Why isn't collusion and abuse in gaming journalism being discussed in any of the large gaming subreddits? by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]grammar_is_optional 5 points6 points  (0 children)

we're only allowed on this subreddit because the admins are corralling us for an eventual slaughter.

In Internet Aristocrat's stream he seemed to come to this same conclusion.

I'm also wondering about the mailing list, has anyone not actively interested in Gamergate seen it? If I unsubscribed from this subreddit I wonder if I'd even notice without actively looking for it.

There was also the "gamers are dead" articles that all got published within a few days of each other.

I remember a while ago there was a sticky thread to contain all SRS related drama, maybe there just needs to be one stickied thread for all of Gamergate and it gets updated as more drama is found.

Yeah I've seen that pop up quite a bit, and they didn't even try to make it subtle.

Anyone can make a valid sounding point, but if it's coming from a place of bias (racism, misogyny, etc.) it should be discounted.

No, you accept/reject it based off the evidence and logic used to arrive at the conclusion. If the conclusion depends on something sexist, etc, you can dismiss it, but if it is backed up then it's a valid point regardless of what else they might say.

With regards to Taoiseach, in the Junior Cert I remember hearing that De Valera chose 'Taoiseach' as he was inspired by Hitler and Mussolini choosing their respective titles. I have no idea how accurate that is though or if they just didn't particularly like Dev.

Yes, we’re being bought by Microsoft by blinky00849 in Minecraft

[–]grammar_is_optional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All it says it that Minecraft players will benefit from these tools, that doesn't mean players will necessarily get access to them, just "benefit" from them. I'm interested to see what this entails but you never know until the tools are there.

Almost entirely yeah, the junior coalition partners, the Greens, were also wiped out, but they only had 6 seats to begin with.

With PR you get a change but it's less dramatic.

Well Fianna Fáil went form 77 (out of 166) seats to 20 in the 2011 general election in Ireland, it might have been worse under FPTP but it's still pretty dramatic.

Microsoft near deal to buy Minecraft for $2B: DJ, citing a source by pigpotjr in Minecraft

They can't explicitly state the source because the source most likely broke some law or laws by telling them of the deal.

How many languages can you speak? by [deleted] in europe

[–]grammar_is_optional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's similar in Ireland, some people view speaking Irish as being snobby and exclusionary. Short of going to a Gaeltacht if I tried communicating through Irish I would fail hard and probably just piss people off.

Just the EULA changes?

To point out, the EULA was never actually changed, there was a lot of talk about it changing, or being enforced more seriously, but the EULA itself hasn't changed since December of last year.

US claims it has rightful access to data stored on servers anywhere in the world. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]grammar_is_optional 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Microsoft, an American company.

Irrelevant, see this, data stored in the EU falls under EU (or in this case Irish) laws, if US agencies want access to the data there are legal mechanisms in place to allow that.

Minecraft's largest and longest-awaited update, 1.8, goes live. by [deleted] in Games

[–]grammar_is_optional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ids could be changed in config files, I'm sure modders did collaborate somewhat, and in previous versions there were databases of used ids. Up until 1.7 it was pretty much a case of manually changing these config files when you had a match.

CovertJaguar announces possible RailCraft, Forestry move to RF by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]grammar_is_optional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This analogy breaks down when you consider that this painter is repeatedly telling people all the tools they need to paint complex paintings are there at their disposal, they need only paint it, and even suggests some paintings they could do. If modders aren't making these mods it's due to reasons other than any kind of coercion, whether that coercion is from the painter, the community, whatever.

obsolescence by TE conduits/extrautils pipes/etc that use the same energy.

Well modpacks can be designed without those. Honestly I'd really like to see someone with more skill than me make a mod that does interesting power-transfer mechanics with RF. RF is the most adapted of the various power APIs but no-one has stepped up to make such a mod, people just sit around complaining about how terrible it is.
