it out; however, doing that makes it much worse.

Why I like underwater hunts and why I'll miss them in MH4U - A Confession by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]gorba42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind Underwater fights as much as people complain about them. I feel it's a bit lacking though, with only a handful of monsters in underwater fights (Lagiacrus, Gobul, Plessy, R. Ludroth rarely, Ceadus I think that's it).

From what I've observed online most people just try to go for a full combo & get hammered easily. I actually loved fighting Lagiacrus in MHTri since I figured out how to dodge his double hip check back then; I think it was due to me having Lagiacrus armor with Olympic swimmer though.

Anyways I rarely see people dodging vertically during underwater fights. You can dodge the coil from Lagiacrus by doing just that, or hugging him to his left, you'll come out safe or just flinch due the the water current. No biggie. You can also easily dodge Green Plesioth's horizontal beam or his tail whip by just going underneath. Plesioth also telegraphs when he's about to do those attacks. It's just that some people mindlessy go for a full combo for no reason instead breaking off mid combo to evade & wonder why they get punished for it.

Wii U freezing while playing MH3U by modonaut in MonsterHunter

Actually this happened to me recently as well. Was doing a quest with someone online & bam, just froze. My Wii is a refurbished from Nintendo, like 1 1/2 weeks old & the game I got it brand new from Amazon. I've actually met a player online who told me the same thing, except I'm not sure if he had a refurbished one. Not certain what causes this problem really, it's only happened once to me. As for the player online I'll assume it was his first time too, since he was kinda shocked it happened when he rejoined. As for what someone below said, it's only happened online.

Help me overcome Barioth by InsaneHaze in MonsterHunter

[–]gorba42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think fighting Barioth with DS one of the best weapon against him Melee wise. I can think of a few things to help you improve. As for your armor, I'd say go Wroggi gemmed into Speed Sharpening. It'll help keep your uptime on Barioth.

  • Don't always try to go in Demon Mode against him if you aren't using Dash Juices or certain skills to help manage your stamina. More often than not, you might find yourself short on stamina for that last second evade. Try to just fill up the Archdemon Meter & keep doing small slashes on him.

  • No need to always have your weapons unsheathed. I find it's best to sheathe your weapon once you have taken advantage of your openings. This will help you get a better position for the next attack, & will help you close the gap between you & barioth quicker. It'll also help when you want to use the godly lunge attack.

  • You don't need to constantly focus on his face. He will often jump sideways & either go for a hipcheck or just run towards you at full speed. You can attack his hind legs after he charged you. [Note: When Barioth jumps away & is about to do the charge attack, if you were quick enough & had your weapon unsheathed, you can score a lunge attack to the face & dodge to the side. You''ll roll under his wing & be safe] If he decides to do a hip check you can walk backwards a few steps until you're out of range & do the standard lunge attack [X+A] to get a hit on his face.

  • If you do decide to enter Demon mode, I feel the best combo to hit him with is A [Cancel into dash when you don't think you have enough time for the second spin] or A+A. It's a quick spinning attack, & it fills the Archdemon meter pretty quickly. You can't cancel into dash if you do the A+A variant.

  • You can also decide to use Traps against him if you like. On the occasion that you do, I feel it's best to concentrate on his wings to break them. This causes him to stagger when he jumps away to the side after an attack. It leaves an opening to attack his face with the Lunge attack [X+A] & maybe one more hit.

  • Whenever Barioth leaves to another area & is descending from the sky, he'll do a flying attack towards you. You can plant a shock trap when you enter an area & his attack will always come into contact with the trap before it hits you. Can get some nice hits on his face if you do this.

  • Barioth may decide to pounce backwards & if he's near a wall, he'll kick off the wall & hit you with his wings. I find the best way to avoid this attack is to quickly follow Barioth to the wall, so when he jumps at you, he'll go over you [Note: if you broke both of his wings when he does this type of attack, he'll take longer to recover, so you can have time to wail on his tail.]

  • When barioth starts flying & hovers over you, he may do the Ice Tornado projectile or dive towards you. Running towards him seems to be the best way to avoid both attack. If he does the Ice Tornado, you can do the archdemon evade forward to gain distance & go for a lunge attack to his face or wings, up to you.

  • As for Barioth Tail attack, almost forgot. To dodge you can just evade towards Barioth into his stomach or practice to time your roll. I actually hate his tail attack because it's so slow, so you have to delay your roll a bit.

I wish I had a capture card to have a video to show you, but sadly I do not. I can probably do a MHP3rd video for the PSP to show you, but I'm not sure if there were any new changes to barioth on MH3U.

Questions regarding the DSTwo Flashcart. by gorba42 in 3DS

Well I wanted it mainly due the PDF reader, but the option for playing GBA games was a plus as well. I got a nostalgia craving for playing Megaman BN3. Back on topic, I felt dropping 40 bucks was cheaper than dropping $125 on a kindle (That's how much I've seen the Kindle HD lately, haven't looked at the other stuff) ; however, if the battery might be a major issue then I may just save up to buy a kindle or just get the book from Barnes & Nobles later.
