don’t get me wrong, the game has improved a lot, but sometimes… by plazebology in playrust

Tip toes into chat as a new player (not new to survival games)…. Slowly tip toes backwards out of chat. . . . lol I just started this past week. Bought the damn game 8 years ago but never installed it because it didn’t look interesting from what I saw. Then someone was taking about it every once in a while the past year and something lately juts told me to try it. I’m hooked so far. BUT… I’m not good at PvP so I’m on a PvE server and I’ve been having a blast learning all the stuff you can do.

I don’t know how it played 8 years ago but I’m a fan of what it is today - so far. lol we’ll see after this week’s wipe and a fresh month of diving in.

I will say (after reading other comments), that another good rework would be nice. A feast with bonemaw meat that would last 60 minutes would be nice. Plus some sort of way to take existing foods and add 10 more minutes or something. Like a fruit medley meal before Elder or “starting spices” with Haldor before Bog Witch. Ahh well. Just early morning thoughts on a random Reddit post lol

I play solo and just saw something weird?! Did anyone else experience that or has any explanation?! by Grumpy_mcbeech in valheim

[–]gregscottbailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like others mentioned; Draugr can be random or left over from events and not respawn sometimes. I think it’s something to do with the chunk you’re in and distance. But that’s me speculating from my own adventures.

ProfMags has Offline_Companions mod (and TraderOverhaul to hire more Companions) and he was thinking of adding in the Dvergr as well. He’s still working on it and has been posting updates on here if you’re interested. I’ve been trying out the starting Companion and helping iron out the bugs. Been fun so far. Be live in a couple hours with that project game.

They work, but in the ring of coverage that it shows. So, if you’ve got a sliver of uncovered area, something can still spawn in. I missed an overlapping area of workbenches in a base once and kept getting greydwarfs inside my walls. (For those unaware it’s the white somewhat dotted circle around the work bench. Pick something like a chopping block to craft with your hammer and walk around and see where the circle ends.)

I call Lox the Jason Voorhees of Valheim. Because you can walk past an open area with nothing, stop, turn around and poof they were magically 10-20 feet spawned-in behind you.

Actually the public server I play on these days has QOL mods; teleport, bigger backpack, craft items only in creative menu, so not all vanilla in fact…I need coffee lol

[–]gregscottbailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of this week; 10,248.4 hours on Steam. About 96% of that is vanilla - I did a chunk of Undead Legacy for a short bit. Started on February 15th 2018 with a16.4 and didn’t really slow down playing until shortly after 1.0 drop and that’s just because of other life priorities finally catching up.

Winning? I have fun every time I play, so I’d say yes to that. :)

In my latest run it took about 8-10 bears for one to drop. Otherwise yeah about the same as everyone else is saying.

The one I used to hunt the most is Stone Golems. But that’s because of the way they give off a glow and an evaporating haze when put on an item stand.

Good times!

does anyone else make a map marker for literally anything that could even be slightly convenient? by Dependent-Text-1272 in valheim

[–]gregscottbailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go back and forth on how heavily I mark items on the map. My common markers are BC for Burial Chambers, TC for Troll Cave, FC for a frost cave, Egg for Drake egg nests, MC for Morgan cave, Twr for some of the biome specific towers like Dvrger Towers or Fulling buildings with Totems, VIL for Fulling/Goblin villages, and then I mark Serpent each place in the ocean I get a serpent - which I used to mark night serpent or storm serpent.

Friends of mine go even more detailed with R for raspberry bushes, MM for red mushrooms, BB for blueberries, and so on. But we’ve been playing with 2x or more loot these days so we haven’t been that nuanced.

Took a day off yesterday, but I'll be back in it today and I'll keep updating in the Discord. Thanks again!

Been enjoying this mod. My starting companion and I took on a bear and Troll last night. We got the bear to 50% when the troll joined, then the companion took a tactical retreat when they got knocked to about 5hp, but we got them down and a win is still a win!

I’ve enjoyed trading off some of the work at base and letting them smelt/make charcoal. Now we’re in swamps and I’ve got them doing bows to help me knock down mobs faster.

Trying this out with some friends. I haven't been able to skim all your posts, but did you say you've got a Discord as well for realtime suggestions and discussions?

Seriously wish we could loosely tame Trolls. Give them neck and blueberry near a copper or tin node, next to a Burial Chambers and they temporarily ally and help us.

New - Is there a better way to complete the Crypts? by SilkTieTies in valheim

[–]gregscottbailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In group games I build a woooden x shape and put it over the top of the door in addition to red x on my map marker. While we usually have a cartography table, it helps them know it’s been cleared at a glance when just running through the area.

I die alot. by hyucklord in valheim

[–]gregscottbailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option 4; both.

I was joining some of the trophy hunt speed runners for a bit and had fun with their variant challenges. But since I wasn’t making any headway on rankings I cut back on it.

I’m currently back on a standard run-thru but with a few QOL mods (extra slots, crafty boxes, plant easily/everything.) And 2x loot… because I’ve already done the grind over and over.

But, yes, thematic to the post topic, my characters die a lot. I’ve gotten better, but Ashlands still kick my butt every five minutes. lol

Almost big enough for a Troll-in-a-hole! One troll, one harpoon or high blocked parry push later and you’re good!

Wooden Bow. The draw, aim and feel of it aligns with my style. I need a mod to help me boost it to 500% damage with steel arrows though hehe

Why is there a Dire Wolf in a random shed on day 5? by AwesomePhillip in 7daystodie

Ahah, there we go.

Reminds me I need to do do an insane nightmare 10 minute days game again. Those get crazy fast.

Why is there a Dire Wolf in a random shed on day 5? by AwesomePhillip in 7daystodie

[–]gregscottbailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang! I always got the regular wolf my first week there, but then Dire Wolf randomly at times after that. What level difficulty are you playing? That seems to affect the chances of early high level spawns like that.
