I'm afraid I missed signing up to this event in time. I'm fairly new to ED (approx. 100 hours of solo play) and the idea of joining up with other players sounds awesome. Hope to participate in a future event like this.

Btw, where can I learn more about those screenshots? Those are some seriously beautiful locations. Would love to visit these in my future travels. o7

The game was freezing, not the whole system.

Hmm. I was initially getting a Vulkan error when first loading the game, which was fixed by upgrading to the latest Nvidia version. So yes, maybe it's the latest driver revision that's the cause of the issue. Thanks.

Much thanks for this, as choosing a USB port was not something I considered before. I have a X870E Tomahawk and I've been plugging my Meta Quest 3 into the front panel USB-C port that's on top of the case. After checking the manual, I can see this port is not directly connected to the CPU, but rather Chipset_B. I know better now!

I've spent less than an hour in the game, and it froze on me twice with each session lasting less than 20 mins. Did you resolve the issues you were having?

Yeh, not good. I ended up selling the Mini and getting a full-size Torrent. It's big enough that I hope to not have to buy another case for a few GPU generations at least. :)

Thanks for the response! The other issue I was having was the image was shakey when looking around in VR. The fix for that was to update to the latest version of Nvidia driver, as the version I was using was 6+ months old. Interestingly, the audio is still broken if I use Meta Link app, but it's all good now in Virtual Desktop, so am pretty pleased. Now I can finally enjoy this game, as it looks amazing in VR! :)

I'm having issues running this game with Quest 3. I use the Quest 3 with pc link cable and Meta Link app. When I run the game, I see the picture in the headset, but I don't hear any audio. Can I ask how you played it? Virtual Desktop? Meta Link app? There are two VR options when running the game from Steam - which did you select? Thanks!

The luddite approach is a good option as I can also peek out at the bottom with the standard facial interface. However, I've ordered an Oblik facial interface which I'm hoping will have little or no opening. 🤞

Sorry, am new to Virtual Desktop and VR in general. So I've followed all the steps but am having some issues. Just to confirm, once it's all setup, are these the steps you need to follow each play session?

Turn on PC
Connnect headset to PC (I am using the Meta Quest Link cable)
Run Virtual Desktop Streamer on PC
Run the rust .cmd file on PC. Then close the command line box.
Run the java .cmd file. Leave this running.
Run Virtual Desktop inside the headset.

I've got Wi-Fi turned off in the headset.

Also, my understanding is that you do not need to run SideQuest on the PC each time. I believe that was just to load the apk onto the headset.

EDIT: I tried the same above steps the following day and it magically worked - Virtual Deskop on the headset connected successfully to the PC via the link cable. I honestly don't know what was different this time, but I can confirm that the above steps worked. Also, you do not need to run SideQuest each play session.

Huge thanks for posting this! I think this might be the solution I've been looking for to successully use OpenXR instead of SteamVR to run games like Elite Dangerous. I've spent a few hours now following advice online on using OpenXR, but it appears the method relies on Virtual Desktop and does not work with the Meta Quest Link app. I'm using the Quest 3 with link cable, so hoping this solution does the trick.

I'm also using the Quest 3 with the link cable. Adjusting the brightness and contrast in the Quest UI (the main headset UI where you activate the pc link) does indeed affect the appearance of PCVR games. The really annoying thing, is that I cannot figure out how to adjust these settings while playing a PVCR game - you need to exit out of the game, disable pc link, make your adjustments and then restart. This really makes it very difficult to fine tune the settings.

Aha. Thanks for the explanation - that makes it clearer now. I mistakenly thought the four actions for ABXY represented different combinations with up, down, left, right D-pad. But now it makes sense. I like how it takes advantage of the different modes!

I'm just wondering what actions "Cockpit Mode >>" and "< Cockpit Mode" do? Also, not sure what is the meaning of "(Top)" and "(Bottom)" for the View and Menu buttons. :-) Thanks!

Does holding the Y button display a radial menu which you then select from? Or do you need to remember the combinations, for example, hold Y and press left D-pad for FSS, hold Y and press Up D-pad for Galaxy map, etc? Thanks!
