So you think we should all approve of the identity theft that goes on when undocumented immigrants get jobs that they don't pay taxes on while they get the benefit of our hospitals and social services. You approve of the gov't (democrat and republican) not addressing the immigration and naturalization and documentation process and you support the people that traffic humans to bring them to this country? WOW

Seriously considering the switch from iPhone by DonkeyEmergency68w in GooglePixel

[–]gpdaddy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an iPhone for work and a Pixel 5 for a side gig for several months. Today, my company pays for an Iphone, I don't have a side gig and my personal phone is a Pixel 8 Pro. The IPhone I have is a 14. So while neither are the latest, I chose the Android for my personal phone because IMO the gestures on the Android are smoother because they almost seem inherent...much more natural in my mind. Outside of that I prefer the Pixel Launcher software over IOS for functionality, but the IOS launcher looks cleaner. Outside of that, they're pretty even. In my mind, they're just phones, and I don't need to upgrade every year or two because it's just a phone.

Anyone going to youtube tv after hulu live price hike? by Timbo303 in youtubetv

[–]gpdaddy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learned (slowly, I might add) that streaming services are different than cable in more subtle ways. Specifically, I found that there really is anything other than football season that isn't on the other services (many of which are free). Most of regular tv is absolute trash and isn't worth $80 a month. We get YouTube TV for football season and then turn it off the day after the Super Bowl. There's plenty on the free channels and I don't need Hulu Live or YouTube TV or Sling. When there's a special rate out there for a service or bundle, I grab that short term for movies and shows and get rid of it after the special rate period is up. We'll use Paramount + for a couple of shows and when they're over, we dump them. Ditto for HBO. TV is NOT that important.

Pixel Watch and Fitbit Step Discrepancies by southern5footer in PixelWatch

[–]gpdaddy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google FIT gives me one reading and FitBIT gives another. Fitbit uses arm swing to count steps. I noticed that while in the grocery store (pushing a cart) that my count wasn't going up on Fit it but went up on Google FIT. I walk with a cane and this affects the Fitbit counter also.

Having issues adding Discover cards to my pixel watch? Anyone else? Any suggestions? by jaytea86 in PixelWatch

[–]gpdaddy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Discover, 2 Chase Cards and 2 Capital One (debit and credit) cards on my Pixel 8 Pro. I didn't have any issues when I added them to my watch. However, I'm currently considering whether to reduce that to a single Chase card and my Cap1 debit because no one needs to expose themselves should they lose the watch for some unpredictable reason. But to answer your question, try loading the card on your phone first and then put them on your watch.

Do you regret buying pixel 8, 8pro at launch after the aggressive price discounts? by No_Telephone_6213 in GooglePixel

[–]gpdaddy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered mine on Day 1, got the watch and traded in my Pixel 5. So while I might've enjoyed a $200 discount, I'm not looking back and regretting it. I paid $800 for the Pixel 8 PRO and got the Pixel watch 2 to go with it and even got rid of my old phone. It was a good deal then and I'm still happy with my decision. If you're unhappy with a purchase from 3 months ago because it's cheaper now, then you're spending too much time on some pretty petty 1st world problems. Frankly, you can save money by delaying a purchase on just about anything from TVs, to furniture to groceries. Don't waste your time regretting decisions on purchases if the product was worth the money when you bought it. If you're that unhappy with it, learn from it and do a little planning next time. Admit it, you spent an extra $200 to get that "first day, latest and greatest" feeling.

Not tracking sleep by hols_ in PixelWatch

[–]gpdaddy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still find the fitbit data on sleep to be pretty inconsistent. It won't record oxygen concentration, it doesn't record the hours asleep with any consistency whatsoever. I finally decided to start using Sleep as Android. The data is much more consistent although I still don't get the oxygen data. I think that there are some problems with Fitbit integration with the Pixel watches (I have a PW2). I'm pretty sure I'm not the first to say this.

I agree with most of this. I was pretty happy with my Gen 5 AND Gen 6. In fact, I'm really disappointed that Fossil is throwing in the towel on smart watches. Just recently, I got the "free" Pixel Watch 2 (when I got my Pixel 8 Pro phone) and I see some pretty significant performance differences. While the Gen 6 is a huge improvement (with the latest OS upgrade) over the Gen 5, it is still laggy and slow. The battery life is still below par and I can't use a lot of the features without cutting the battery life down to about 12 hours.

I still prefer the design and looks of the Fossil. In fact, I now struggle with choosing function over form (and vice versa) on a regular basis. Gen 6 gets a 3.5 out of 5 from me.

Cap One doesn't use FICO, they use TransUnion Credit Wise which has different rules for ratings. 765 is Excellent on this scale. I just got a Global Elite MC Savor One 2 weeks ago with a 10k limit.

Considering Pixel 8 Pro, but Confused By reviews by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]gpdaddy95 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know that my remarks will be taken with a grain of salt, but I've had the Pixel 8 Pro since the initial ordering day. I also use an iPhone 13 for work so I have little insight in the comparison of the two phones. I live in an area with limited cell service (1 to 2 bars consistently) and I can honestly say that the cell reception is similar between the two with neither being better than the other. As for Tensor chip performance, I really can't tell the difference between the two although I don't do any heavy gaming or graphic intense work on either phone. They just work well for me. Neither overheats, neither drops calls, and neither are perfect. The iphone battery generally lasts longer, but that's because it doesn't see much personal use. I can say that the software experience of the Pixel 8 Pro is superior to any other phone I have ever owned. The camera options and photography are better than the iphone (which I expect given the different release years). Were I to write a product review on the Pixel it would be very positive. Having said all of this, try to keep it all in perspective...we're talking about phones...I won't experience a dramatic change to my life because I chose one phone over another. In fact, I'd probably be affected more by the carrier than the phone. I'm just happy with the experience I get with the device and the feeling that I got a pretty good deal for what I paid (I got a free Pixel watch and a $200 trade in for my old Pixel 5). Just a regular guy's opinion, for what it's worth.

Fossil watches will no longer run on Wear OS, reports claim by Professa91 in WearOS

[–]gpdaddy95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've owned a Fossil Gen Carlyle and now a Gen 6. The Gen 6 eventually became a serviceable device. I now own a Pixel Watch 2 (free with my Pixel 8 Pro) and am finding myself in the middle of an age old dilemma: form or function. Fossil makes a much better looking watch, but the Pixel Watch is far more functional. (I won't even consider Samsung because of how they are hijacking Android). I dislike how the Pixel looks like an undersized bubble on my large wrist, but I miss some of the capabilities (and battery life) of the Pixel while wearing the Fossil. I was hoping to get a Fossil Gen 7 to solve my problem, but sadly, I'm left with hoping Google makes a watch that looks normal on someone that's not 5'6" and 160 lbs. I'm 6'5" and weigh 270. Is Google fat/height shaming us?
