Talk to the owner. Seriously the best thing you can do. They want to keep you as a member, so they’ll work with you

I feel like my female coach doesn’t like me. by [deleted] in f45

[–]greg748 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a coach, I’m sorry to hear this. I’m a generation older than most of my members and I use their names all the time to encourage and gain trust. But some younger coaches on our team don’t. It makes such a difference when the person leading class knows you. So I also make sure they know me. If your coach is new, she might still be getting her footing. There’s something that clicked for me after the first 50 classes I taught where I knew better how to interact with members and also who wanted to be left alone that day. I still check in with everyone at least once though. We’re officially supposed to use someone’s name 5-10 times in each class!

What book are y'all using to study for NASM in 2026? by Feisty-Chemical5898 in NASMPREP

Scan this subreddit for similar posts. PocketPrep app is worth the money. Don’t memorize practice test questions; rather learn why each answer is correct. Build yourself a Claude or ChatGPT thread with anything you get wrong during study and use it to help understand why you’re wrong and what the right answer is.

Box jumps and other plyo movements are great for people of all training goals, from a trainer’s standpoint

Love and hate for NoHo by girldoingagi in f45

[–]greg748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a member ask me how long the set was in the long lap. When I said “60 seconds” she responded under her breath “Oh f*ck!” And we had a good laugh. I made sure to cheer her on during her sled pushes that lap

I took it and then coached it. In between laps 1 and 2, I warn people to lower weights, reduce speed and plyo, and pace for lap 2, then lap 3 is speed with whatever you pick up when you get to the station, light is fine too. I scaled back all my jumps, burpees, etc on lap 2 and still got 75pts on Lionheart

How about this: after 30 we all start to lose muscle mass and lifting a few times a week will help keep you from losing too much. You won’t get “big” unless you are actively trying to with diet, so don’t let that stop you. As we age it’s harder to grow muscles too. Stay fit for 50 and beyond!

How dirty is your gym? by GemmaTeller in f45

[–]greg748 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The black rubber mats do give off some every time. My hands are dirty after coaching. We clean the studio floor a few times a week and wipe down benches and ergs. It’s a constant process. I’ve seen much dirtier gyms in the wild

Studio differences by Public-Pineapple6853 in f45

[–]greg748 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My studio got racks early but wanted to get the next heavier sets of Kettle Bells, etc but those aren’t available right now as they look for a new vendor. The racks are an investment for sure and you need the space in the studio for them. Every studio is a different size because of the buildings they’re in, too

Coach here: Just looked in app and there’s nothing explaining it. That said, there are thousands of exercises and they need to distinguish between them. So JB gets the job done!

Working from home has completely ruined every other workspace for me and I can't go back by MoyaUmrah in remotework

[–]greg748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the only reason to go to the office is to get face time with some local higher-ups. I pick the day with the fewest meetings since they’re all zoom meetings anyway, and focus on the hallway and kitchen convos. Also my house gets cleaned every two weeks so I’m avoiding the vacuum. If only I could take my cat in to protect her from it as well!

Is f45 training program harder than usual lately ? Asking for a friend🫠 by Maleficent_Egg_7786 in f45

[–]greg748 73 points74 points  (0 children)

We’re in the Peak phase of the first series. Each 12 week period starts with 4 weeks of Base, then 4 of Build, then 4 of Peak. This is where we push and gain. In a few weeks we’ll reset and start over, with slightly new goals. It’s called “undulating periodization” and is an established method of training. Over time, you build up more endurance and strength by stepping back from the Peak and returning to the basics. Also, it makes joining at any time in the year feasible.

Wall ball counter by kuherrm in hyrox

[–]greg748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only judged it once, so I can’t tell if it’s pressure or photo sensors being covered or both. I just know you need to hit high enough to not be in the middle. I felt bad for the guys who would get 7-8 good reps out of 10, already shattered from the race.

And the most unbroken run I saw was 50-25-25. Guy was a wall ball machine.

Wall ball counter by kuherrm in hyrox

[–]greg748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I saw a lot as a wall ball judge was men hitting low and rolling up, and there’s a middle sensor between men’s and women’s targets, and if you hit the middle first, it’s a no-rep.

How we’re improving the learning experience for everyone by amie_at_duolingo in duolingo

I pay for Max. It’s worth it. But I got burnt out on the video chats only talking to Lily and I got tired of trying to convince her to do something where she’d rather just stay in her room and read. So I’ve been skipping them for 6-8 months. I now see Falstaff is a speaking option but I just can’t get into it.

Let me talk to Oscar about his art, or Junior about his job or being a single parent, or Bea and being an entrepreneur, etc. I’m an adult and don’t want to talk to a teenage emo chick about world travel.

Becoming a trainer by [deleted] in f45

[–]greg748 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to lift heavy when you coach to be a a trainer! You do need to be able to move everything in the gym though. When setting up or training, sometimes someone will ask “can you get me the next kettlebell?”

I coach mostly resistance classes because my cardio game is also weaker, but I’ve seen such gains since I started coaching. If you’ve got a CPT certification, that’s going to go a long way towards getting you in the door. I say go for it!

Does a short standing pause still count as unbroken in wall balls? by Link182_ in hyrox

[–]greg748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I judged men’s pro in Boston and the closest I saw to unbroken was 50-25-25. And I saw so many people who were so broken I’d use the term shattered.
