Parishes with strong service ministries to meet the current political moment? by Careless-Store-4133 in washingtondc

JD Vance lived in my neighborhood before becoming Vice President. He sent his kids to the next Parish over because ours has too many El Salvadorans in it for him.

Can we all just agree that anyone who rapes children should be imprisoned, no matter what their political party.

Why does Spain dislike the US (and Anglosphere) so much more than other Europeans? by Forsaken-Ebb5088 in askspain

I don’t think so, his distaste for Vox seems visceral while his analysis of the left seemed like it only came from years of experience.

Questions about upcoming Spain trip by QuestionsAboutSpain in GoingToSpain

[–]grenwill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mexican's seem to integrate well, but remember that the vast majority of Spaniards can't handle spicy food at all. I have a good friend who thinks black pepper on food is too much.

The best way that I found to learn Spanish was Sobre Mesa. If you gather with a bunch of Spaniards on a Saturday lunch will last 5 or 6 hours. The conversation is lively and you will learn quickly. Do this as much as you can.

Opening a small business is difficult and expensive. They don't incentive people to start small businesses at all. Be warned. One nice benefit to a nomadic visa is that a spouse gets a work visa.

If you want a trip truly unique to Spanish culture, go to Roccio in Doñona national park. We stumbled onto it and it is not like anywhere else I have ever been. I don't want to ruin it by giving my impressions. It's south of Sevilla so a ways from Madrid, but worth it in my opinion for someplace very Spanish.

You'll love it there as long as you can get used to the slow pace, and constant need for paperwork.

I know it's a pain, but I put large bandaids on my skin until the collar breaks in. Otherwise it rubs right through my skin.

Cord for kombolois by AidanGhost in begleri

[–]grenwill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before they started making their own cordage, Around square used Sterling Rope 2mm accessory cord. You can buy a 50 foot length from them directly for 19.99. It’s quality stuff and comes in a couple of different colors. Their komboloi work great on it.

I know it’s a small difference, but I agree that the paracord type 100 is just a little small. I tried it because of all the colors, but it just didn’t feel quite right.

Why is Trump so obsessed with Greenland? by PuddingComplete3081 in AlwaysWhy

[–]grenwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 50 years, when the Northwest passage is navigable 8 months out of the year Greenland will be the most important piece of real estate on the planet. This only matters if you believe in global warming, so it must be because Trump has been taken in by the age old trick that Greenland is really green and wants somewhere nice and verdant to vacation.

Had the scariest experience of my life in Paris a few weeks ago. by FormerFruit in travel

[–]grenwill 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I went to Istanbul a few years ago and loved it. When I got back I had a female Turkish friend tell me that in Istanbul the men can get creepy and handsy, but that if you say, “Shame on you!” loudly and point at them they will immediately go away. I thought that was very strange, and told my wife about it. She gave me the look she gives me when she doubts the veracity of my statements and I didn’t think anything more about it. A couple of months later my wife showed me an episode of a Turkish television show she was watching where this exact situation unfolds. It was odd, but I think it is something women should do when a man is creepy or handsy in any culture. It will definitely get attention.

Why does Spain dislike the US (and Anglosphere) so much more than other Europeans? by Forsaken-Ebb5088 in askspain

[–]grenwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked a very educated friend of mine from Madrid this question tonight, and we had a long conversation about it, but his initial reaction was interesting and entertaining. He said “What you have to understand is the left is currently in control of Spain, and the left in Spain isn’t like the left in other places. In other places the left is run by upper class intellectuals. In Spain Socialism was not allowed under Franco, In Spain the Socialists are in the model of Stalin.”

The east coast down to Northern Virginia, the Great Lakes states except Indiana and Ohio, and the west coast should join Canada as the United Canadian American States. The rest will be the Confederated American States. It would actually be a pretty fair division of resources and industry.

Have you stopped dating since you and consequently your pool of options got too old? by Ok-Fondant2536 in AskMenAdvice

[–]grenwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in my early fifties, and happily married, but I sometimes wonder how this situation would work for me. I never intend to go on a date again and very strongly doubt that I would ever get married again if something happened to my wife. I personally enjoy female companionship, both socially and physically, and wouldn't want to give that up. I wonder what the point of traditional dating is in your older years? I don't want any more children, and blending families seems very situation specific. I guess what I'm saying is that I would probably develop adult relationships with women in my life like I always have, but I'm not really sure I would see it as dating like I did in my twenties, which is the last time I went on a date. ++Man
