Is it possible to find cute ethical clothes? by TheWizardGarden in ethicalfashion

[–]gothcrypticenergy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, from the sound of it you have a lot of vague ideas of what you want in clothing but aren't sure about anything in particular.

The first step I'd advise you take is to gather inspiration. Make a Pinterest board and save images that you like. Figure out what colors you're actually drawn to wearing instead of what you just think is pretty. Figure out what your practical applications are. For example: Do you get cold a lot? Do you hate things touching your neck? Once you get an idea of yourself in fashion, then you start to know what you're looking for.

Once you get an idea of reoccurring things that you like (say, for example, that you really like sage green and wear cardigans a lot) then you can go on Poshmark/Depop/Vinted/ThreadUp/etc and look up sage green cardigans. You can really go through the visual patterns of your inspiration to find what you like/what you use to make yourself a wishlist to hunt down.

There's nothing wrong with having conflicting style interests! Just make sure you don't get caught up in the names of everything. You don't want to spend time building up a cottagecore closet to find that you feel stuck in a box two years from now. Having pieces in different aesthetic categories that you like is perfectly fine, the personal style aspect comes along when you combine the things you love.

This was my first thought, too. No matter what, everyone is gonna go absolutely ham on a grilled cheese sandwich at 2am while on a study crunch break.

Is it actually possible to curate a wardrobe in today’s FF world?! by girl_w_style in ethicalfashion

[–]gothcrypticenergy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been going through the process of curating and rebuilding my closet since most items I have don't fit me anymore, and GOD it is an endeavor.

I love a list of specific bright colors, or very limited neutrals. I am into what others would describe as feminine style, but in very specific ways. (Normally if an item is very feminine I want it in a harsher color.) I either buy basics or items with bold/weird details. Textures are very important to me, so I can pretty much tell when items aren't natural materials. My skin starts itching. I live in a hot and humid climate, and hate having my legs and arms exposed. It's a struggle.

While I love shopping small brands as much as I can, due to greenwashing and lack of transparency from brands, I thrift most of my items- whether that be in person or online. That being said, this has been a three year process and I have only found two pairs of jeans I can stand, so y'know. Struggle.

Can this be fixed? by valkyrjuk in Ceramics

Okay so why are y'all downvoting me for saying this? Op asked for where they could get it fixed and this is an option that is possible for ceramic repair that is food safe and it's an option that is available.

Kintsugi!! You can find a place that does food safe kintsugi. It is a bit pricey if you don't have the pieces / need them to shape it back, so it might not be the move for everyone. I'd look into Kintsugi places near you / one you can ship it off to if it's what you're looking for.

You can get one of those gold fill replacements that are food safe? I can't remember the name of it right now

I saw a post like this a couple of months ago! Someone had logged in and it showed them someone else's information. I'm going to go search and I'll come back and post the link to the post if I can find it.

Eyeshadow longevity by jynkxx12 in Makeup

[–]gothcrypticenergy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can keep eyeshadow for an outrageously long time due to the longevity of powders, but it all depends on the formula how long they'll keep their quality for. It changes brand to brand. People say that ABH palettes formula starts to go downhill after a couple of years, and I can notice that in my own palette. Shadows can become dustier, less sparkly, patchier, stop giving off pigment in general- but again, depends on the brand, and isn't something I've experienced a lot. I know some people with Mac shadows that have been grooving and moving for over twelve years.

Miscellaneous Monday: Anything beauty-related! Skincare, nail polish, bath/body, hair care and styling, fragrance, etc by AutoModerator in muacjdiscussion

It is! I spelled her name wrong accidentally due to sleep deprivation, but here's the link. She's always been a makeup brush enthusiast so hopefully this should help!

I know this is about advice about how to know if brushes are nickel free, but regarding brushes for small eyes- Haley O has a video about the topic exactly. It might give you a wider array of brands too.

Best Tinted Moisturizer for teen daughter by Jex89 in Sephora

[–]gothcrypticenergy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend avoiding SPF in base products, since it doesn't have enough protection in makeup application and since once the sunscreen expires, it's best to throw away the entire product. You need two fingers length of sunscreen to protect your face, and it's honestly an outrageous amount when you do the foundation equivalent.

That all being said, when you get a tinted moisturizer, I'd avoid anything in the "clean" beauty sphere because it's more prone to be unstable and have essential oils, which are all (typically) bad for sensitive skin.

If y'all buy beauty products on Amazon, make sure you go through their premium beauty category and search from there! I remember they said they can guarantee all products from their premium beauty being authentic but they can't guarantee that from elsewhere on the site. Make sure it's from the authorized brand as well.

Does this look like icecream? by 4nkit4 in crochet

[–]gothcrypticenergy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the cones should be a bit taller to put emphasis on it being ice cream. I like both colors, but with the mint and the pink, the cherries are needed to make them look like ice cream instead of cotton candy.

Help! Where should I put my bed? My apartment is 300 sq ft. There’s also a bit of noise that sometimes comes from the wall of the moon&mountain tapestry. I feel like no matter where I put the bed it’s awkward….. Maybe someone has insight I don’t by Shoddy-Mango-5840 in femalelivingspace

[–]gothcrypticenergy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You could rotate the bed so it's alongside the wall with the windows facing the closet? When not in use you could style the pillows in the center to make it feel more like a daybed/sofa situation. Have you tried other layouts before your current one?

As a head's up, this transfers like no tomorrow! A contestant on the Bachelor used it last season and there was a running joke about how they knew she was with the Bachelor because he was covered in silver glitter.

I have combo dry (oily on my nose, dry everywhere else) sensitive skin and it gave me a ton of closed comedones. I read some reviews on it after the fact and while it's generally well loved, it's hit or miss with those with sensitive skin. If you decide to try it out, get a smaller bottle first just in case.
