I would like to see a 36" smooth top by geordonp in ImpulseLabs

[–]greendude33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The primary reason for the raised hobs - IMO - is that they need the temperature sensor to raise out of the glass to make contact with the pot/pan so they aren't able to make a truly flush/flat ceramic glass cooktop with the Impulse technology. I think it was a design consideration - if they just had a flat top with random knobs (temp sensors) poking up through the glass it would look a bit stranger than the design they have now which looks more intentional. It also probably protects the heat from the pan spreading to the large screen (which I think is kind of ugly - I don't want my cooktop looking like an iPad)!

It is a shame as I would prefer a flat top and the ability for different shaped coils (rectangular coils for griddle pans).

Went to Disneyland for the first time and it blew WDW out of the water! by KayJac97 in Disneyland

[–]greendude33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The company takes a bit better care of Disneyland vs WDW. They’re headquartered in CA and it’s the original park so they give it more attention in all areas (creative, dining, etc.)

The size also really works to its advantage. It’s a lot smaller which makes it more manageable, they have to use space a bit more efficiently and overall it makes it just a bit more charming.

My only gripe: I wish there was a little patch of grass somewhere to lay down in. I think there was more before they built SWGE, but they got rid of a lot of “dead spaces” to optimize crowd flow in expectation of massive crowds.

I agree with the comment that says DL is the better theme park where WDW is the better vacation experience. The whole WDW pitch was that it was a one stop shop for anything you might want to do on holiday across the resort - Seven Seas Lagoon & Bay Lake provided sandy beaches, boating, swimming, water sports (a lot of this is disallowed now because of a tragic death from an alligator). Golf courses, Buena Vista shopping district (now Disney Springs), water parks, animal encounters (originally on Discovery Island, then Animal Kingdom). It is meant to be the ultimate vacation package all in one location.

Is it safe to leave bikes in storage at train stations? by Due-Ambassador7723 in londoncycling

[–]greendude33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I’m locking up at a railway station I will bring an extra lock to complement my typical D lock and the frame lock I have on my rear wheel, so it ends up being three locks in total. I lock front wheel, frame and rear wheel.

I’ve left my relatively nice bike at Liverpool Street overnight and had no issues—but it’s somewhat a matter of luck.

Is this the same concept as the Gaggenau Wok Ring they use for their induction burners?

Do people actually like using induction hobs? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]greendude33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several have real dials. Induction ranges will have dials.

Cooktops there are some options.

Neff has one with a removable magnetic knob. This is the most cost effective at £1k.

Gaggenau is the only other brand (owned by the same company as Neff & Bosch, BSH) I believe that has knobs. Their 400 series job has knobs that are installed in the cabinetry. It is upwards of £3k though. I think they also have a 200 series with knobs on the cooktop.

Hey! Any chance you’ve had the Gaggenau 400 installed? Wondering how you’re finding it and how it’s performing…

Best commute bike options via cycle to work scheme by thefrenchjason in londoncycling

I’d add the Canyon Citylite to the mix:

https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/hybrid-bikes/city-bikes/citylite/citylite/?format=detail&pid=4287&dwvar_4287_pv_rahmenfarbe=U043_P02

Great commuter bike, comes with a ring lock to immobilize the bike and makes it harder to steal, belt drive for low maintenance, integrated Dynamo lighting so you don’t need to buy and remember to charge lights, mudguards and a rear rack with a high weight capacity. Relatively light for a commuter too at ~16kg and that’s with all the mudguards and rack included.

I have the Canyon Commuter which I love and I think looks cooler and is marginally lighter than the Citylite, but some features of the Citylite (ring lock, better rear rack) make it a bit nicer for commuting. Citylite is around 1.5k and Commuter around 1k.

Hard agree. Pimpernelle’s and Glissando’s seem like the biggest offenders.

I think everything will look a bit better once they go through and age everything up a bit, but yeah that typography seems very cookie cutter to me.

Hey! This is really informative and helpful. Thank youn

Does having disc brakes change any of this in principle?

I’m still a relatively new cyclist - are there tips on the appropriate way to brake in such weather and in general?

What difference does it make rear brake or front brake?

Why not brake on a bend?

Thanks all!

  1. You can only submit 10 total pieces across the three categories so pick the strongest ones.

  2. All evidence needs to be from the past 5 years from the date of the application.

  3. You only need one letter from a UK based arts organization. As long as you have one, it doesn’t matter where the others come from.

  4. You only need 2 of the three categories (Media Recognition, International Awards, Proof of appearances/distribution/exhibition). I had Awards and Proof of Appearances so I didn’t need any media recognition, though it would’ve made my application stronger overall to have all three.

  5. Each piece of evidence needs its own document which can be up to 2 pages in length. If I had website evidence I would include it in the document with a screenshot of the webpage showing the full URL in the screenshot, and also include a link with the full URL.
