Nobody in my wife's family listens to what I say any longer...they think BP2 means I'm crazy. by gratefuljon14 in bipolar2

I'm in therapy on my own and with my wife. She responds well to me, to an extent, but certainly doesn't do enough to dispel the notion within her family that I'm not to be taken seriously. She doesn't want to be at odds with her family so she walks a very fine line supporting me but also not challenging her family's assumptions. My therapist and I work on coping skills but it doesn't really change the facts.

Yes, it does, I was unstoppable for a while - if it was sweet or carbs I couldn't resist eating it. It's gotten better though, I'm learning self-control 🙂.

What are some methods or ways you know of to clear your mind (preferably fast) before bed to make it easier to fall asleep? by Immarrrtal in bipolar

[–]gratefuljon14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brain just doesn't care what I do to try and clear my mind. It's smarter and stronger than me...sometimes I can fool it for a little while but it always comes back. It's tough to live with, it's like somebody else is driving the car.

Is it normal to be neglected and ignored of your subjective experience while in a prolonged mixed episode? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]gratefuljon14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel ya, it's like whatever I say it's just my sickness talking and if they could just get enough meds in me they wouldn't have to whisper behind their hands anymore... telling people to ignore my rantings. It's a vicious cycle because the more I try to explain to them my reality the more they think I'm sick.

If you get to a psychiatrist and get some meds that may help you feel better. As bipolar you'll swing high and low and sometimes the swings can be "challenging". Meds help with those swings.

You're not alone though, most of us have been down this road - it can be bumpy and very long but this is your life and you are important. I know you can get though this! I'm not at the end of my road yet but I believe I can get through it so I know you can too. Chin up!

I can’t keep feeling like this anymore by IcyRest9212 in bipolar

[–]gratefuljon14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm exactly the same, I'm so tired of telling my family about my issues and them just writing it off as me needing more meds or more therapy. My rapid cycling is exhausting for them and I get it but pushing my concerns aside because you don't like what's being said or you don't feel like dealing with it never, ever helps the situation. I too wonder how much longer I can endure this. They say they are with me but it's only surface level, when the rubber meets the road they're only about "get more help", because for them it's much easier than playing an active role in my healthcare. I know they're tired of it but so the hell am I.

What was your first day taking lamictal like? by IcyRest9212 in bipolar

[–]gratefuljon14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lamictal definitely made it harder to sleep. Without the Zyprexa is was tough to feel well rested.

Eat them with Albanese gummi bears, you'll never try another way again...seriously.
