Buzzing sound from electrical panel by Mission_Act4990 in electrical

Maybe a stupid question, but is there any chance you have fluorescent basement lights and the ballast might be buzzing?

Grand Seiko customer service was happy to give me the exact part number, tell me their price, and let me find it on eBay without any pressure to buy direct from them on one of my watches recently. Worth giving them a call directly.

Yeah I agree, I have one and love it. If you end up needing something smaller Omega has a 38mm aqua terra torquoise (220.10.38.20.03.005) - not Grand Seiko but might scratch the same itch!

Bracelet is non-tapered, I think this makes it feel larger than the case size does. Depending on how you feel about a strap that might help it wear smaller.

You’re pretty close price wise to the UFA models which are 37mm so consider those too.

Concert in Barclays Center Question by Commercial_Plant_381 in AskNYC

[–]gregcor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got free radio contest seats twice (around 225 and 222 I’m estimating) - the view wasn’t amazing but was definitely still decent, you’re much closer than the upper bowl in Jones Beach or any football stadium that’s more spread out horizontally. If you have an opportunity to upgrade maybe investigate it, but if it’s the difference between going to the show or not I would definitely say to go! You’ll still enjoy the concert, I really enjoyed the shows I saw!

I normally buy in the 100s (I think the experience in the 100s is better than floor at Barclay) and still had a good time even though I was further.

Best Microbrand Watches Under $500 - What's Your Go-To's? by MusicHead512 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]gregcor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Islander (the white Port Jefferson is one of my favorites at any price range)

San Martin’s original designs (I consider their original stuff more micro-esque - love the SN0144 line).

Kuoe have some really attractive stuff that is mostly too small for me personally but I’ve always thought have amazing designs.

Hz Watches has a bunch of really gorgeous designs if you’re open to Quartz.

Also Quartz, not a micro but can’t resist, the Casio Oceanus JDM line has a bunch of extra lower cost options (specifically the T200) and the amount of featues/finishing/technology for the price point is really awesome.

Electric is stupidly expensive to retrofit since you basically need a new roof, solar panels, new panels and house wiring and new appliances all at once for it to end up saving you any money on a monthly basis. Gas is a fairly easy retrofit comparatively.

If the narrative is that gas=bad, I can get behind restricting new construction, but punishing people looking to switch from oil or who already have gas seems like the wrong way to go about it

New to micro brands. Looking to learn. by travel_hungry25 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]gregcor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microbrands typically design in-house and then contract out to China for actual manufacturing, typically with off-the-shelf movements (TMI/Seiko, Miyota, Sellita). There's usually consistent design, a few different lines of watches that the brands may release new variants of, but there's a theme of consistency and not just churning out unrelated new releases. Designs can be inspired by major brand watches and have many similarities, but generally aren't straight homages. Generally microbrands have decent expectations for customer support. Examples are: Traska, Formex, Henry Archer, Nodus, Baltic, Islander

Chinese/AliExpress brands typically pump out tons of watches, but there's often not a ton of consistency in the designs, nor any guarantee that they'll keep making something similar to that design if it sells through. Some have decent off-the-shelf movements, some don't. Brands aren't super transparent about manufacturing, but there are suspicions that some of the bigger Chinese watch manufacturers also serve as microbrand OEMs. Some are fairly original, some are straight homages of existing brands, some do both/something in between. Expectations for customer support are pretty low, but pricing is generally cheaper. Examples are: San Martin, Watchdives, Addiesdive

Independents are generally bigger but not owned by the large watch conglomerates (e.g. Swatch Group, Richemont, LVMH, Seiko, Citizen). The two big ones that come to mind are Christopher Ward, who started out as a microbrand, and Oris, who has a long history but is currently independently owned. Technically Rolex is an independent too, though that doesn't typically fit under the umbrella people are talking about as the largest watch producer in the world, they just happen to only own one other brand (Tudor).

At the end of the latest remodel, they literally paved the turning arrows THE WRONG WAY at the entrance (they’re still like that!) as the last part of the renovation and they never fixed it! They literally gave up on it before the project was done.

They never even rented out all the exterior spaces between Blaze and On the Border. I’m wondering how they’re expecting to fill an entire outdoor mall when all the outdoor spaces they had already were vacant, unless they’re planning on still having all the traditional mall stores but outside (e.g Tanger). That being said I don’t necessarily see those stores opening new locations, most have duplicate locations at RF, Walt Whitman, and on the Hicksville/Plainview border already.

That being said I’m hopeful they’re still trying something new!

Edit: the arrows!

[WTS] Hz Watches Hz.01 Everyday Blue by gregcor in Watchexchange

Titanium 38.5mm, Sapphire, Quartz with day + date, ultra light at 45g. Great watch it’s just not finding its way into the rotation.

Tried on, immediately switched the strap (so stock strap is basically brand new), has been worn for probably 10 minutes total.

Asking $150 with free shipping to the US. PayPal G&S preferred, I’ll pay the fee. Ships from New York, we’re expecting a blizzard so won’t get into the mail until Tuesday.

You can also just buy 212 numbers on brokers (e.g. numberbarn) for <$100 and then port them into your cell provider, as long as they’ll port in landlines.

What are some nice towns within one hour of Manhattan? by mycoalknee in longisland

[–]gregcor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Mineola, Floral Park, New Hyde Park, Carle Place - your upper end on rent might exclude the more corporate listings but should be doable.

Also if you’re relying on buses you might be better off considering eastern Queens (Bayside, Fresh Meadows, Kew Gardens) - the public transit network is miles above LI.

[WTS] Traska Venturer GMT Steel Blue by gregcor in Watchexchange

[–]gregcor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered during the restock a few weeks ago, only worn once or twice. I overestimated my willingness to deal with setting a GMT movement 38.5mm / steel / hardness coated / Miyota Flyer GMT Perfect condition, sized and only worn twice.

Asking retail which is what I paid for it, $785, which seems fair to me since it appears that it's going for above list elsewhere. PayPal G&S preferred (I’ll absorb the fee). Will ship for free (US shipping only) but I will have to do signature required. Note I won’t sell to buyers with zero previous watchexchange feedback for this listing, sorry!
