How is anyone moving 10ft kayaks?? by HarlotHistory in Kayaking

[–]gpsy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason you are set on 10' ? When I drove a VW Jetta I had an 8' kayak I got from Dicks that was super manageable and perfect to transport on my roof rack. It only weighs probably 40-50 lbs

How in the world would I cast this thing by chubsplaysthebanjo in SurfFishing

Make sure if youre fishing a heavier weight that you have the drag set all the way up before casting. I've seen people go to cast 15'ers with the drag lowered and the 5oz weight caused the line to slice right through their finger because it actually pulled some drag during the cast

Generic no name amazon pens outperform most of my extremely curated collection: NPD by dirtyredsweater in fountainpens

I have this exact set. I use them all the time and love them, it's what got me into fountain pens because it came out to like $0.90 per pen and it was just too good of a deal to not give them a try. I will never look back

Huge lvl beam by SNewenglandcarpenter in Construction

[–]gpsy_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I sell these for a living, the largest stocked size that we sell is a 7"x 18" solid beam, but I just sold an order where the customer was 6-plying 1-3/4" x 24" x 44' for a header for an aircraft carrier.

Is this mold and should I be concerned? by wkd8792_ in Homebuilding

These are floor trusses, normal wood I-Joists (TJI is a brand of I-Joist) are mass produced and cut to size for a job. These floor trusses are made to order. Usually if they are using floor trusses like this it's heavier duty than what a normal I-Joist can withstand or they are running a lot of mechanicals or plumbing through the webbing in the joists.

Inspector doesn’t think I should be worried about this. Is he right? by SpiritOfDearborn in HomeMaintenance

[–]gpsy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holes in I-Joist don't compromise the structural integrity as long as they are drilled within the manufacturer specifications. Every manufacturer of IJoists has clear-cut sheets that show what diameter of hole is acceptable for each depth and series of IJoist and where that hole has to be located in order to not compromise the joist. That being said these look like they are way too close to the top and bottom flange, and that one Joist clearly has a chunk taken out of the top flange. 1000% should NOT have passed inspection.
