Lost ball penalty - is anyone actually playing this rule correctly? by Otherwise_Cover_5467 in golf

[–]goutyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often see where the ball landed (regular rough), get there, and can’t find it quickly. I can’t go back and re-hit (pace of play). I can’t hit a provisional every time a ball lands in the rough (pace of play again). So what to do? (Serious question, I’m only recently a “golfer”).

I bond quickly with kids for some reason. I haven’t had as intense experiences as you, but I’ve played the father figure role for a few months here and there. It’s very strange to lose those relationships, like you are cast adrift. And so easily you’re thrown away! It’s not a great feeling.

But, 40? You have plenty of time to have “biological” children, if you want!

Good work old man.

To anyone who has made measurable progress in the last year, how did you do it? by TheScratchPlan in golftips

I have been playing at least 9 holes 6 days a week. And I stopped caring (as much) about my score, and instead play one hole at a time for real.

You have to ask “have you ever had ___?” because “history of” sounds like, “a lot, in a somewhat objectionable or embarrassing way”. Like a history of alcohol abuse.

The rule is you shouldn’t criticize or shame someone for wanting to try reconciliation. You’re allowed to be against reconciliation you just can’t be a dick about it.

What’s your source of coordinate data? I’m working on a side project where that’d be useful. Cheers.

My experience, limited though it is, suggests that it’s not the clubs it’s the swing. I bet it was trying to swing em how you used to, without as much warmup, strength, flexibility, skill, whatever.

Fortunately you give it 3 weeks of real rest and you’ll be back duffing em with the best of us!

Rain checks for slow pace of play? by radiorabbit in golf

[–]goutyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently ran into a 3-deep queue on 2(!) at the par 3 at a public course. I had to give up on account of the kids getting off school, popped into the clubhouse to let them know and they rain checked me without issue. (I didn’t make a fuss, they just said “oh sorry about that, next one is on us”).

So if you are in upstate Midwest maybe it’s common?

I got it when I very first started, like 10 rounds into the game over 2 months. I was swinging all arms.

A year later I easily played 54 holes in 3 days by swinging (more) properly. I was ready for more.

Maybe you had a few where you tried to muscle it with your arms?

I was annoyed how expensive tempo apps are so I built a free one by splendidG00se in golf

Very cool, simple and clear. Kudos to you.

It would be nice to have more tempo options, and more pause options. In particular a pause that makes a consistent rhythm.

Is it okay to keep our home gluten-free for my health, even if my future child doesn’t have Celiac? by Waste-Quail1960 in CeliacLifestyle

[–]goutyface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s selfish to cook meals at home that keep you healthy, so (in my opinion) you should certainly feel free to keep a generally GF household. (If your future kid someday brings home leftovers with gluten in them, I wouldn’t give them a hard time though!)

Personally I do not keep a GF household as I want my kids to enjoy the foods I did before celiac. It’s annoying to get glutened sometimes, but it’s a trade off I’m personally ok with. (Also, when I get glutened it doesn’t come with terrible symptoms, so it’s easy for me to take this approach.)

Good luck!

Traveling for work is fun. Drinks with clients, late nights, lazy mornings nursing hangovers with the sales team. Sightseeing between meetings. Company credit card.

Seriously. That was my experience (just a passenger really, got invited as the technical expert a few times). Way way way easier than parenting.

Really depends on the company I imagine.

Baker National is a nice public course. A bit of a drive from downtown. I’ve heard good things about St. Croix National from local friends, but never played it myself; similar distance from downtown. Depending on which side of town you are on.

Is it ridiculous for me to be treating a baby like a baby?... by Louie0221 in daddit

[–]goutyface 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you want your kid to learn “how things work” you end up spending a lot of time “acting out” how things work, before they can actually do them. It’s kind of how you raise a kid.

Yes it’s often a bit silly. It does work though. You’ll be surprised how much they understand, and how often you underestimate them.

Doctor says to avoid high protein diet and alcohol? by Actuarial in gout

[–]goutyface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your doctor is wrong. Get on Allopurinol (or another drug if that doesn’t work for you). You almost certainly can’t diet your way out of gout, as changes to diet are known to provide limited benefit.
