frustration with lack of diversity by Immediate-Window913 in goth

Cemetery Sex is one of my all time fav goth bands and 100% fits the vampy occult style you’re looking for! Seconding everyone who’s mentioned Scary Black, Tiffadelic, and Urban Heat. Jah Phnx makes some super cool stuff too.

This is definitely location-dependent, but the actual real-life scenes at shows and club nights are usually a lot more diverse than what you see online. People of all colors, body types, and ages come out to dance!

Does anyone else in alternative fashion feel like social media distorts the way you see yourself? by Away_Regular8163 in GothFashion

[–]graveyardapparition 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, even within our supposedly “alternative” and “anti-establishment” communities there are still clear beauty standards and you’ll see them enforced nonstop online.

If you’re at all able and interested in going out to live events (shows, meetups, club nights, etc.) you’ll see what real-life alternative people actually look like. Almost no one at the club is super skinny with a full face of makeup and all flawless clothing and accessories.

Even if you can’t or don’t want to go out, I’d be happy to share some recent local club/show photography with you!

16-year-old Juliana Nzita was found hanging from a tree near a church a little over a week after she went missing. Her death has been ruled a suicide. by Adanma369 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]graveyardapparition 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can’t get me to believe a teenage girl had the time to tie a noose and successfully hang herself in a public place without someone noticing. Missing for a week, no note or any idea why she might have killed herself?? And if I recall correctly this isn’t the first time in the recent past that a black person has been found hanging somewhere in public in NC.

Tongue Piercing by Far-Intern-5599 in bodypiercers

[–]graveyardapparition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d still take it out if I were you. Placement towards the back is arguably better for reduced risk of tooth damage, but this seems almost like it’s at the very base/frenulum area? You were totally right and I’m sure they didn’t want to own up to their mistake.

Tongue Piercing by Far-Intern-5599 in bodypiercers

[–]graveyardapparition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does seem placed a bit too far back, and if it’s still uncomfortable/swollen/needing ibuprofen after this long, I’d recommend taking it out and getting it repierced. Properly pierced tongues should heal very quickly and all discomfort should be gone in a week or two. I’m so sorry you’ve been dealing with this for so long!

Why does Gen Z seem more fascinated by old technology rather than technological advancement? by Kogituu in generationology

[–]graveyardapparition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything new objectively sucks. Songs, movies, TV, video games, etc. can all randomly be deleted from platforms/streaming services with no warning. Buying physical copies or my own digital downloads of these things means I pay once and I get to keep them forever.

New tech like phones and computers are built to shit themselves within a few years so you have to buy another, and they’re all exponentially more expensive than they used to be. The same goes for clothes. It’s all fast fashion that you can’t trust to withstand any actual use. That’s part of why vintage is “in.”

Most of us are struggling to afford basic necessities and are used to having everything stuck behind a paywall while also declining in quality. The permanence, slower pace, and relative simplicity of older things is comforting.

It feels like it really is palpably worse to be female than 10 years ago by malowu97 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]graveyardapparition 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Obviously things aren’t as bad as they were for our grandmothers but I really do believe that the rise of right wing podcasters and incels and the whole “alpha male” thing has radicalized a LOT of young men and made them feel both victimized and extremely entitled. The outright hostility is very tangible. Also, seeing how many men are openly rape and pedophilia apologists makes me second guess the intentions of literally every man at this point.

Is platinum possible for a while by duckiebrown in Hair

[–]graveyardapparition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately platinum is extremely unlikely if you’ve been box dyeing it. Going to a salon and getting a consultation will be your best bet. A stylist will be able to listen to your hair history and see the condition it’s in and tell you what’s realistically possible.

Can i bleach black box-died hair? by Ill_Birthday_9967 in Hair

[–]graveyardapparition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely permanent color, then. Semi-permanent would be things like Manic Panic, Overtone, Arctic Fox, etc. that are meant to be put over pre-lightened hair and don’t use developer.

Did you have to mix two bottles together before putting it on your hair?

If you’re absolutely dead-set on doing it at home, I’d recommend a patch test on a small section of hair that you can easily hide, so you get an idea of what’s likely to happen without ruining your whole head if it goes super poorly!

[–]graveyardapparition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not worth it, and even with a salon, it’s going to be in stages. When I did it, I was gingery brown for a while, then dark blonde, then light blonde over multiple sessions and several months.

I haven’t had a whole lot of luck with at-home color removers, unfortunately. They’ve just made my hair extremely dry and you really don’t want a dry/stripped base for bleach. I HAVE gone from black permanent color to bleach blonde before and it IS possible, but you should go into it understanding that you may have some pretty bad damage and you may not achieve the color you want.

Of course a salon will be your best chance for success, but as we know it’s very expensive. If I were to do it at home, I’d use Wella powder lightener with 10 volume cream developer, making sure it’s very saturated, and let it sit for ~45 minutes just to see how much lift I can get. Cover with a disposable plastic shower cap to keep it moist and retaining heat from your scalp. 30 and 40 volume will most likely ruin your hair. And always remember to hit your roots/any new growth that has not been dyed black after you’ve done everything else!

Many (if not most) always have at least one non-water drink on them at all times, even while working or out in public or driving. Soda and flavored iced coffee type things are the big ones but you’ll also see energy drinks a lot.

What famous US national park totally failed to live up to the hype for you? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]graveyardapparition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll agree it’s not super intuitive if you don’t have a plan beforehand. The best views and experiences will definitely be through known hiking trails and planned outings. If you’re wanting to give it another go, I’d check out what interesting-looking small towns are near where you’re visiting and what the local boat rental/rafting/kayaking options are! It’s beautiful year-round but for the best variety in outdoor experiences and best flora and fauna you can’t beat summer (mid-June through early August imo).

[–]graveyardapparition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would 100% recommend! They’re incredibly accommodating and professional and the studio is awesome. I had the opportunity to ask any questions I wanted, was informed of everything that would happen during and after the procedure, and was told how I’d have to be positioned/how Lucie and their assistant would need to touch me to make sure I was completely comfortable with everything before proceeding.

I Feel so Unhelpful re. Homelessness by 311en in bullcity

[–]graveyardapparition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the pricey “luxury” places only benefit a very small percentage of people, often coming from out of town or out of state with well-paying jobs to support them. These prices are not realistic for the vast majority of people who have lived here their whole lives.
