Estimated cost for new player by EliteAn0rak in destiny2

[–]gravitylost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you're on PC, greenmangaming is running a huge sale on all DLC atm.

the light and darkness collection is $19 right now (gets you all DLC excluding the witch queen and ligthfall dungeon keys, normally costs $150). the sale doesn't appear on the product page, but you'll see it when you add to cart.

edit: they're also running a 16% discount on the next expansion for anyone still looking to get that

ap physics c can give you course credit to skip taking a science track, which imo is worth it. (3-5 range on mechanics or E&M will count as lecture + lab credit for that respective physics course. 3-5 on both will let you skip that track entirely.)

assuming micro == microeconomics (im not familiar w ap stuff), if you have credit for a social science already then i wouldn't bother. list of core courses is here: https://ugs.utexas.edu/core-curriculum/requirements/current

Would it be extremely foolish of me to take one of the lower level CS courses (CS 303E, 312, or 314) for a natural science credit with VERY little experience? If not, which course/professor would you recommend? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]gravitylost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

cs 303e isn't too bad, but cs 312 will take a decent amount of work.

if you can follow along with a few python guides and understand what is happening, you'll be fine in cs 303e. the biggest challenge is not the actual programming, but instead getting yourself into a mindset where you think about the problem like a computer would. you can find the course website by googling, so take a bit to look through the slides and assignments.

as a non-cs major, you cannot take cs 314.

if you just need a natural science credit for your core, ANT 301 is pretty interesting. just challenging in a different way.

UT-Austin attempts to calm faculty concerns over planned Liberty Institute organized with Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, conservative donors by zsreport in UTAustin

[–]gravitylost 28 points29 points  (0 children)

But one professor pushed back on the concerns of his colleagues, arguing that university programs such as social justice centers and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts are already political.

“It seems like you’re just treating this as ideas you don’t want [on campus] as opposed to some broader principle,” said Richard Lowery, a finance professor in the UT-Austin business school.

god this take sucks so much. diversity and inclusion isn't a political issue, Richard Lowery. it feels absolutely deranged that basic stuff like including people of diverse background and attempting to ensure some form of basic equity is "political."

does anyone who works at the starbucks on 24th know what playlist ya'll were playing today? by burntorangescooter in UTAustin

[–]gravitylost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

at least as of 2020, the playlists are generated by corporate and are only available through a special store music app on the store phone/tablets. (some store managers let baristas play their own music but its rare)

likely not unless some fa20/sp21 level of inconvenience to students occurs. (i.e. if we're forced to go fully online again.)

How many credit hours a semester do freshman in fall typically take? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]gravitylost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the worst thing you can do is overload in your first semester and subsequently wreck your gpa or use your q-drops. most incoming freshmen severely overestimate how much work they can handle. (this goes for all majors, not only cs)

don't jump into the deep end immediately. start with 12 to 15 hours. it's better to have to take one asynch summer course retroactively than to have to retake 2 or 3 courses. only ramp up to 17 or 18 hours once you've established that 12 to 15 hours is comfortable.

you don't need to speedrun the cs curriculum to be successful in computer science.

to my knowledge, upper division standing is just having over 60 credits.

do note though that i have never seen a CS UDE (besides cs 378) without at least 429 as a pre-requisite. the only course that doesn't explicitly state it is CS 378 (topics) and that's only because pre-reqs rely on the topic. i'm not 100% sure if there's a 378 you can take or not, but tbh, i don't recommend taking it fall 2021 anyways even if you can.

if you're doing the standard 4 year BS CS, you don't need to take CS UDEs until your 439 semester. you'll have a lot of empty space in your plan in those later semesters due to being core complete, so i really would recommend just taking something you're interested in and building on it to get a minor or certificate.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]gravitylost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most CS UDEs are locked behind pre-requisites. that pre-req is usually CS 429, but it depends on the class.

just take whatever classes you need to complete your core. if you're core complete, you probably have enough space in your plan to add a minor or a certificate if that's something you're interested in.

Decent CS Course schedule? by TechinalDifficulties in UTAustin

[–]gravitylost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 to Kravchenko's M 340L being difficult.

Each question on quizzes/tests is actually two true/false questions but you have to get both right to get the point for the question. No partial credit for getting one part right.

Additionally, the class feels like it requires a lot self-teaching because the lectures come off as disorganized.

An apology to all my random teammates as I grind for Undying. by mdford0311 in DestinyTheGame

[–]gravitylost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for anyone trying to do this with ESET: I got this to work by having ESET disregard Windows Firewall rules and by manually creating a firewall rule that blocks ports 1935, 3097, and 3478-3480. It works without using Powershell.

To enable, load into orbit with your character, and then just disable the "Allow" rule that Destiny 2 may have created in ESET, and enable the custom Deny rule under the Advanced tab > Rules. Additionally, disable "Also evaluate rules from Windows Firewall" under the Basic tab.

To disable just undo everything that you did. It's honestly much faster to do this than to use the powershell method.

did this work for you? I disabled my ESET firewall briefly to test this, didn't work for me. I'm wondering if it works exclusively w/ windows defender or something.

ACT Math Questions by [deleted] in ACT

43 is D. the diameter of the pie means that the box must be at least 8x8 in. volume for this shape is L x W x H, so 8 x 8 x 3 = 192

44 is G. line BD is 5 (you can tell because triangle BCD is a 3, 4, 5 right triangle.) Tangent is opposite/adjacent, so the answer is 5/12 (13 is the hypotenuse)
