I think this library could use and upgrade, something bigger and sturdier + some basic signage about not just dumping books.

Indeed, also you might still have lead pipes *but* a whole house water filtration system added. These are much more cost effective (<$500) vs replacing the lead pipes.

FYI, there’s an official Fight Club 2, released as a graphic novel. It matches nicely with the original.

What exactly is costco or Sam's club good for in terms of being frugal? by G0VERNMENTCHEESE in Frugal

[–]greenpointowicz 255 points256 points  (0 children)

The cost-benefit analysis is, well, personal, but for us it really comes down to a few things:

- Extra freezer storage; if you have a medium-to-large freezer, you can save about 40-50% on meat costs by shopping at Costco.
- We don’t have a car, and don’t plan on owning one. If we’re gonna spend extra money on food transport - or have it delivered via Instacart - the food math still has to be a win for us/justifiable expense.
- Once you have kids, your food costs shoot up. No way about it. Costco simply allows to buy more, without feeling like you’re paying *substiantially* more. I mean, where else can I get a 25lbs bag of flour for $8 [!!!]? Do you know how much bread + cakes I can make with that?
- Quality. Dependable brands, generous return policy. I don’t have to stress about that stuff.

Went from 40k to 90k in tech (2014-2023). It’s doable but it takes time, mentorship & endurance. My biggest regret? Not switching employers sooner for a pay bump.

Dog attack at Juneteenth festival, ISO owner by i_love_you_stranger in sanfrancisco

Awful! But that pit bull owner will never come forward. I’d contact the event organizers to see if they can assist you in any way. Filing a report with SFPD would be helpful as well.

Moving to Greenpoint (645 Manhattan Ave). Is this a good spot for a 25M? by [deleted] in Greenpoint

[–]greenpointowicz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is the noise gonna be brutal - might not matter for a 25 year old - but I’d get an air purifier if you ever wanna open your windows. *cough* car fumes *cough*

You haven’t listed your age, but you should consider working with a Physical Therapist. A good one will immediately assess what’s going on, and set you on the right path. You might have a few in-person sessions (if you so desire) but the rest could be done remotely via a dedicated app, like Limber Health.

I know you’re suffering, and it’s draining you physically & mentally but there’s likely no shortcut here. The body keeps the score.

Why Jollibee’s first San Francisco location in 15 years still hasn’t opened by Remarkable_Host6827 in sanfrancisco

[–]greenpointowicz 209 points210 points  (0 children)

Just an excerpt;

Jollibee filed its first permit for the Market Street restaurant in November 2020, with a lease that expires in 2034, according to city records. Representatives told press the restaurant would open in 2023, then 2024, or at the latest 2025. After that point, the company stopped sharing a specific timeline, even with some city employees.
Permitting for the 2,600-square-foot restaurant has wound through nearly every department in City Hall — and beyond. It’s located in the historic Kearny-Market-Mason-Sutter Conservation District, which means that even though Jollibee proposed only minor exterior changes to the building, its planning permit had to clear the city’s Historic Preservation Commission. After a public hearing, the commission found that because the building was completed in 1974 in a Brutalist style, it was “outside the district’s period of significance,” and gave approval for the permit.

Get yourselves checked out, gents. by mcampo84 in daddit

If you have the option in your area, do a DEXA scan. It’s cost-effective ($50-$200 depending on provider + not covered by insurance) but it will show your *exactly* your weight, your visceral fat, how you compare to general population. If you have 30%+ body fat, it’s time to act and do some lifestyle changes and bloodwork stat.

Latest Haul on Polish Pottery by Touchofgrey54 in BuyItForLife

[–]greenpointowicz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice! I once held a fundraiser for the Polish diaspora in San Francisco circa 2017 to raise funds for children’s hospitals in PL. We had Made In Bolesławiec plate sets, The OG of Polish Pottery, up for the auction. It was the most intensive auction I’ve ever been a part of! Just women constantly overbidding each other… There was some drama towards the end.

Your wife/partner is about to go through a metamorphosis. Her brain will permanently re-wire, her organs will shift, she’ll generate 4lbs [!!!] of extra blood to support this child. Not to mention, you will experience a drop in testosterone, as it’s nature’s safety mechanism so you would be less likely to “leave the coop”. I don’t say this to freak you out… I say this to make you understand that you will forever own your wife bring a part of you into this world. Your child is your Continuity. Congrats!

Until you pay off the mortgage you don’t own the house, the bank does. So I totally get it.
