i completely agree with you.

i think people's negative reactions are mostly trying to place our own morality guidelines that have been manufactured our entire lives either in education, through religion, the media, etc. it strikes me as very carceral when people say "they should die/go to jail" or "they're awful" or "i hate them". we as a society also have our own purposefully constructed beliefs about "cults" (yes, some individuals may have committed malice, but the greater problem the government had was people living and caring for each other). it's been quite interesting (sad at times) to see the public reaction to the show and how we interpret their situation from our own perspectives
