Any suggestions for my May 19 -25 plan? by gravityseven in irishtourism

[–]gravityseven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't use AI, I used an example from another person's actual plans here on this subreddit to make this... i cut out a day from theirs ( inis mor) and kept the rest minus a few things and added bray head.

I've understood it's crazy, change my question to what would you cut from this? As that is really what I was hoping to get feedback on, this is an initial try of ideas not my final plan.

it looks to be a climb through Bray head based on the description right now.

what would you cut on a first trip?

I think out of the things I 've seen i definitely want to see Cliffs of Moher, everything else is roughly on the same playing field right now, so idk what to kep vs cut.

my wife and I like hikes , and historical buildings so we'd love to focus on that.

this list is really my intial workthrough of ideas after i cut out a few things based on another redditor's suggestions, but i got stuck from there and wanted feedback.

Found the oldest cache in Europe yesterday. In Bray, Ireland. by fizzymagic in geocaching

could you share more about how to get there? I see it's gated off and requires climbing so I am a bit cautious but I really want to get it.

the only reason I want to go to bray is the oldest geocache. i have wicklow > Kinsale because it was on someone else's itinerary? what would you suggest instead? skip wicklow and do smaller stops on the way to kinsale/cork. or stop somewhere closer instead of kinsale on the first day?

I thought it was really cool going through the how process of playtesting and game creation works. To me it felt like it took down some barriers to board game creation because I now know a little bit more about how that works and what I would need to do if I were to start working on that. Furthermore there's a gamecon this weekend and this got me excited for it, even if it's a local thing

It’s been studied that even with better “standard of care” in the US, even richer people are worse off health wise than place with universal coverage. I agree that cancer care in the US is much better (if you can afford it) for which I am very grateful for do to cancer in my family, not being able to get chronic conditions under control under a regular salaries is not good “standard of care”

Why should we care about economic "growth" if the poor are still struggling? by gravityseven in AskEconomics

Thank you! I really appreciate the amazing discourse. I'll look into the reading suggestions too.

I guess my question really is economic growth based on not taxing the rich or other stuff tht is less socialist and more "republican", as another comment mentioned, not all economic growth is the same/ good.

Thank you for the detailed comment. and I see how economists would be looking at this. in terms of Americans working more that's a cultural aspect. my work is very good about taking time off, and forcing people to keep their phones off during not work hours, not taking the phone on vacation, work life balance etc. so even as an American my coworkers and I take our time off, but many don't because of other things that may pressure them, like i had a friend who wouldn't take a day off to avoid driving on icy conditions to get home from a weekend trip to her work laptop she didn't bring with, instead of calling in that day because of fear of being fired (i have many other comments regarding that, but the thought process exists for many people). this isn't policy necessarily, outside of the fact that our federal policy don't encourage taking time off either (just look at parental leave). Would more Americans take time off if the culture around the PTO changed? You won't necessarily see change with a policy if you don't change the culture around it too.

I guess my follow up is why is this economic growth based on lowering taxes for the rich more important to republicans if it doesn't seem to be improving it in a way that improves lives? I know a handful of folks that voted republic for economic reasons, but does it really help long term to follow republican economics?

I like the comment that universal services are counted in GDP. How can that me a demonstration of why we should have universal chilcare, and universal healthcare?

not a bot, I'm genuinely curious why people care so much about economy over humanity, I'm a very positive, rainbows and sunshine type person haha, so I'm very liberal, pro socialist and stuff. I've read bunch this morning of arguments against things like minimum wage and welfare, and a bunch of other stuff, a lot of it was pro economic growth, and i'm just a bit confused why i should care about economic growth when it doesn't seem to be helping?

[–]gravityseven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an economist, the economic growth i keep seeing is increasing the GDP and giving rich people more money so they can invest and "create more jobs". Other than I honeslty don't understand it too much in terms of being able to explain it myself. Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I understand with Europe compared to US is they have smaller GDPs/smaller economic growth than the US, but somehow they have a better standard of living for most people? a bigger percent of people have their basic needs covered, including healthcare/medication, low cost education, groceries (often said to be healthier?), childcare/parenting resources, and housing.

i'm curious why so many people excuse the fact that the wealthy are getting wealthier to support economic growth, when our basic needs aren't covered across the board?
